  • Surprising quality for the money
Color: Black
I injured my left hand, making it impossible to play long scale basses anymore, so I started looking around for short scale instruments. Along with bass ukuleles and mini acoustics, I saw the Fender mini and decided to give it a shot. Since I’ve been playing Fenders all my life it seemed like a no brainer. I saw the reviews that said they needed lots of set up and adjustments, so I was prepared for that. Maybe the techs at Fender read the reviews too, because mine was dead on perfect right out of the box. Intonation, neck, string height, pickups, all perfect. And I love the satin neck instead of the sticky gloss finish that Fender sometimes uses. I agree the strings are not the best, and that is literally my only quibble. I’ve owned a lot of basses over the years, but I think I take the most satisfaction from this one, because it lets me play real bass again. And for anyone who cares, it has a really nice “cool factor”. This is a great deal all around. ... show more

  • ..this is a very cool bass guitar...
Color: Black
..I bought this Squier mini bass to learn after losing my right arm many years ago, if I ever could a play a bass guitar again, and figured out that I still can, this bass guitar is very cool and the size is just perfect for me, I love the single pickup, it came out of the box with no issues, it was pretty much set up and who ever did that also put it tune, I replaced the strings and and added a bit black to it, this bass guitar stays in tune and sounds quite good to me as I hook it up to a Ramble 25 amp, for the price I would recommend to anyone, child or adult, this is a perfect starter bass guitar, or for some that knows what they are doing, that would like to have a short scaled bass guitar... ... show more

  • A bargain for the price
Color: Black
It’s a given that when you buy a new instrument, whether it’s a Fender or a Squier, you are going to need to do a setup. After replacing the stock (junk) strings with GHS light gauge Precision Flats and doing the fine adjustments on the bridge, you end up with a very playable, good sounding short scale bass. When you add up the total cost (gig bag, strap, bass and strings) you end up with a really nice package for under $250, and that’s my idea of a bargain! I’ve been playing mostly Fender electric basses for 67 years, so I know a little about them. ... show more

  • This thing is just too much fun!
Color: Black
Great little Short Scale bass, electronics are "affinity squire" level, and thankfully not a "Glarry China" level. Indonesian made- the fret fit/finish was pretty brutal but took little time to file them down. Intonation - They were all +sharp at the 12th and strings needed to be adjusted to radius. Fret Buzz- This is going to be a problem for you only if you don't know who to do a basic setup, at least in my experience with base model squires. The neck was straight and had no hump/sag/twist. Body- Fit and Finish were really great for this Squire, no blemishes or defects. Hardware- These tuners are pretty cool, they are smaller than typical clover style tuners and really look good on this scaled down Precision Bass. Shipping- Got to me within 3 days, was packed good in box, no complaints. ... show more

  • Just Get It
Color: Black
I was skeptical but I clicked the buy button and it came today. I cant believe how good it sounds . I've been playing since the 60's. Don't waste time looking around just get it . Yes the body is a little bit smaller than my Tele but the short neck is wonderful. Yes I'll file the fret edges and I adjusted the truss rod a very small amount. No buzzing and plays so easy. I was long over do for this. You can always send it back if you don't like it but for 200.00 $ I think you'll be keeping it. ... show more

  • I love this Bass
Color: Black
It is adorable, very comfy to hold, light, and it doesn't take too much space so it's portable. As someone who's learning how to play, it feels very good quality. The only thing I might change is the string's. I don't know how to explain it but sometimes it sound like if you were hitting a can or a mental surface. Like I said I'm a noob but I bet the sound could be much better. Overall I love it and it is a great way to start in my opinion. ... show more

  • They need some adjustment, but it's a perfect size for younger people.
Color: Black
Well, I got mine! It was an "open box" one so I got it slightly cheaper. I have to assume that the previous buyer didn't like the fact that every tuner key was loose. Not hard to tighten but they are the "cheap" type. They're good now! I've been using a U-Bass lately, recorded a CD with one, but Fender makes good stuff and the size is perfect. Like I said, be prepared to set the whole guitar up and dress the frets a bit. I haven't played it yet but I love it! I added a photo of my completed bass. Sounds great! ... show more

  • Sounds Better Than You'd Expect But...
Color: Black
For such an inexpensive bass, this thing sounds pretty darn good. Like any bass you get in the mail, it will need to be set up, so expect to fiddle with with string height and intonation, and maybe the truss rod. Also, go into it knowing what a super short-scale, reduced-body bass entails: this thing is truly tiny! I regularly play short-scale basses, so I'm not only used to them, but love them. This mini P Bass, though, is actually quite cramped, and because the body is too small and light (substantially smaller than a typical solidbody electric guitar), it tends to neck dive. You'll want to play it with a strap to give your fretting hand a rest. Fit and finish are mostly good, with one exception: the frets have some slightly sharp edges. Be careful. Short-scale basses have an undeserved reputation as being best suited for kids or small-statured people. Yes, they can be useful for those groups, but they can be perfect for larger adults, too, who prefer the tone or ergonomics over 34" scale basses. It's a shame Squier didn't decide to make this a 30" with just a slightly reduced body, which would shrink the standard P Bass down just enough to make it lighter and more comfortable without hurting the ergonomics. If you want a more playable short scale bass at a budget price point, you'd be better served with a Gretsch, Ibanez, Guild, etc. that will get you good tones and better ergonomics and playability. ... show more
