  • Easy
Model: $5 - 100MB - 100 Talk & 100 Text
Easy to start up.

  • AVOID SPEEDTALK! THEY WANT TOO MUCH PERSONAL INFO!
Model: $5 - 100MB - 100 Talk & 100 Text
This card is very difficult to activate online. I don't know about calling it in but going through the activation process online was an arduous, glitchy task and the SpeedTalk Store website was not very clear, with additional and often convoluted instructions popping up over top of the forms you are attempting to fill out. No exaggeration, it took me FIVE ATTEMPTS before all my information got processed. If it wasn't one thing it was another, including having to have a PIN password sent to my email 3x, and having to input the amazon transation number as proof(??) I was the purchaser! WHY? The process froze several times and when I backed up a screen to fix my input, all the previous information disappeared and I had to input every single field all over again. On top of that they want your life story and practically a DNA sample all just to start up a 1 month no contract quickie account. If you're not paying close attention, when you finally click the final OK, there's a box checked that says yes you want to autopay each month. I was so flustered by the time I got to that point (over an hour of wrestling with what should have been a QUICK, SIMPLE FORM) I hit OK before I realized it. I will probably use this phone for more than a month, but I really despise autopay and now I have to figure out how to turn it off. This is just for a secondary, temporary back-up phone for travel and I don't plan on using it very long. And now I have the added hassle of figuring out how to terminate autopay instead of just not paying for it anymore when I'm done with it. The random phone number that it gave me came with a lot of "baggage." First of all it still has the previous owner's identity attached to it, and I'm getting texts and calls on it from the moment I got it for this other person. Secondly it must already be on a ton of spam lists because I get texts and calls all day long for salons, car warranties, credit card debt relief, etc. which is ANNOYING AF. No exaggeration, I'm blacklisting 5-6 numbers a day. I have gotten T-Mobile no-contract new phone activation & service sim cards for $5-$10 before from other companies, and I never had this much spam garbage with the "new" number before. Nor have I ever gotten a "new" number with the previous user's personal information still attached to it. I'm sure the previous user would love to know that I know their full name and street address. This company is super shady and now they have all my personal info and credit card information, my email, and my amazon purchase info, and they have burdened me with a phone number that is basically a vehicle to incessantly advertise a ton of junk. Nor is this a "fresh" number. In fact I got this cheap phone and new number specifically to communicate ONLY with my husband, and yet it's ringing constantly throughout the day but it's not him. This company is NOT WORTH IT. You're paying $5 to be on a spam list and give them all your personal info. I never had to activate a phone card with a PIN through my email or the transaction number from amazon before! The T-Mobile service is fine, but AVOID SPEEDTALK and get it through another company! Oh yes I forgot to mention that this company offers you one month free if you give them a 5 star review on amazon, take a screenshot of it and send it to them. LOL!! I wonder why they have to try to BUY good reviews?! I don't need your $5, SPEEDTALK. Here's your 1 star review, though. It's actually zero stars if I could rate it that low. ... show more

  • Perfect Budget Option For a Kid's Phone
Model: $5 - 100MB - 100 Talk & 100 Text
This is the second SpeedTalk SIM card we have ordered. We have been very happy with both! -I love, love, love that the card comes with an adjustable SIM card for size. We have some very old phones that take the old fashioned giant SIMS and some new phones that use micros and nanos. These chips will fit them all! I will say, the fit is much better if you choose the correct size the first time, but we have switched the cards between sizes successfully (I wouldn't recommend it). -The service gets comparable coverage and signal to my own TMobile phone. My son happily texts his friends and I can reach him whenever I need to. -The price can't be beat. We pay $5 per month to have cell phone service for my son's phone that is used only in emergencies and for communication when we are apart. -The only times we have had problems with service had to do with the device *not* the SIM card or SpeedTalk service. It took me a long, long time to figure this out. We tried several brands of GPS phone tracking watches for our sons in order to be able to communicate with them and see their location on overnights, camping trips, etc but we didn't want them to have internet and couldn't afford an expensive watch. We have yet to find a satisfactory GPS tracking phone that does not lose signal/offer unreliable connection. *This SIM and Cell service works perfectly when we changed the SIM from the poorly made GPS watches into a different device. The phone/device calls and text with no problems whatsoever. -The service is very reliable. We set up an overage account so that if my son spends his minutes, he won't be without service in case of an emergency, but they have many cheap options for plans from $5, $9, $15 and up. We chose to just pay for overages since he doesn't have access to his phone unless we are apart. -At times, it takes it just a few seconds to connect when placing a phone call, but not long -literally seconds. At times, my TMobile signal is poor at home, so this service is at least as reliable. I have yet to miss a call or text through SpeedTalk, where I do get dopped calls with my regular TMobile service and messages either are dropped or come through weeks later on my prepaid TMobile service. - I was very happy to see that despite the low price, SpeedTalk is supporting 2G - 4G. Our previous devices were 2G, but we are moving to 4G due to the phase-out. ... show more

  • Some things that sound too good to be true are just that
Model: $5 - 100MB - 100 Talk & 100 Text
This is NOT the only deal where you buy a SIM and get the same amount in credit once you activate. And some other companies offer even better deals. But that is not a good way to pick a cellular service. Still, I decided to give them a try and my SIM could not be activated. I got an error message that said they would not activate my SIM because I already had several activations using the same credit card. That was not true at all. I have never used SpeedTalk and moreover, I rely on Google Voice and so I don't have ANY activated SIMS. The last time I activated a SIM was with another provider years ago. So, I emailed SpeedTalk who told me that I had several activations and they would therefore I would need to send them -- via unsecure email -- my credit card Information. When I responded that my card was fine and this was the 1st time I ever tried to activate any SIM/number with them, SpeedTalk was quite curt and told me either email credit card info or I could deal with Amazon but that they would quite simply do nothing. That was their response. On the positive side, I got three emails from them in less than 15 minutes. But they were SO unhelpful (i.e., they explicitly refused to do anything or to engage or to explain) and so curt (not precisely rude, just short emails saying, in sum and substance "sucks to be you - not my problem") that even if they had solved the activation issue, I would not ever use SpeedTalk. There are too many other options out there. Heck, most of them you can even buy here on Amazon - which I did not even know until now - I thought if I want to try USMobile or Mint or whoever, I need to contact those companies for a SIM, or to see if I can activate a phone via eSim but most if not all of them sell their SIMS on Amazon seemingly all with deals like free minutes etc. So, I will try someone else and while I am sure some people will be able to use SpeedTalk right away, knowing that they have without a doubt the worst customer service imaginable, why would you? ... show more

  • Yes it's the real deal. And yes it's glitchy. I agree with both the positive and negative reviews
Model: $5 - 100MB - 100 Talk & 100 Text
This product has roughly an equal number of positive and negative reviews. After reading through many of the complaints -- and compliments -- I can say, I agree with both sides. After getting it set up, it worked like a charm. The app (or your account page on their web site) tells you clearly and up-to-the-minute how much you used. Reception was decent, no complaints about the service (in my area, at least). There's no way this is as good as a major network like TMobile, but I didn't have any issues. The initial $5 does indeed come with data, texts, AND minutes. On some of these services, the up front cost only buys you the SIM card, then buy your minutes later. But on this, the $5 up front buys you the card AND the minutes (100 Talk, 100 Text, AND 100 MB Data). Just realize 100 MB data is only about 8 minutes of streaming (Netflix, Youtube, etc), so your data gets eaten up fast. But if you watch your minutes closely, yes, you absolutely can have a fully functional phone plan for just $5 per month ($60 per year). And the SIM works in new phones or a wide variety of old phones, which you can probably find for free if you don't have one. I installed on an old 3G phone and also on a 4G phone, it worked fine on both, no problems at all with phone compatibility. But realize the 3G towers are quickly being retired, so 4G or newer is best. Now the bad. First, the instructions weren't great. The kit came with two sets of instructions that seemed to contradict each other. And there was a step that I kept missing because the confirm button didn't fit on the app screen - they need to resize their buttons, I was waiting forever and didn't know what I was missing. Then I repeated the process on the computer via their web site and saw the issue. So I recommend doing the registration on a computer if possible. Next, you can't use the phone right away. It took several hours for the SIM card to activate. The app and/or web site are terrific on giving you up-to-date info on your usage. But it's clunky. They asked for a lot of information (I gave them fake information - fake name, fake address, it was fine). You DO need to enter a payment method before you can turn on service. I hate this, and they were picky about what kinds of payments they accept. I had to use a real credit card, it wouldn't take my green dot. So this is not as anonymous as a burner phone - it would take some work if you're wanting complete anonymity. Also the default setting is to reload the card when you use up your $5, and also to renew every month. You have access to some settings via the web site or the app, such as notifications when you're reaching your limits, and turning off the auto-reload. But if you want to cancel at the end of the month, you have to fill out a customer support ticket or else it will auto-renew. They are good about this, they canceled almost immediately. Just don't wait till the last minute if you're wanting to cancel. Don't buy the SIM card and stick it in a drawer in case of emergencies. The SIM cards come with an expiration date - mine needed to be activated within 7 months. Once it's activated you can use it indefinitely. So it's clunky and took longer to set up than any other phone I've ever used. But there's a learning curve, after the first time it gets easier. After I got the hang of it, I've come back and used it several times. It works great as a temporary emergency phone, such as something to take on vacation, or something to give to the kids for summer camp. Or, if you don't plan on using the phone very much, are looking for the cheapest phone plan possible, or primarily use wi-fi, then this is the probably the cheapest option available. You just have to be diligent about making sure you're connected to wifi, and monitor your usage. But yes it is definitely possible to stay under the 100 minutes etc and have a fully functional phone for just $5 per month. ... show more
