  • Great replacement for MB W212 M157 air intake tubes
If you have a W212 E class with a M157 engine, you've no doubt stared in disbelief that MB has put flimsy fabric tubes under the hood, now torn in a bunch of places thanks to the simple act of trying to get your oil filter out. Well, I'm happy to say that this plastic tube and couplers are pretty much a prefect fit to the OEM plastic connector pieces and a great replacement. Not only is this a fraction of the price of an OEM replacement that will probably rip in another couple years or so, it looks 1000x better. As others have noted, due to the terrible packaging, one of the couplers will arrive squashed and deformed. No worries, either pop it in a 300 degree oven for a few minutes, or run your heat gun over it for a bit and it will not only pop back to a circular shape, but also become pliable enough to slide over the OEM plastic coupler pieces. As it cools, it'll mold nicely to the plastic. It was such a tight fit that I didn't even bother gluing it down or clamping it. I think I spent more time and effort tearing out the old fabric tube off of the OEM connectors than actually molding and putting the new coupler and tubes on it. You'll need one set for each side, although I only used about half of the length of tubing. I've seen pictures of what others have done and it looks great, but I hesitated for a while before buying this, wondering if I could replicate similar results since I don't have bodywork experience or tuning experience or anything of that caliber. But really, all you need is an oven (or heat gun), some needle nose pliers to help remove the old fabric tubing pieces off of the plastic couplers, and scissors and in about 30 minutes, you'll have replaced your torn fabric tubes with these plastic parts that look factory. One big worry was how it would perform in a hot engine bay... wondering if the plastic duct would melt, deform, come apart, or somehow jam up the air intake. I've now had this in my car for about 6 months with combination of boring daily commutes and the occasional spirited driving, and haven't noticed any performance deterioration, even under wide open throttle with that tubocharged V8 sucking in air like crazy. Car performs and drives like before. Of course, not surprisingly, haven't noticed any performance improvement either. ... show more

  • Great for Chevy HHR
Excellent replacement for the "wooly worm" air duct on a 2006 Chevy HHR. My HHR air duct had basically shredded and the OEM replacement is quite expensive for such a simple part, so I was out looking for alternatives when I saw this simple air duct at a reasonable price. I ordered it, had it installed in minutes and then drove 4 hours the next day through mountains with the A/C on and this duct held up nicely. It stays in place and shows no sign of any heat damage. If you look at the picture, you can clearly see one of the end caps. There are two with the unit, one was shipped scrunched inside the tube, but it straightened out just fine. ... show more

  • Excellent for a Gotts mod on my '06 F150
I used this for a Gotts Mod on my '06 F150 5.4l. The original idea came from the f150online forum [...]. I found Amazon shipped the Spectre 8741 to my location and had the best price. It worked out excellent. My only issue was that it shipped with a second rubber ring folded and stored inside the tube when packaged. The fold/kink in the rubber made it difficult to attach over the plastic flex end of the tube. I had to warm it up in water and use a bit of dish detergent to get it to attach. The flexible plastic is quite strong. I was impressed when I had to shorten the tube that the plastic could be cut with a razor knife, but it was reinforced with a wire support that had to be cut with a wire side cutters. This wire adds strength and support to hold the 3" shape. Recommended. ... show more

  • 04 Civic LX Sedan - replaced noise reduction box
I removed the noise reducing box in my 04 Civic LX sedan and just ran this hose directly from the original intake point to the air box (where the air filter is). I also used the Spectre Performance 8771 3-3/2.5" Intake Coupler at the connection by the original factory intake point near the battery and head lamp. I also had to switch the factory rubber boots on either side of the factory noise reduction box with each other to get this to work. This Spectre Air Duct fits perfectly to the outside of the existing factory rubber boots/duct that live on either end of the noise reduction box. This is the MacGyver version of a cold air intake for the Civic. Seems to work just fine. ... show more

  • Don't expect to work without modification and additional parts
It will work well for my intake. The tube though is not really sturdy. And they should include a 3" tube as a joiner to attach to cone filter. You can't use the end to attach it. It will leak and isn't sturdy enough to clamp and outside diameter is too big for that. Another big issue is that they shove the rubber boots inside the tube in the package. This makes them malformed. I had to reshape them with a metal 3" tube and a heat gun. And they are going to leak unless I glue the ends on tube with high temp silicone or maybe E6000. Of course there are no instructions to explain any of this. So I bet a ton of people that bought this just have leaky intakes. So, just know you need to purchase glue, heat gun or hair dryer, and a little bit of innovation skill to actually make this work. If they were open about all this, I would give 5 stars. But since they sell you the product like this to the general public I'm only giving it 3 stars. ... show more

  • Spectre Performance 8741 Black 3" Air Duct Hose, Perfect for Cold Air Intake
Last winter I had an ASE shop rebuild my 2.3 Lt. engine for my 1986 Ranger- 3 months later every ring was broke, I got into it myself, ported and polished the intake and head added a few nice extras. With 200 lbs cranking pressure I wanted the little beast to "Breathe!" This section of High Quality Duct gives the Helix Mixer Throttle plate and High Performance Header the cold air intake ,and it does the job very well, and aids in my 30+ Mpg and 120 HP(11 to 1 CR)- , all the needed parts are clamps . I live 90 miles from town and it's a joy to drive this little beast to town for my once a month shopping- Thanks Again Amazon for the Best parts for any of my trucks and other ranch equipment ... show more
