  • This is a strong shovel
This is a very strong shovel. It will easily dig into the dirt. I am almost certain that this shovel will not break. It is worth a few extra bucks for something which will last.

  • Sturdy Shovel Perfect for garden use.
From digging 4 inch holes for plants to digging a trench to drain water from a low spot, this shovel has worked beautifully in my hard clay soil.

  • A nice spade for all your yard work
I do a lot of work in my yard. Unfortunately, my yard is a hard clay once you dig down a few inches. It is hard to dig in the hard clay with a regular shovel. Although it is described as a "spade shovel" in the Amazon product description, I think it could be better described as a spade. A shovel is good for moving dirt or digging shallow holes. A spade is better suited for cutting through compacted soil or creating precise holes (because the size of the blade is typically narrower than you get on a shovel). When I saw the Nohovu spade shovel I decided to give it a try. PIC1 (I have labeled each picture in the upper right corner because they never appear in the order I add them to the review) shows the spade. The Amazon product description says that the metal portion is made out of high carbon steel. High carbon steel has the ability to withstand greater pressure without bending or deforming which is a good quality for a spade. It also states that the metal has a rust-resistant coating. The handle is made out of solid wood. Total weight is 4 pounds and it is about 45 inches total length. The spade seemed to be well made. PIC2 is a close-up showing that there is a long metal neck that the wooden handle is inserted into. PIC3 shows two rivets that keep the handle and metal blade attached. PIC4 is a close-up of the handle. It is early spring here but I have already put this spade to work. I have some 8 ft poles that I bury about 1.5 to 2 ft deep. Digging the hole for these poles is made more difficult because of the clay in my yard. I created a square hole with each side being approximately the width of the spade (about 6.3 inches). I found that the metal made cutting into the clay quite easy by stepping on the wide footrest on top of the metal blade and using my body weight to push down. Using the Nohovu spade the digging process was much easier than with any other tool I currently have at my disposal. If you are looking for a nice "spade shovel" you should consider the Nohovu spade shovel. It will get the job done (a lot easier)! ... show more

  • Happy Gardening
I purchased a different shovel of this same design many years ago from a major name brand (rhymes with "whiskers"). That one came with an all-metal handle, as opposed to the wooden handle on this shovel. Honestly, it's a toss-up for me. I think that, if properly cared for, the wooden handle will last a really long time and comes with the added bonus of being lightweight compared to metal. That being said, I don't do enough digging nowadays to really notice much of a difference. This is a beautifully made shovel and it works well for tasks like transplanting. If I was digging a large hole, I would probably opt for a wider spade, but this type is great for precision work. Seems to be a solid product. No complaints here. ... show more

  • Sturdy, Quality Steel Blade, Comfortable Handle
This is a great spade. I’ve used it to dig holes for plants/shrubbery. The sharp blade slices through the most stubborn dry dirt, especially ground that has thick grass clumps that I’ve claimed for gardening. The spade shovel is heavy enough to be sturdy, but not too heavy to be uncomfortable when using. ... show more

  • Call a spade a spade
There is not a ton to say about this spade. It's a spade and it works just a spade should. I've used it to edge my flower beds and plant some new flowers. The handle felt comfortable in my hand when using it. The spade didn't have any damage after the first few uses so it seems sturdy enough for my home use. The spade worked well and felt sturdy. ... show more

  • Solis spade shovel for digging trenches around the home or to dig out pole holes.
This is a solid made spade shovel. It is the perfect length for me. The handle is large and comfortable to grip. The edges on the shovel are sharp and cuts through the dirt. I will be using this to dig a trench around my house to do a termite treatment drench. I will also use this to dig out pole holes for a fence. Shovel should last a lifetime under normal use conditions. This is a good addition to my yard tools. ... show more

  • Stronger than expected
This spade shovel is perfect for my gardening needs. I usually buy tools with fiberglass handles, and while this one is wooden, it is quite strong. The steel spade part comes up higher than normal - which makes the wood area less. I was rather surprised. Good tool. Very useful. Good quality. Lightweight but strong. Good price. ... show more
