Works just as advertised.

Evans brand of acoustic volume control is great, for a lack of a better term. They are easy on, easy off, providing excellent sound reduction while still maintaining integrity in the feel of playing. Is it exactly like hitting a drum head? It's not exact but it's close enough. I live in a townhouse with thin walls. I wouldn't be able to practice without these. The bass drum pad still feels good and is probably the loudest piece, still giving a good thud. The cymbals sound a little trash-canny with the mutes but its more about the feel than the sound. They provide a range of sizes that accommodate most shells, rides, and hats. Cymbal pads are one size, which is ok unless you want to dampen a splash or something. I have a 8" and 10" splash and mini-china. The material is durable but easy enough to cut with scissors to resize for small cymbals. I would recommend the entire Sound Off line to any drummer, especially those who live in conditions that prevents them from playing to their fullest potential and power: row homes, apartments, quiet neighborhoods, annoyed neighbors, etc. ... show more

Great aid for silencing loud cymbals, retaining great feeling while playing.

Living in a pretty cramped neighborhood, I knew I couldn't go blasting on my kit without any assistance from some silencing-aid. I have two of the rubber pads that grip to the hats and ride, also of the SoundOff line, which worked pretty well. I was skeptical of these specifically as they were thicker and I did anticipate they would alter the feeling of playing, but alas I purchased two for my crashes... And they work quite well! The have a little bounce both for the stick and from the cymbal, so the decay is pretty quick after hitting the cymbal. Plus, easy on, easy off. I do really like these, but they aren't the perfect solution to keeping your cymbals from cutting through the fun and wonder of your neighbors as they grill or fight! ... show more

Well, that's one way to quiet those pesky cymbals down.

They work. Plain and simple. We have 14" hi hats and these hang over quite a bit. That's not the mute's fault. Maybe I missed a hi hat version. Now, muting aside, they make the cymbals sound horrible, but sounding good isn't what people like us have in mind when we're buying these, am i right? A little more peace of mind is found when we buy these and they do exactly as the description claims. Is it quite 80%? There's really no way to measure it, but it's good enough for me to rate both these and the drum mutes at 5 stars, which is something I don't do a ton of. For the record, the drum mutes are awesome. Just make sure you buy the right ones for your kit. There's a different between the standard and the fusion sets. ... show more

Cheap and effective

Locks in place easily, mutes the cymbal very well with direct strikes, mutes some of the resonance from other external stimulation like speakers etc. Works well and was cheap.

Mute for 16"-18" crash cymbal

This mute is okay. It's fine for light hits but I couldn't really get it to mute crashes well until I taped it down around the bell with gaffer tape. the section that contacts the bell is flat and didn't make good contact with cymbal. If you hit very hard you will probably want to tape down the part that covers the bow as well. This probably isn't a problem until you tape it down but for me it has a tendency to rotate out of place, but it does get the job done. ... show more
