As a few of the other reviewers, I too had an issue with my queen size mattress. In my case, the secondary pump was making a loud squealing sound, despite the primary pump working just fine and the bed holding air decently well. I knew from my previous purchase that the firmness pump should be nearly silent so I decided to call customer service at the company directly. I spoke to a very pleasant woman named Casey who was able to help me out. I purchased the bed for a road trip and going through the normal Amazon return process would not work. She was very understanding and made an exception to their normal policy to get me squared away. I appreciate the great customer support and understanding, while also looking forward to a great air mattress. My previous experience with this model of mattress allows me to comment on some of the features. The secondary pump, which maintains the level of firmness should not run 24/7, and it should be nearly silent. Perhaps a low rumble when sleeping. I found it to be rather soothing, but if someone was an extremely light sleeper they might need a disable this feature. That being said it has a really good job keeping the mattress pressure exactly where you want it. Overall the mattress is very comfortable and if you want that firm support you can definitely get it to the point where it's uncomfortably firm. Luckily it just takes a twist to the dial and you can bring it down to whatever you enjoy. I must admit that the mattress is quite expensive, but at the same time it's well made, and the customer service is rock solid. The latter has a lot of intrinsic value right off the bat.     • Best Air Mattress ever, and Best customer service ever

I've had many air mattresses through the years, and none even come close to this one. The ease, sure, many are this easy. You switch it on. Done. But, the silent motor that runs in the background? With three different comfort settings. The only uncomfortable night I've spent on this mattress was when I had the silent pump set to firm, expecting the mattress to deflate in the night like all the others I've tried, and it was too firm for me. Set it to medium, it was perfect. It's far and away the best air mattress ever. And, if for some bizarre reason that something goes wrong with it, the customer service is exceptional. And I do mean exceptional. One time I called off hours, didn't bother leaving a message, figured I'd call later, forgot to do it, and they called me back anyway. We've bought several air mattresses over the years and they all had similar problems of leakage, where you awaken in the morning in a plastic pit, and too soft sides where when you put your feet on the floor you feel like you are sitting in a bucket. With this one, you have neither of those issues. It is self-inflating and the compressor cuts itself off when it reaches the setting you select. There is a secondary pump that kicks on and off during the night to keep it at the level of comfort you choose. I had a small problem so I called customer service and 1) a person answered the phone and 2) they actually took care of the issue. I would recommend this air mattress to anyone that needs one. I needed a bed for temporary use in a short term rental and this airbed was more comfortable than the actual mattress. It would always be ready for me with the auto pump feature to keep it at my desired firmness. Plus, when the pump started to fail, the company insisted on sendibg me a new bed. Follow-up to May update: I notified SoundAsleep about the leaky seal above the pump and they replied the same day, even though it was the weekend. The company sent out a new air mattress without us having to do anything on our end. We received it the following week. I appreciate their customer service and quick response. We find the air mattress to be comfortable with a 2" foam topper on top of it. May 2019 Update: Bought the air mattress less then a year ago (8 months ago) and sleep on it occasionally when visiting family (Maybe 8 times). Today the seal on top of the automatic pump started leaking steadily. Very inconvenient since we are using it. Paid $199.95 - should not fail so quickly! How do I repair it?? September 2018 We’ve only had the air mattress for a couple of weeks and have slept on it one of the weeks while visiting family, but it does seem to be sturdy and durable. However, sleeping on it is not like sleeping on a regular mattress. Even when the mattress is filled on the soft setting, the top surface feels hard and does not contour to your body (side sleepers). Before we sleep on it again, we will try a foam cushion on top and a mattress cover (definitely needs a mattress cover since a sheet alone is not enough to sheild from the plastic feel underneath). The matress is convenient, fills and deflates quick enough and the motor that keeps the mattress refilled through the night is very quiet. This air mattress is not a bad product, it’s just not more comfortable than other air mattresses (we’d had several) and I believe needs some modifications to make for a comfortable sleep (listed above). ... show more

I had another air mattress with a secondary pump that reinflates the mattress when it loses air. Reinflation is pretty much silent, unlike the one I had before. I’ve been sleeping on this for months and am very happy with it. There are adjustments for firmness. I strongly suggest a mattress cover, as the surface isn’t the most comfortable, but even with the height you can use extra-deep sheets of the same size as the mattress.
