  • A fantastic one piece soundbar. Great value!!!
The Sony S100F 2.0ch Soundbar is perfect for smaller rooms. As expected from Sony: very attractive, great sound, good stereo separation, clear voice dialogue and decent base. It may not be powerful enough for a large room but I use it in a 9 X 12 den and it is more than adequate. The installation via optical cable is simple and pairing with a Verizon remote is easy. The included remote also works well for advanced controls. It's a steal at under $100. Bottom line: I highly recommend this product for small to medium size rooms. ... show more

  • Decent sound for a budget soundbar
This is a good soundbar to have for relatively cheap. I want to make it clear that the bass is not strong at all. But for my needs, I'm satisfied with both the movies and music feedback I get as well as watching news or other programming. I got rid of my full-blown Sony home theater and got this instead for a smaller space. It does the job fine and I don't have to worry about potentially disturbing neighbors. ... show more

  • Great quality, but not such a great user experience
This is a classic Sony product, in that the product itself is high quality, but the user experience, documentation, and compatibility is pretty bad. Basically, this will work great for: - most TVs with an optical port or HDMI ARC - for MUSIC (not video) over Bluetooth - a gaming PC setup if your PC has an optical port It will not work for: - anything requiring AUX - connecting to a gaming PC over USB (unresponsive) or HDMI (ARC only) or obviously AUX (no AUX connector) - Bluetooth audio for watching videos or taking video calls (due to audio lag) I've connected this to a tv with HDMI ARC and a PC using Optical, and the sound quality is great. The Bluetooth works and produces great music quality, but the Bluetooth is completely non-usable for video output (Netflix, Zoom calls, etc) because Sony included an older standard of Bluetooth on this soundbar (4.4). Again, it's fine for music, but for watching video, your audio will lag about a half-second behind for anything that transmits Bluetooth 5.0, such as most Apple products, most laptops, tablets, etc. So the audio on Bluetooth won't match peoples' lip movements in movies and tv or video calls. That said, Bluetooth connection from smartphones, laptops, etc is quick and easy and connecting from one devices takes over connection from an existing device (it accepts bluetooth from any device without any kind of code or manual pairing step), which is as it should be and feels seamless and makes it great for putting on music in your living room with friends over. Don't buy this soundbar if you're planning to *wirelessly* output a video's sound from a streaming box like Apple TV or any brand of smart TV. There's no 3.5mm/AUX port. This is a bad design choice, but it is as advertised. 3.5mm/AUX is a ubiquitous standard and lets this device be immediately compatible with many more devices than just a TV, which is especially important since they also use an older standard of Bluetooth. There are good technical arguments for why 3.5mm/AUX is "worse" (lower signal quality) than, say, optical or HDMI, but leaving off a 3.5mm port sacrifices a lot of compatibility. That said, they don't claim that this has an AUX port, so if you're reading this review, you probably already know there's no AUX connection. There is a USB port, but the instructions that come with this soundbar don't even acknowledge that there's a USB port and doesn't provide instructions on how to use it. Certainly, 99% of devices will not actually connect to this soundbar and play sound using USB. I hear a rumor that these USB ports are for flash drives that contain MP3 files, but who on earth stores and listens to music that way? I am honestly asking. The HDMI is *only* ARC. It's worth taking 5 minutes to Google HDMI ARC if you aren't already familiar with what it is. Basically you can only connect to this soundbar via HDMI through a port explicitly labeled "HDMI ARC." Connecting to your device via a regular HDMI port most likely won't do anything. This is a standard only made for TVs, so again no compatibility with anything that's not precisely a TV. Finally, there is "optical" output. It's the small, square-ish thing, often with a little plastic covering. If you have any desire to use this with a gaming PC, this is what you'll use, since most gaming motherboards have an "optical" sound output natively (essentially the same thing as the S/PDIF). This is also a good option for connecting to a TV, since a lot of TVs that lack HDMI ARC do have an optical output. ... show more

  • Only when it works.
I am giving this sound bar 5 stars, but with reservations. It is compact and not overly large. It fits on my mantle under the mounted tv. This is the second sound bar sent to me. The first one only worked a few days before I had to call Sony and troubleshoot it to find out it was defective. The price was good, however I had to pay UPS to return it to Amazon. I was told I would recoup the loss but as of yesterday that credit had not shown up in my account. First: pros- sleek, lightweight, good sound, good pricing, several ways to connect, seamless hookup with remotes, TVs, streaming devices, good sound. - Cons: I turn my tv off at night and then when I want to watch again, the sound bar won’t work. I am forever having to unplug the bar, tv, and fire stick to have any audio. This does not make sense. There is notations of the bar going into mute when you turn the device off, and it depending on what configuration you start up again, ie: tv first, sound bar first, streaming device, etc., it can go into mute mode. This is ridiculous. You want, or at least I do, one remote for everything so you don’t have to keep up with remotes for each device. I have a Sharp, interactive smart tv, and use a fire stick for my “cable”. I have no choice as I use the “gig” internet and that provider for my cable channels. My provider encourages you to use your own devices to receive the channels they offer so for us it’s the fire stick for cable and streaming. This should not be the problem with the bar not connecting and/or going into mute mode because of you turning your tv on. Since the description of this sound bar uses the seamless hookup as one of the advantages of purchasing this product, the manufacturer should design it to come on and work, regardless of what sequence your remote turns all the devices on. Amazon replaced the first unit (had it about two weeks, one using it, one trying to figure out what was wrong). Sony was good at troubleshooting but was no help at replacing the unit, even with me supplying the invoice, etc. After the troubleshooting, and me providing the invoice by email, I never heard from Sony again, so any compliment I give for customer service is to Amazon, which had me a new one ASAP. I might note that this didn’t start happening until this week. We have had the replacement only about two weeks now, so this occurrence may possibly be another defective unit. I bought a protection plan because of the reviews about this product. I maybe should have just bought another product than this one. Independent analysis of sound bars at the time I purchased the first one had this one as #1. I will update later if I continue to have to reboot everything to get it to work. I forgot to mention I am using the HDMI-ARC hookup which is the one suggested. Update: I think I found the answer on Sony’s website. Using an option on the remote - ie:voice - turns the HDMI-ARC option off. Since that is my connection method unconsciously I have been muting for restarting my connection, when trying to set the bar for better voice, less background. This bar does have good sound, very decent wattage and a reasonable price. I will stick with - now - 5 stars. ... show more

  • I was surprised
I was surprised how well this works and how easy to hook up. I bought this because im hard of hearing and this speaker did the trick for me. One single plug in the back of the TV and I was off to the races. Of course you have to plug it into 120v also.

  • Low sound but resolved
After installing the Sony soundbar and selecting arc input with my hdmi cable. I turned on the soundbar awaiting to hear a deep rich sound. I was very disappointed. The sound was no louder than my current roku TCL built in speakers. After much reading I went back into the settings on my TV and selected the default built in speakers and attached the optical line included with the soundbar. I now have the built ins and the soundbar all going and it'sa rich, deep sound and very loud. I'm satisfied with my purchase. ... show more
