  • Great Emulator!
This emulator works great and I had a lot of fun playing old NES, SNES, and Genesis games I haven't been able to play since a child ('85 baby). The controllers feel good and like how I remember the SNES controller, and I like the design aesthetic of the mini SNES system. One issue I've had is after almost a year of owning it, it has started to make a loud whirring noise on startup but then goes away after 30 seconds or so. Overall, a great purchase! ... show more

  • We love it! Worth the $!
If you’re on the fence about purchasing this, just go ahead do it. You’ll thank yourself later. The system works great and has thousands of old favorites and games you always wished you could play but never had a chance to own. Our console provides hours of entertainment for the adults and the kids. The controllers can be a little confusing at first, but you get used to it quickly. ... show more

  • Really Amazed, Surpassed My Expectations, Lots Of Fun
I am really amazed by the Sonicon Preloaded SNES console. Yes, it's a bit pricey, but with the rarity of the Nintendo mini consoles, and the fact they don't produce them anymore, I felt this was really the only option for me. Has everything I wanted and much, much more. NES and SNES full library (or essentially full, I can't spot any missing titles that I am aware of), check. Japanese market Famicom and Super Famicom games for an extra rarity of overseas games, check. The extra for me was all of the Sega, Gameboy, Gameboy Advance, Gameboy Color, etc. I use this to entertain my young nephew and it has me very entertained as well. Just has everything from my childhood and so much more than I ever had a chance to play or even see growing up. Really not much I can find on the negative side other than I have learned to use a long (25 ft) hdmi cord and similar length power extension cord to get the mini console out away from the TV, which then makes the relatively short controller cables not a problem. I have also used usb extension cables for the controllers and that works as well. It's great that the controllers use usb, very easy to add extensions for USB vs. proprietary plugs, etc. Just a really nicely done emulation station with tons of games, and plenty of expansion potential. ... show more

  • Awesome Retrogaming Console but Customer Support Could Be Better
I have always preferred the video games of the 70s, 80s, and 90s to the current ones so, when I found out a console was available that offered 6000+ games of that sort, I had to have it. I compared this console to other competing consoles and it seems this one got the best reviews for game variety and the quality of the on-screen rendering. Of the games I have played on it, I certainly have no disagreement there, video quality is very good and is adjustable. I have been using it now for two months and found it very simple to set up and get going. Navigating and searching through the game menus takes a little bit of practice since, unfortunately, the unit comes with almost no instructions so you have to poke around the Amazon comments and play a little with the unit comments to get a sense of how to search for games and make other modifications (like removing the screen overlay bezels (the art work surrounding the edge of the game play screen) which can be a distraction from the game itself while playing). The operating system used by the console is Super Retropie (Linux) so you can search for videos on Super Retropie for beginners online and that will give you an idea of all the possibilities latent in this little unit but this does not need to be done to play games. It is more for if you want to customize the overall experience of using the console. I think this toy makes a fantastic gift for "retro-gamers". Two things that would make this a five star review for me: 1. Include actual instructions. The unit came with two tiny pieces of paper, with more pictures than words and was no help understanding which cord connected to what. Also, the unit comes with a decorative/pretend game cartridge that can be attached to the unit itself via a magnet if you want the unit to look more like the actual Super Nintendo Entertainment System in miniature that it is supposed to look like, but the instructions don't tell you that this attachment is decorative and so I spent some time figuring out exactly how this magnetic attachment had anything to do with console operation until I found a comment from another buyer that had the same question. Overall not a big problem, but somewhat frustrating. 2. Customer support at GameGear (the company that sells these consoles) could use improvement. the customer support e-mail address provided in the instructions did not work and my message was returned undeliverable. One of the things you will see when you fire up this console is that you can get 3000 more bonus games by scanning a QR code on the screen. Scanning this QR code will take you to Messenger. Now, if you do not have a Messenger account and the customer support e-mail does not work then, what to do? GameGear does offer chat support on their website but both times I tried it, I never got to chat with an actual human being but just waited and waited. Luckily, the second time I tried, the AI mentioned clicking on a button at the bottom right of the chat for "FAQs". Figuring I had nothing to lose, I clicked on that button and found an FAQ that explained how one goes about unlocking the bonus games - glad I thought to try. ... show more

  • This thing is amazing.
So many games, it's like a time machine to my youth. The best thing that could happen back in the day on a Friday was a sleepover and a trip to the video rental store. I feel like I have every game I would try and rent as a youth. I'm still figuring out how to get the N64 controls to work with the provided controller. As well as saving games but over all this thing is amazing. I'm glad they added the search and filter functionality because there is so many cool games. ... show more
