  • Good sound, great value and a capable instrument for a student
This turned out to be an great instrument for a student performer in youth orchestra. After a month of the student playing this saxophone in the orchestra, we asked the conductor/teacher for his expert opinion on the instrument’s quality and performance. “I am a professional saxophone player and educator of 40+ years. One of my students recently started playing the Sonicake Alto Saxophone in the symphonic and jazz orchestra and I was pleasantly surprised at the sound. He’s been playing it for a month and here’s what I think about the horn: Pros: 1. The horn came well packed for travel with all the keys locked in position with cork to prevent misalignment. 2. It has good weight. It feels comparable to other quality student model horns or bigger brands. The metal is a nice weight which helps with the tone quality. 3. It plays well. My student gets a very good sound, (student uses a high-quality mouthpiece) in the upper and lower range of the horn. 4. It comes with a nice case. Cons: 1. The mouthpiece needs to be pushed in all the way in on the cork to be in tune. It’s very flat in the “normal” position on the neck. Even with a quality mouthpiece, the intonation was wonky if not pushed in all the way. We eventually found the sweet spot when the mouthpiece is pushed in as far as it can go. This will eventually cause the cork to be damaged and it will need to be changed sooner than normal. Overall, it’s a good student horn and my student loves it.” ... show more

  • Beginner Friendly Sax with Everything Included
I ordered the SONICAKE Alto Saxophone E Flat – Beginner Friendly Gold Saxophone Full Kit for Students with Carry Case, Mouthpiece, Reeds & Accessories QSX-01 when it was listed at 349.99, and I’d rate it at about three and a half stars overall, positive for a beginner instrument. Right out of the case, this saxophone looks great. The gold finish is attractive and gives it a polished, complete appearance. The included case is solid and protective, with good padding and structure, making it suitable for transport and storage for a student. The key layout and grips are comfortable and well positioned, making it easy to hold and manageable for someone still learning proper hand placement. The kit itself is nicely rounded. It comes with plenty of 2.5 reeds, which means it’s ready to play without immediately needing extra accessories. Having everything included in one package makes this especially convenient for beginners or students just starting out. Sound-wise, to my untrained ear, it produces a good tone. Notes come out cleanly enough during basic play, and it doesn’t sound thin or harsh, which is reassuring for an entry-level saxophone. For someone learning, it delivers a satisfying sound without requiring a lot of fine adjustment. The main drawback comes down to materials. Because the body is not brass, the instrument is noticeably lightweight and does not have the solid heft of traditional alto saxophones. That gives it a slightly cheaper overall impression in hand, though this is also likely what keeps it accessible as a beginner-focused model. For the listed price, this saxophone offers good visual appeal, a sturdy case, comfortable handling, a complete starter kit, and respectable sound quality for someone new to the instrument. It’s clearly designed for beginners rather than long-term advancement, but it performs well within that role and offers decent value for an all-in-one starter setup. ... show more

  • Uhh. WOW! Surprisingly nice sax!!
Ok, so here’s the deal.. I absolutely LOVE Sonicake’s guitar pedals, especially the Sonicake Portal… but I had no idea they did Saxophones… but here we are! First impressions of the kit.. “ooo, it comes with a stand!”.. then “wow, this is a very nice case!” And then.. “holy cow, this is a real instrument!” I think if you want to start out playing Sax from scratch, this is an excellent way to do it on the cheap, and it seems to have basically everything you need. All in all, a surprisingly good value. Well done, Sonicake! ... show more

  • Decent build quality, decent sound
I want to preface this by saying this is my first saxophone so I'm new to all of it... With that being said, most of what I have to comment on are the glaringly obvious things about it. As far as build quality goes, it's pretty decent. Some things feel like they're made of a really nice quality while others feel kind of cheap. The whole instrument looks beautiful, is actually kind of heavy, and the carving on the bell is really pretty. The keys are probably where the saxophone feels the cheapest. One of the cork pads that keeps metal from hitting metal fell off within a few minutes of using, so that wasn't really great. Thankfully it's a pretty easy fix with some glue. The sound is actually pretty nice. I don't want to say too much about the sound because I've heard people sound terrible with expensive instruments just as well, so sound to me is subjective, but it's clear and loud, and doesn't sound breathy or like there's air leaks somewhere. The kit includes a lot of things, of which I'm not sure what most of it does, but it's nice that it's included anyways. The stand is a pretty solid quality. It doesn't feel like it's going to tip over, though I would have liked to see some kind of strap to keep the instrument in place, rather than just resting it on the stand and trusting it to stay. The included neck strap took me longer than I'd like to admit to figure out, but once I got it on it feels sturdy. It's not the most comfortable thing though, so that might be something to upgrade in the future. All in all, for a beginner instrument it's not bad. Being that new (name brand) instruments can cost into the thousands, this is a pretty cheap option for someone who is just starting out or deciding if they want to learn. As a parent it's one of those things you can feel "ok" about spending the money on if your kiddo decides it's not for them. ... show more
