  • A clever witty comedy about female friendships!
Master storyteller JoJo Moyes is back in her groove with her 14th novel, SOMEONE ELSE'S SHOES — A witty comedy about two 40ish women from different walks of life who accidentally wind up with each other's shoes and more! Nisha (second wife) lives the glamorous life globetrotting with her uber-wealthy husband, Carl. She is an American traveling in London. Sam is harried, a married woman with a lot going on. She accidentally grabs the wrong bag (Marc Jacobs gym bag) at the gym and winds up with a pair of custom-made Christian Louboutin heels, a Chanel jacket, and more. She is late for a meeting and decides to wear the new found designer heels, which gives her new confidence. In the meantime, Nisha is on the treadmill and soon realizes when she arrives in the changing room to grab her bag— it is not her bag. This bag is a cheap fake leather one, peeling at the seams, and a Marc Jacobs tag tarnished, a knock-off with ugly block-heeled black pumps. Not today, she thinks! Nisha arrives at the Bentley Hotel to find Carl has locked her out of the penthouse and frozen all her accounts. He has taken off with his assistant. The gym is closed and Sam has no way to return the bag. She has a depressed hubby and a horrible boss. However, with the new shoes and Chanel jacket, she seems to be having fun for a change and killing it. Nisha does not have many female friends but not close ones, plus she is in London. Her son is back in the states. Without money, what is she going to do? Meanwhile, Nisha has nothing but is resourceful and takes a job at the hotel cleaning rooms where she was a guest, thanks to the friendly Jasmine. Carl wants her to find the Louboutins since he gave them to her. Between Nisha and Sam and the cast of secondary characters, readers will laugh out loud with all the madness and clever twists. You will laugh and cry. A highly entertaining and heartwarming novel about friendships, women's empowerment, family, betrayal, and hope. Moyes' fans will be delighted and love these two women. #JDCMustReadBooks ... show more

  • Engaging Story About Female Friendships
What makes a book a winner for me? When I can’t put it down, even reading while on bus or car rides, and very relatable main characters. I am happy to report that this book (my first by this author! ) ticked all the boxes. Nisha and Sam are from two very different worlds but their fates become entwined when Sam accidentally picks up Nisha’s gym bag, containing a very pricey pair of Christian Louboutin heels. Something amazing happens when Sam dares to wear the stunning shoes. She becomes more self- confident and assertive, and in turn, she sets in motion a change of events that will shake up her mundane life. Nisha is dealing with her own set of problems and while she always believed herself to be extremely confident, also finds new strength. I absolutely loved the clever plot and the supporting characters. While the ending was little predictable, I still enjoyed every minute of this wonderful, empowering story. Highly recommend! Favorite quotes: There is a shorthand in women this age, Sam realizes. There is none of the sharp elbows of their twenties and thirties, not an ounce of competitiveness. By their late forties and fifties, they’re all survivors, of death, divorce, disease, trauma, of something.” “Some days I’ve felt like I don’t even exist. It’s hard for you to imagine now, while you’re young and beautiful and everyone notices every move you make. But I seem to be invisible, these days, and when even the man you love doesn’t see you it’s . . . well, it’s pretty soul-destroying. I needed to feel like a different version of myself— and the shoes, I guess, were a part of that.” ... show more

  • Someone else’s shoes Great page turner
Jojo Moyes knows how to keep you engaged. In Someone Else’s Shoes, she creates a new situation that twists and turns the plot. Great fast beach read. I think women would enjoy this most. I’m still not clear how Nisha managed to stay hidden in plain sight, but that keeps your interest peaked.

  • A delightful read!
All about a pair of shoes. Walking in someone else’s shoes literally. And it brings unlikely characters together as they discover who they really are or can be. Loved this book and could’t put it down. At times I laughed out loud. I loved the way loose ends tied neatly together.

  • Really good read!
The female characters were well developed. They came together as a team to be a force on a mission. Sometimes, it was just down right hilarious, and sometimes very tense. Four women in various places in life, come together to strengthen, comfort and encourage each other.

  • uplifting and fun
Loved this book and all the many characters. One mix up on a busy day for two women brings incredible change for them and so many others. This book highlights the strength of women and strong female friendships. The book leaves us feeling that the struggles that we all endure can be remedied by the ingenuity of women working together as a team with a good sense of humor. ... show more

  • A fun and fast read.
Someone Else’s Shoes is a strong forthright story about womanhood and gaining and retaining women friendships. I give it 4 stars only because it is predictable in some parts and a bit over the top in actuality of events. However, both of these negatives do not deter or diminish the smiles, laughs and touching sentiments I enjoyed while reading the novel. The characters and settings are very visual due to the skillful descriptions Moyes presents. The pace of the plot is excellent as Moyes generates fast moving circumstances among each character’s personal life. The novel also has several themes that are thought provoking and stimulating for further review and/or discussion. Good Read!! ... show more
