Description

In Solosexual: Portrait of a Masturbator, author Jason Armstrong takes you into a world of men for whom masturbation is more than a quick wank to relieve stress or a substitute for so-called “real sex”. For some men, masturbation is the best sex of their lives and they have created a community to celebrate it. In the first book ever to do so, the concept of solosexuality is explored through Jason Armstrong’s personal lens, making this book a memoir, a manifesto and an investigation into living a life in which masturbation is one’s primary sexual outlet. • Naked Honesty: A review of SOLOSEXUAL: PORTRAIT OF A MASTURBATOR
This book took some guts to write, yet it also seems to have been necessary to the author that he share this account of his personal journey. SOLOSEXUAL contains a rare combination of raw and honest enthusiasm for male masturbation, along with the intelligence to write about the subject with clarity, honesty, and depth. The subject is dear to my own heart, as I’ve been involved in sex education to encourage men in this realm for over 20 years now. Jason begins quickly by taking the reader directly into a realm that may seem specialized and perhaps even shocking at first to the uninitiated. The existence of this subculture, of men dedicated to self-pleasure as more that a hasty relief of sexual tension, indeed a serious devotion to the possibilities and range of intense physical self-love, may come as news to some readers. To those somewhat familiar with the website Bateworld, and the global Phallic Brotherhood, both online and in masturbation clubs, what Jason writes about will ring true, and affirm much for you. Whatever your reaction to the subject, your reaction says more about you than about this author, who is straightforward, totally honest, sensible and human on the subject. What ended up astonishing me, is the reminder of how far we still have to go to demystify the subject of what is surely the most common and most harmless of sexual experiences in the world. Jason’s excellent book contributes a witness that is detailed and personal to him, while speaking of matters universal to all men, though it remains almost unspeakable to many. His book also documents a “subversive” subculture I feel is crucial to a mentally healthy future for humanity. Male sexual frustration is a major root of our troubles with aggression and destruction on the Earth, and what Jason documents is part of the antidote to male self-loathing. SOLOSEXUAL is an important contribution to the true sexual revolution of self-pleasure happening now, which explicitly sheds light on a sub-culture that is coming into the light of wider awareness in the New Millennium, and not a moment to soon. Men who pursue masturbatory excellence without guilt or shame can become better, happier, healthier, more kind and loving men. Thanks so much for this courageous and eloquent document, Jason. – Bruce P. Grether ... show more

  • Man to Man
Very interesting read regarding a male and his sexuality. This is something all men do and will continue throughout life.

  • Putting the Soul into Solosexuality
This is a remarkable book written by an unflinchingly honest and introspective writer. Jason Armstrong's book is part memoir, part manifesto, and consistently masterful. His words are both raw and wise. The deftness with which he takes us into, through, and beyond the world of bating and solosexuality (a term still so new that spell check insists I made it up) is nothing less than stunning. From the history of masturbation itself to deeply personal and moving anecdotes to piercing analysis to a multitude of insightful questions, Jason explains himself to himself- and thus to us. If we accept his gift of audacious self-examination, we can in turn begin to explain ourselves to ourselves. Every time I paused to think, "Yeah, bator bro, but what about...?" Jason read my mind and addressed every shade of meaning I was hoping he'd explore. My paperback copy is filled with my markings of each of Jason's brilliant observations, brave confessions, and confident expressions of pride in the man he's become. This isn't just a book about bating or about a new (yet ageless) form of self-love; it's an ardent expression of the power of self-transformation and owning one's authenticity with aplomb and honor. ... show more

  • A celebration of self love
What an amazing read - a book that I recommend to anybody who isn't ashamed to celebrate sexual love for themselves.

  • The author does a good job on painting vivid pictures in the readers' head ...
I can't blame the writing, as it is excellently done. The author does a good job on painting vivid pictures in the readers' head and even makes the reader think. I do feel, however, that more so than a treatise on what being a "solosexual" means, it is a memoir of the author's sexual adventures. I was expecting the book to be more insightful about solosexuality, masturbation, interaction with other males, how solosexuality contrasts with other sexualities ("straight," "homosexual," "bisexual," etc.) but it was more along the lines of "this is how I masturbate, and why that makes me a solosexual." I would have liked to have read about masturbation, and how it is a brotherhood that unites all males regardless of sexuality. Instead, I feel I was needlessly made to read about the author's fetishes and raunchy adventures. If that is what the book was supposed to be about, I would have liked to have seen this more prominent in the book's title. Are what this author does during his masturbation sessions (urination, preserving old semen, smelling his own sweat etc..) really relevant to the topic? As a reader, I felt rather alienated. Rather than feel the book was about me, or other males, I felt as if this was more the author flaunting his fetishes for his readers. Figuratively speaking I feel like a person who has been flashed by a naked guy in a trenchcoat in the streets. Somethings about Jason I just did not need to know. That's what this book should have been called. "Raunchy Fetishes of an Obsessed Masturbator." The author does touch on solosexuality here and there, and I must admit, he's got an excellent writing style. For this reason, I can't give him one star. I'll give him three. If the author could write a book on the brotherhood of man (meaning masturbation, our penises and what they mean, what experiencing orgasm means for all of us etc..) that would be great. Until then, yeah, 3 stars. ... show more
