  • The cd without a cd
The package does not contain a cd, ostensibly for environmental reasons, but presumably also because a lot of people don’t use cd’s anymore. One can download high quality and regular wav files. I was able to play the files on my laptop, and also put them on a flash drive and play them in my car. A book with song lyrics is also provided. Enough was provided. I have spent some time listening to the music and I enjoy it. The album has a different style and tone than Lorde’s other albums, but her influence is still there. It’s too bad it takes Lorde four years to come out with new albums. ... show more

  • Definition of “less is more”
I like that Lorde took this approach to deliver a unique experience to indulge ourselves in her most unique album yet. I loved the pictures and posters the box set included, and her attention to the aesthetic of this album is immaculate.

  • Don’t count this record off yet
Lorde showed us what she’s capable of with PH and melodrama and although the sonic landscape changed, the music reigns true to who Ella is and that is one of this generations greatest lyricists. The early twenties are a tumultuous and thought provoking era and she sums all the terror of existing in this album (see: stoned at the nail salon and fallen fruit). It’s a masterpiece to say the least. ... show more

  • Sunny, sultry, summertime vibes
Like sunbathing on a mellow summer afternoon, the rosy-flesh color of the sun through your closed eyelids, while your mind drifts away on mildly psychedelic daydreams. On the other hand, it sounds almost like when you've had too much time in the sun... you're tired, sunburned, a little burned out, hazy, introspective. Could have fit somewhere in something from California in the 1960s but it also feels completely contemporary. Really wonderful. ... show more

  • Utterly tone-deaf for the trendy . . .
Well, this is what we asked for - kind of. With digital music, there was much to be said about the lack of album art and this is a pretty package that's basically just album art. The THEORY here is that CDs are bad because if you throw it in the ocean, it's garbage. That's where we get to the problem of this being tone deaf. The current concern with digital music is not being able to OWN it . . . however the argument at the time goes, it's just not like CD/Vinyl or Cassette. Music has a HUGE secondary market . . . vinyl is making its way back. I bought this knowing that it was probably just a digital download of some sort, but HOPED that it was some kind of biodegradable USB stick or something thoughtful. Instead, we've got music downloaded from a 3rd party and when they go out of business or some arbitrary other thing happens, it's gone. This concept could have EASILY have been done with more thought put into it. You buy a digital album for $10, you get Amazon, Apple, Google, Joe's MP3 Shack or whatever. If you buy a 'music box' you get a digital album from the mainstream vendor, this nice little bit of album art, and the special code to get more for the album "when Lorde feels like it". Trent Reznor has toyed with some different release models over the years . . . this would have been an opportunity by a fresh young mind to move us back towards the music experience. Instead, we're saving the oceans from CD collections which are probably in the driest places in our homes and they're not getting tossed out until the media degrades. ... show more

  • Worth it
I am once again blown away by Lorde's artistic decisions and the production of her music. The discless music box is nicely crafted and the photos are beautifully printed. I really appreciate the quality of the music box and I'm enjoying the album! Shipping was also very fast and overall I support the choice to be more environmentally conscious with the creation of this discless option! ... show more

  • Excellent third album
I liked Lorde but didnt think I would get her on vinyl until I heard this release. Really well rounded album with more light than the previous ones. I am sure my wife will over play it but I think we'll be digging it out in years to come. And yes the cover art is fun and she is wearing a bikini.

This purchase is for a cardboard box which contains some photo cards, a fold out poster, a lyric booklet with photos and a business card with a code to DOWNLOAD a digital copy of the album with 2 BONUS SONGS. You can also download a HD version of the album with the codes. DO NOT BUY IF YOU ARE ONLY LOOKING FOR A CD OF THE ALBUM it does not contain one. ... show more
