This product is becoming harder to find in stores, so I came to Amazon for it. I've been using this perm for more than 12 years and it's always been excellent. I stopped perming my hair 4 years ago when I started braiding it, although I continued to use it on my daughter's hair. In the past year, the consistency of the perm after mixed has been somewhat watery and doesn't stick to hair well, which means it isn't doing its job well. The most recent purchase, the consistency was fine but it hardly straightened her hair, although it somewhat relaxed the roots. I decided to use the 2nd application from the box on my hair, which is basically virgin hair. My hair texture isn't thick but has a medium coil pattern. Again it did not straightened, but mildly relaxed the curl. I'm feeling there's a reason this product cannot be found in the store. For this to be a professional level product (which is why it doesn't come with gloves and shampoo), it doesn't meet the mark. Sadly I need to find a new product. This isn't a good product anymore. UPDATE: I contacted Softsheen Carson to find out why it's so hard to find. They have discontinued this product and there's nothing close to the formula outside of the Dark n Lovely perm which is terrible. Maybe the wave of people going natural is making it obsolete?

I’ve been using this one for years. This is a great gentle and moisturizing relaxer. It doesn’t break your hair off. I highly recommend it.

I purchased this relaxer about a year ago. I was natural and changed my mind about straightening my hair after purchasing it. There it sat in the bathroom cabinet collecting dust. About 3 months ago I decided that I wanted to straighten my hair with a relaxer. After 3 years of being natural, I never figured out how to care for natural hair. I kept losing a handful of hair every time I combed or washed my hair. I purchased 2 haircare books and tons of products. I have 2 cabinets and 3 storage containers with products I purchased that did nothing to help my hair. I was reluctant to relax because I feared by hair would fall out from the process. I was wrong! My hair is so straight and silky. I am only losing a few strands now instead of a whole handful. I wish I had done this sooner. Even thought I still have 1 container of relaxer cream left, I immediately reordered another kit to have it on hand. I have only positive things to say about my experience. I purchased a good post relaxer treatment that is used after relaxing but before shampooing (Optimum Smooth by Softsheen Carson). I also purchased a good moisturizing neutralizing shampoo (Sulfate Free Moisture Neutralizing Shampoo/Smooth & Silken by Motions). Both were purchased on Amazon. I am so very happy with the results!

The relaxer is the real deal. I have curly/frizzy hair. No conditioner no shampoo no keratin treatment made my hair smooth and straight until I tried this product. I was surprised how straight sheer and silky my hair got after one treatment. I left the relaxer on my hair for ~20 minutes and I was combing my hair in the meantime. Then I just washed my hair and let it dry. The ending result was closer to magics than reality. Two cons though: 1) my scalp was itching for 2-3 days after the treatment. 2) my hair feels REALLY dry after the treatment. No biggie, a little almond oil will rid you from the dryness.

Well, I'm not quite sure how to rate this product. First things first, it worked, but it destroyed my hair. I had very curly, very frizzy, uncontrollable hair and I had to straighten it everyday. I have tried products, shampoos, conditioners, hair wrapping techniques, everything. Nothing worked and I always ended up looking like a fluffy mess, you get the idea. I had had my hair professionally relaxed about 4 or 5 years ago and it did absolutely nothing, it actually dried out my hair and made it even fluffier so I was very hesitant using this product by myself 4 years later when it took me about 5 years to grow the last one out. I did the strand test twice before use, once near the top of my head, and once more near the nape of my neck and they both turned out fine so I decided to go big or go home and do the rest of my hair. I left it on for the minimum amount of time (10 minutes) and used a color changing neutralizer (rinses pink when relaxer is still in your hair, and turns white when it's gone) and deep conditioned afterwards. This is about the time I started freaking out. When I got out of the shower and combed, HUGE CLUMPS OF MY HAIR STARTED FALLING OUT!!! It was falling the F*** OUT! Every time I combed more and more just kept falling out! I thought I was going to go bald or end up looking like Joe Dirt before it finally stopped after about 3 big hand fulls came out (I'm not exaggerating). Thank God almighty that I have crazy thick hair and it ended up thinning it out evenly rather than turning into a mullet. I really dodged a bullet with this one. All in all, it did do what it said it would do and now my hair can air dry beautifully and naturally. I have the hair I've always wanted, but I had to lose about 1/3 of my hair to make it happen. I'm not sure if I'm impressed or pissed...
