Description

In her captivating debut, author Sarah Vacchiano tells an exciting “coming of adulthood” story about a young woman who takes a bold new path in her early thirties, leaving her old life—and starter marriage—behind. When Sam walked herself down the aisle at the age of twenty-two, she never imagined wanting more than the life she had in that moment. Seven years later, with the ink still drying on both her law degree and her divorce papers, she arrives in Manhattan ready to start adulthood over and chase her dreams of becoming an entertainment lawyer, determined to prove to herself that upending her life was worth it.As Sam navigates the high-pressure world of Big Law—heady and demanding, and full of magnetic and powerful people—she finds an unexpected ally in her charming, supportive officemate, Charlie. But just as he begins to tear down the walls Sam has built around herself, she lands her first big client, a “Poker Princess” facing federal charges for running high-stakes games for Hollywood’s elite, and discovers just how high stakes “fake it till you make it” can be when you’ve given up everything to become someone new.Emotionally nuanced and delightfully frothy, Soft Launch is a sharp, witty novel that explores the messy reality of starting over and finding yourself. • Incredible beautiful book
Format: Hardcover
I honestly loved this book. This is a glorious book. Sarah Vacchiano writes Sam with such truth, delicacy, emotional intelligence, and quiet soul that you soon realize it lives somewhere between fiction and non-fiction. It feels less like a novel and more like being allowed into someone’s inner life at exactly the right moment. I witnessed some of the stories behind this book. I was there. And I can truly say how extraordinary it is to live them again through Sarah’s mind. What once felt private, fragile, and still in motion becomes luminous on the page. This is not a divorce story. It is a phoenix story about the terrifying, exhilarating instant when you stop performing the life you were meant to want and begin listening for the one you actually do. Sarah understands that this crossing is not neat or heroic. It is tender, disorienting, funny, painful, and alive. She knows this territory in her bones. As an artist, those contradictions are what fuel my work. As a father and a friend, it reminds me how worth it all the mess of living really is. The prose sings. It can make you laugh and ache in the same breath. There is real generosity here, not just in what is told, but in how it is offered. Sarah gives you the mess and the grace together, without asking you to choose. A stunning debut from a writer who has taken lived experience and turned it into a lantern for anyone who has ever wondered if it is too late to begin again. It never is. Leopoldo Gout ... show more

  • Absolutely love it 😍
Format: Kindle
Samantha just passed the bar and is getting divorced the same week. She also landed her dream job in New York and this is her fresh start. Then she meets Charlie her “office mate”. Absolutely amazing book 📕. For any of us that is starting over, nobody how old we are is scary 🫣. And this book definitely has that. Samantha tries to balance it all friends work and relationships. After working on a big case that takes her way from every body. She has a hard time finding herself. But then she does and it great, 😊 she finally figure out how to balance everything. The ending was good 😊 it was like will they be together or won’t they. 😌😊🥰 ... show more

  • Easy read
Format: Kindle
While I liked the idea of a woman (Sam) upending her comfortable life to go after the things she really wants, I felt like the story dragged a little. Her cycle with alcohol was a little tiresome but I guess that is what alcoholism is. This is a story about not being able to have it all. It was an easy read. Nothing too significant or impressive. I would say it’s a nice palette cleanser. ... show more

Format: Kindle
SO good. Really interesting and believable look at navigating the world of law, lawyers, law school etc. but I also loved the keen thoughtful insight about people and relationships. Funny, entertaining and heartbreaking at times, I enjoyed this book!!

  • A happily surprised reader
Format: Kindle
I selected this as part of the new month free reads thinking it would be just ok and I liked it more than I thought I would! The chemistry between the leads was great and the writing was well done!

  • Great fast read!
Format: Kindle
Great read. Can’t believe it’s the authors first book. Got a free copy with my Amazon prime membership not knowing that this book isn’t even out yet!! I finished it at 2am last night and was crushed to see that the sequel wasn’t even out yet and that this book hasn’t even been released yet 😭😭 I cannot wait to see what happens with Sam & Charlie!! ... show more

  • Not for me, but not terrible.
Format: Kindle
Not gonna lie, it took forever to get into Soft Launch, and having sat with the ending for a bit, I can honestly say I'm not entirely certain of the main plot. I get the main character is trying to find her footing after making a drastic life change, but the actual story is filled with details of legal cases and a fairly absurd amount of random information. I'm left wanting something to help make sense of it all, like the author handed me a puzzle with only 2/3 of the pieces. (I still don't know what the main character looks like beyond apparently having an Italian background.) The writing itself is well done, but I can't say I'll be revisiting this book anytime soon. ... show more

  • Great little quick read
Format: Kindle
I enjoyed following Sam’s progress throughout the book. From her love interests to her career, everything was a rush. This was a very nice page turner that I enjoyed! I will say, that I was hoping the ending would end in a way I’m sure we were all thinking. While it leaves you on a cliff, it’s a nice change of pace from the predictability of most other rom-com type books. I’ll look out for her future reads! ... show more
