Nothing makes a day out on the slopes as disappointing as a bad fall on your tailbone while snowboarding. A bad fall on an icy section will send a streak up your spine that can potentially ruin your day. Padding is essential, in my opinion, if you're not quite an expert on your board yet. My kids use a big pillow right now that really helps keep them from getting discouraged every time they fall. The pillows are nice but they are bulky and can get in the way when sitting on the lift. These shorts are padded nicely both on the inside and outside of the shorts. It also provides padding on the thigh and hip areas. They do seem to run long, but when worn underneath snow pants, you really don't notice that. They seem to fit well and do provide padding. We haven't yet worn them out since spring is coming and most of our days on the slopes numbered but I anticipate they will really help. I'll update this review should we find issues with placement of the pads, and durability. ... show more
