Description

Screen legend Robert Redford (3 Days of the Condor) leads an all-star cast, including the great Sidney Poitier (In the Heat of the Night) and Dan Ackroyd (Ghostbusters), in an exciting, suspense-filled caper! Computer expert Martin Bishop (Redford) heads a team of renegade hackers—including a former CIA employee (Poitier), a gadgets wizard (Ackroyd), a young genius (River Phoenix) and a blind soundman (David Strathairn)—who are routinely hired to test security systems. But Bishop’s past comes back to haunt him when government agents blackmail the “sneakers” into carrying out a covert operation: tracking down an elusive black box. Along with his former flame (Mary McDonnell), Bishop’s team retrieves the box and makes a stunning discovery—the device can break into any computer system in the world. With factions from all sides willing to kill for the powerful box, Bishop and his team embark on their most dangerous assignment ever in this high-tech heist film from director Phil Alden Robinson (Field of Dreams).Special Features:DISC 1 (4KUHD): • Brand New HDR/Dolby Vision Master – From a 4K Scan of the 35mm Original Camera Negative • Audio Commentary by Director/Co-Writer Phil Alden Robinson with Co- Writers/Co-Producers Lawrence Lasker and Walter F. • Stands up to multiple viewings, tech isn't tedious
In most movies that involve computers in some way, the way they describe computers or use them is so implausible that for an IT guy like me, it pulls me out of enjoying the movie, and I start critiquing the stupidity of what they're saying. The script to this movie is very well-written, they use plain English and don't get into stringing technical words together to try to sound smart, as most TV shows do. It's funny and stands up to multiple viewings well, and the music...the music is magical. ... show more

  • 'Old' Fashioned early Hacker-Spy Thriller. Yet pretty Entertaining!
This movie has a great cast of older famous names from the 'golden age' of cinema, and surprisingly doesn't feel dated like similar movies from the time. Apparently its name came from an early internet slang for hackers in the 90's, which is kind of funny. But all the actors play their parts pretty convincingly. Would recommend a watch for a Movie night if you like older movies! ... show more

  • Simply excellent
To begin with, this movie was made in 1992, when we were just getting a brief taste of the tech that was going to be on its way. This is a thinking person's thriller, so if you need explosions and CGI every 5 minutes, you probably won't like this movie. The cast is excellent, and the acting is awesome. Highly recommended! ... show more

  • Fun tech caper made better by a great cast
Sneakers is one of my favorite movies. If you're able to get past dates tech and suspend yourself in disbelief in the film's logic, you're in for a fun movie. Sneakers is a computer hacker thriller with some comedy thrown in for good measure. What makes it work is the tight pacing and talented cast, led by Robert Redford and Ben Kingsley. Not to be outdone is Redfords rag tag group that helps infiltrate security for a living. Fun performances from Sidney Poitier, Dan Aykroyd, River Phoenix and David Stranahan. Underrated gem, and worth a look all these years later if you can forgive the dates tech. ... show more

  • Don't Blink-You May Miss Something!
This is one of the best written, acted, scripted and action movies I've seen. This isn't the movie for blood mongers as there is none. However, the humor is sophisticated and the acting impeccable. Only this movie could make Sydney Poitier appear humorous and he relishes his role. All the other main cast members play their parts to the fullest with no over-acting and yet a seductive and magnetic plot that keeps one riveted to the movie. My wife and I have watched this movie over 5 times and yet it will not leave our top 5 list. ... show more

  • I saw this movie years ago and enjoyed it greatly.
It's a typical Hollywood drama, but in parts - especially at the end - it is hilarious.
