I've owned the VHS since its release and was just blown away by the excellent quality of the DTS Audio & Video.. was so geeked to watch this movie again after so many years.. you can aapriciate the actors and the attention to detail for the little things. Did anyone catch the little details how Iggy & Spike both discusses how they were loyal to the King before Koopa took over control of the Mushroom Kingdom :) ... show more

Special features were nice A shame they couldn't restore the work print to look nicer. I really wanted this blu ray to have the advertised cover. Looks nicer than what I got

    • Plays Great, But Missing the Slip Cover
The discs are definitely region free, and the conversion for the movie looks and sounds great. The special features are a pain to navigate, but that's on the manufacturer, not this seller. The work print on the bonus disc is super fun to have. The issue comes from the fact that this was a limited 3,000-copy release, and mine arrived without the slip cover as pictured in the product listing. I reached out and only got an automated response about returns. I don't want to return it; this is a rare item and it plays fine. But as a collector and because this is a limited, numbered item, not having the slip cover is an absolute bummer. Radio silence from the seller on this issue. ... show more

    • Worth it for the Workprint Alone
Super Mario Bros. is not a cinematic classic. However, I've grown to like the movie over the years. They did something unique with a well known franchise and made it into their own vision. Maybe that wasn't the best vision, but I applaud them for taking a risk. So why should you buy this? For one, seeing the movie in 4K is a treat! It looks amazing compared to my last watch on TV. Secondly, the second disc contains a lost for years workprint of the movie. It's pretty cool seeing a different cut with unfinished music, different dialogue, etc. The reviews below are misleading as well. The 4K (and all 4K discs for that matter) are region free. They will work on any US player without issue. Even though the second disc is a blu-ray, it is also region free and I can confirm it played on my Panasonic UB420 without issue. I do know that there is a blu-ray only version of this for sale and I cannot vouch for that one. Blu-rays tend to be region locked, so they may have been referring to that version. If you have a 4K player, make sure you buy that version. Overall, I do recommend this movie. While not a cinematic classic, this is the best the movie has ever looked. It's not going to utilize Dolby Atmos but it does sound good for a 90's movie. They kept the sound authentic to the time, so those expecting a home theater sounding movie should reset expectations. For the workprint alone and improved visuals, it's worth a buy. ... show more
