    • Works very well!
I did some substantial online research before deciding to purchase this particular smoke top. For many other smoke tops, I noted people were having issues making the top work or having a bad taste arising from a sealant on the wood which burned. However, the only issues noted for the Middleton were associated with the torch (I purchased my own separate torch) and folks trying to use an incorrect approach to lighting (using a candle burner or just a match, for example). I also talked to our local bartender, who makes the most amazing smoked old fashioned drinks - and they use this particular smoker brand/style. With that, I purchased this item - and from my first use it has worked great. You need to get the art of holding the torch the right distance from the smoke top, and using only a few chips at a time - but it generates a significant amount of wonderful smelling smoke in a short time, and imparts great flavor to my old fashioned. I am definitely a fan. Furthermore, when the wrong kind of chips were sent with my order, I contacted Middleton and they quickly responded and addressed the minor issue. ... show more

    • Make sure you understand how to light the smoker properly
The media could not be loaded. This smoke top works as it should and has given me zero issues. The biggest thing that needs to be said is that people giving this bad reviews saying it’s not working properly are because they aren’t using a butane torch to light, it explicitly says that you need one because that’s what ends up pushing the smoke down into the glass that you’re wanting to smoke in. You can’t just use a regular lighter or even a match since that will only light it and cause smoke to go upwards. In the video I posted I also show how easy it is to switch out the smoke top and add a different lid to a glass to smoke multiple cocktails at the same time. If you’re buying this to use for an event or to take to a get together with a good amount of people then I’d recommend doing yourself the favor of buying more wood chips since the bag it comes with isn’t a lot, enough to get you started but that’s about it. ... show more

Be aware: You will need to use a butane torch. Regular matches or multipurpose lighters will not work. I like this product because it is easy to use and gives a huge smoke flavor. Can be overwhelming to some, depending on preference.

I have a smoking gun but this is so much easier to do smoked cocktails! It takes so little of the chips for a great smoked drink! It doesn't fill the room with smoke like my gun does!     • Buy this one, not because of price but because it works!
Bought a cheaper version that went below the rim of the glass with multiple holes drilled in the "upside down chimney." Smoke goes up, not sideways. When bounced off the bottom of the "chimney" the smoke tended to go up, not through the side holes. Even enlarging the holes with bigger drill bits didn't help. Although it did smoke our Old Fashioned it did not smoke it very well. Bought this one and WHAT A DIFFERENCE. The smoke flows smoothly and hugs the ice like it should. Our friends, especially my wife's girlfriends love it. This smoke is identical in design and function and used at one of our favorite restaurants near Siesta Key.....Tripletail Seafood and Spirits. I saw this product used at a bar and the cocktail was so delicious that I had to buy my own smoker. It's so easy to use, only need a pinch of wood chips. My old fashioned tasted so good with this smoker. The wood chips last a while even though it seems like a small bag. I can't wait to try more smoked drinks.     • Overpriced Under-delivered
This is a great item to give as a gift. That being the case the packaging is extremely lacking. It arrived looking used. That’s likely from transit but either way it looked like I pulled it out of a tightly packed backpack of a 2nd grader. Also, the promotional pics on the item all show wood chips as though that was a part of the package but it’s not. Not sure where it says the chips aren’t included but they sure make it look like they do. Overall this item is overpriced. Plain and simple. $59 after taxes and then another $15-$30 for wood chips to use it. Got me. ... show more
