Got this for my patio for 2 reasons. I wanted an easily cleanable mat outside for my dogs to run across before they came inside so most of the dirt gets knocked off their paws and for something easier to walk on barefoot. This has done both nicely. About once a week I hose it down to get any dirt out of it and takes little time to dry. We have also taken it to the beach as a mat to set up on. Another use this has been great at. Even if it isn't thick it keeps cooler over the hot sand. After the day is done we shake it out and fold it up.
