Description

Small Time Operator is one of the most popular business start-up guides ever. In clear, easy-to-understand language, the author covers: Getting permits and licensesHow to finance a businessCreating and using a business planChoosing and protecting a business nameDeciding whether to incorporateEstablishing a complete bookkeeping systemHiring employeesFederal, state, and local taxesBuying a business or franchiseDealing with—and avoiding—the IRSDoing business on the InternetHandling insurance, contracts, pricing, trademarks, and patents In this new edition, the book will feature a section on surviving the Global Information Grid or GIG economy. The on-demand economy, also known as the sharing economy or the gig economy, is a new and greatly expanding business model that is basically nothing more than a mobile app that connects people who need some type of service—a ride, a delivery, a plumber, a house cleaner—with individuals who provide that service. There are hundreds of thousands of newly self-employed individuals. Uber alone claims that they have 160,000 workers just in California. The great majority of these on demand workers have zero experience or knowledge about self-employment. This book will give on-demand workers everything they need to know about being self- employed. Bernard B. Kamoroff is a C.P.A. with over thirty years of experience specializing in small business. A University of California lecturer, he is the author of five books on business and taxes. • Excellent introductory book.
First my declaration - I will never write a review for a product that was given to me for free or at a reduced price, as I consider that to be a bribe that undermines objectivity and destroys the value of reviews for all customers. I wish more reviews would start with this statement. This is a well written book which takes the beginner through all the relevant aspects of book keeping and accounting for a small business. Not too detailed and not too superficial. It was an easy read though it will require re-reading as and when required. ... show more

  • You need this book
Been in business myself for a while now. I have purchased this book 3 times for the updated editions. It helped with getting started. Getting start up loans. Working on contract. Taxes. Incorporating how to and why. Anything you might need help with is in here somewhere. Easy to read. Written in a conversational style. A bit of humor peppered in it. If you do any type of business or think you might. Get this book. ... show more

  • Worth the read for first time e-commerce sellers.
With all books of this type it all really comes down to the reader taking action. If you can learn one or two things that help you with your business or project it's worth the investment. I believe you will find more then one idea that if put into action will benefit you. I hope so at least. Good Luck. If you found this helpful please click the link below. • and this book does an excellent job explaining the different types of forms
I bought this book to gain a basic understanding of how to start a business in the United States and how they are taxes etc., and this book does an excellent job explaining the different types of forms, where to find them, what to worry about, and potential risks one has when starting a business. If you are new to this field you may have to keep a pad and paper next to you and read some sections multiple times. ... show more

  • Mediocre Book
For all the reviews it sounded like a good book to help launch a business, but it was a bit plain and basic. Not a real helpful treatise on sole proprietorship.

  • Fantastic Book
In the world of HOW TOs this book is at the top of the list for new business owners. I feel more confident having read it. It got me clear on my aspects of the process and now I know better how to work with my accountant as well as I'd like to be hands-on and in the know regarding my business. GREAT BOOK. ... show more

  • A must read for anyone wanting to start a business
This is the second book by this author I have read. The other was 475 tax deductions for small business owners. This book was referenced in the other. He explained each deduction and how it may apply to your business in the 475 book. This one starts you out on the ground floor of deciding to start your own business then walks you through every possible consideration. I wish I had this one in my hand 20 years ago when I opened my small business, a sport shooting facility in central alabama. I now fully understand what I should be doing. My tax situation is now much better as I now know how to take advantage of being a business owner... that means more of the money my business makes benifits me personally. Who wouldn't want that? ... show more
