  • Misleading information on packaging
The packaging clearly shows double rails for the jaws to run on, but not the case. Resulting is a distinct uneven "wobble" and uneven pressure when tightening the jaws on something. I would return this item but it is not worth the hassle involved.....NOT RECOMMENDED.

  • Handy
I use this for small woodworking projects. While it cant hold large items or has a wider grip, for smaller projects, esp when I am sanding, this is pretty useful. It helps me get a good handle on the item I am sanding or polishing.

  • An Economical Light Vise For Detail Work
Disclosure: This was sent to me for free via the Vine program. I did not receive monetary compensation to write this review, just the product itself. Lockpicking is one of my favorite hobbies but, in truth, you do need some supplies for it other than locks and lockpicks. You CAN do without them but the hobby is just more fun when you're comfortable doing it. Holding a lock in your hand to pick it can cause hand cramps and spasms and that's just not good when your main activity is writing on a computer. So I'd been looking for an economical swivel vise for awhile and, when this popped up on Vine, I took it as a sign and put in for it. No longer would my hands be crampy from holding a weirdly shaped lock as I try to jam the cylinder open. No more would I have to take breaks from writing because my hands were twitching from the chunky padlock that destroyed my grip. I had a vise. The vise comes pre-assembled in a cardboard box with an extra set of rubber jaws and that's about it. The quality of it is sort of rough but I don't mind; it's a vise that's meant to be used, not a show piece. You don't need to do anything like sand down rough casting edges or bevel anything with a mill bastard file as most of it is just cosmetic (i.e. the paint's not even in some places or the rubber jaws don't completely fit square). What I do recommend is taking it apart and GREASING it as it comes pretty dry. You don't need to take apart the jaws of the vise or the clamp on the bottom; just putting some oil/grease onto the threads and spinning them to coat will do. I do recommend removing the screw that holds the swivel ball (and the swivel ball locking handle) and greasing in there to make the motion smooth but you can do without and just work-wear in the swivel ball until it's smooth. The jaws are good, if not strong, but they're not meant to be. I cannot repeat enough this is a VERY light duty vise. Don't go pounding on this thing with a ball peen and a sheet of metal, it CANNOT take it. Rather, use it to hold locks (like I do), or for woodworking (particularly adept for carving/mortise-ing), soldering, or anything else where one of those "extra hands" products just doesn't have the grip you need. I've found that it secures to tables steadily with good pressure and good grip and the jaws will lock tight and firm, provided only the minimal pressure needed is applied. Again, VERY light duty. Overall, this vise isn't bad. The price, clocking in at $25.99 at time of writing (9/18/22) is a fair price. You can get cheaper at discount tool stores but I find this to be a better product as the top vise is a better quality vise, being more of a mill/drill press vise style as opposed to theirs which is a benchtop vise style. Also, this vise has a slimmer profile overall and has a more positive engagement in the swivel as it utilizes a ball and cup joint where their product does not (unless you get the tabletop suction one which won't have as good a grip on your work surface). I'd say that $26 is a fair price for a fair product. I wouldn't be gifting it to anyone but it works well enough for me and I'm glad to pay the...$7 difference over the "freight from the harbor" offerings. The quality is better, the cast is better, the surface engagement is better, and the swivel is better. Would recommend. ... show more

  • Great hobby vice
I ordered this vice because I needed something like an extra pair of hands to hold my miniatures and hobby instruments. I absolutely love the ball swivel on toperiod it makes it very convenient to angle things where I need them to go without having to move the entire vice to another side of the table. The build quality is hobby level, don't expect this to hold heavy duty items. Great for an extra pair of hands. ... show more

  • Nice Light duty Vice
This is a nice light duty, portable, vice. Key word, Light duty. Took me a minute to figure it out because for the ball joint you need to lightly hand tighten the set screw first, then tighten the handle, but it tightens in the opposite way you would think. Turn it left to tighten. Comes with no instructions, or markings. Only a picture of it on the box, and a picture of it completely disassembled, which doesn't make sense or is useful. I wish the bottom screw handle had a bar on it or something because it would make it easier to tighten to the table. Its says its 3", but you would be lucky to clamp something larger than 2.5". It used it to re grip my golf clubs. So if you need something portable, and light duty, then this will work. ... show more

  • When You Need A Third Hand, Turn To This Bench Edge Vise.
This product arrived in good condition except that a very important set screw was loose in the box and fell out and could easily have gotten lost. I was lucky and found it on the floor after a 3 minute search. The box that holds the vise depicts the product along with exploded parts diagrams. There are no manufacturer or seller names or telephone numbers. And there is no Made In (country) label. The vise comes with two sets of rubber jaw covers to protect clamped items. Would be nice if the maker included an extra set screw for the pivot ball locking function. It took me about a 15 minutes to figure out on my own how to assemble and use this vise. The vise is ruggedly built with all important parts made of steel and other metal. The painted or paint dipped green finish looks to be durable. I was able to clamp the vise solidly to my work table and to mount small items in the clamping jaws of the vise. I had to play around with the ball pivot clamping screw and lock lever in order to use it effectively. The vise comes with two sets of rubber jaw covers. This vise does not work as well as other small bench top or hobby vises that I have used or own. ... show more

  • Ok, but not great for the price
This bench vise is a decent temporary solution for light work. I found that the cast metal was ok, but not of the greatest quality. The clamping mechanism was similar - it works, but not what I'd consider a shop-quality grade of materials, and tolerances would need to be much tighter to make me very happy with it. I do like that it's portable and small in size, because sometimes that's all I need. Since I don't use this on a regular basis, it's ok for my use, though if you're looking for something that you'll be using all the time, I'd recommend looking to something a bit higher quality. ... show more
