  • Not cheap, but superior construction
Style Name: Batting Cage
Right off the bat (pardon the pun), I did NOT want to spend this much money. But, the more I looked the more clear the decision became. Most other options rely on glorified tent poles and tie outs. This frame is all metal, interconnected, no need for guide wires, etc. Installation was straightforward and easy. I did it by myself but a second pair of hands wouldn’t hurt. As long as the metal lasts without rusting out (no issues after about a year), I will be completely satisfied. You can either go cheap and hope it lasts a season, or take the plunge and buy this one. If you have a kid serious about baseball, and anticipate multiple seasons of use, go this route. ... show more

  • 25 mph wind broke mine within 2 weeks, warranty doesn't apply
Style Name: Batting Cage
When looking at batting cages for my 2 young boys, I found this one and at first was a little hesitant due to the higher than average cost. However, after reviewing the marketing materials, pointing out how this cage is heavy duty and twice the weight of their competitors I thought it was worth paying a bit more for a durable structure with a 3 year warranty on the frame. When I put together the frame I was impressed at easy it was to put together and the heft of various parts. Imagine my disappointment when two weeks after setting up the cage I found it laying on ground with several bent frame pieces as a result of a windy day. While a little disappointed that we would have to delay our batting practice as the season was just getting underway, I figured well at least it shouldn’t be a problem getting Skywalker to replace the parts since it’s under warranty and I should be back in business within a week. So I contacted Skywalker support and was sent a form to fill out. After completing the form and sending pictures of the damage, I was shocked to hear my request for the four replacement parts was denied. I paid almost $1,000 for a heavy duty batting cage that is blown over and damaged by a 25 mph wind only 2 weeks after setting it up, well within the time period to return the item and they are denying me $108 worth of parts. Why? It turns out that if you read the fine print of the warranty, Skywalker doesn’t warranty against wind damage. However, if you read their ad for this product, they boast that “ Ropes and wires are not required to hold up the cage and anchors are included for the feet to support against strong winds.” There is no mention in their advertising that they don’t warranty against wind damage. It wasn’t until I had an issue that I find out that they won’t honor there warranty against wind damage. I did find that they do inform you of this in the manual receive on page 18, but who reads the manual before making a decision on a purchase. So, take this into consideration if your like me and think it’s worth paying more for a ‘heavy duty’ batting cage. I have a Skywalker Trampoline that has held up very well over the past 4 years, so I thought this was a company that I could trust. However, after appealing there denial for parts for a structure that fell down after 2 weeks in moderate wind, I realized much to my chagrin that I was my trust was misplaced. For the two weeks that it was up, I have to say it was great. It’s a nice size and worked great. If you decided to go ahead and pay extra for this cage, I would ignore there claim that ‘Ropes and wires are not required to hold up the cage’. After purchasing the new parts to replace my broken ones, I will be setting a complex setup of cables and anchors to ensure the next time there is a little wind my new cage doesn’t crash to the ground. Don’t be foolish like me and buy into the thought process that paying hundreds more for a heavy duty cage and a long warranty mean anything. ... show more

  • Good budget cage but needs more hardware to make it great!
Style Name: Batting Cage
To be honest, I am an engineer so there aren't very many products like this that would ever meet my expectations out of the box. I just went through the set up of this cage over the weekend. It is very easy to set up and two people are definitely needed. The frame itself consists multiple 3-4' pieces connected by bolts or buttons for the side rails. Once set up, the overall length from end of foot to end of foot is 43.5' and 15' Wide and 10' Tall. The net is 12' Wide by 40' Long. It is pretty much the cheapest net you can get and I expect it may only last me about one off season. I'm okay with that as I bought this system for the ability to move in the future and for the winters. It is connected by 8 carabiners (2 ea at the top of each frame section). This creates terrible sage between the sections and hangs poorly to provide only about 8' of width and 35' of length. So here comes the modifications to make it great... The first step is to thread a wire through all 8 eye loops with decent tension so that you can place 4 more carabiners in each section to remove a ton of the sag in the top of the net. Zip tie the top ends on the net to the end cross bars as well which eliminates the middle sag. Next is the bottom of the net. Since the net is so light, any ball hit at it will allow the ball to escape under the net. I weaved a 100' chain through the bottom of the net that provides enough weight so that balls won't escape. you can also stake down the corners of the net and chain to maximize the footprint. At each leg of the frame we used heavy duty zip ties to pull the net back but not all the way to the poles so the net can still slow balls down before hitting the frame. Think about a door...We cut in a door in the back corner of the net near the batters box. Thread rope through the adjacent netting to make it clear where the door is. I have ordered pole protection padding in hopes to lengthen the life of the frame and the cross bars as they are bound to be smacked over and over. With all of these modifications, we are super happy with the size and room we have to hit. ... show more

  • Early impressions are imoressive
Style Name: Batting Cage
We vacillated between this and the one that’s $200 less and I’m the end, we chose to spend more given the presumed sturdiness of the sky Walker (shipping weight of ~350 vs ~150 of the cheaper one). My 14 y/o son and I took about 1.5 hours to out it together. Extremely easy to assemble, just a lot to do which is why it took so much time. The e end product looks and feels great. We’ve not been able to use it yet but something will need to be added to the bottom of the nets to prevent balls from slipping through as the net length doesn’t allow for too much “puddling” (ie, only a bit of net droops on the ground so low hit balls will easily roll out of the cage). I’ll update after a few months given we’re in AZ and the biggest concern is the AZ heat. ... show more
