  • Six months is not too early! So fun and has a great sound, coming from a music teacher!
I know that other reviewers said that they did not agree that this toy would be good for children as young as six months old, but I disagree!! Even though my daughter could not use the accordion herself when she was six months old, she absolutely loved hearing me play with the accordion and the different sounds it made. Any early exposure to music and different kinds of live instruments is helpful, even if children cannot physically use the instruments themselves. My daughter started experiencing live music and the concept of instruments making different sounds at a very early age which is great for brain development! Already recognizing the look and sound of this accordion made it even more fun when she was actually able to play it herself. If you found this review to be helpful, I would appreciate a helpful vote so I know to review more products like this in the future! ... show more

  • Not as fun for 6mo babies
I typically really enjoy Skip Hop products, and I will preface by saying that perhaps this will be better enjoyed for older kids, but the age appropriateness at "6+mo" seems a bit off. The colors are bright and pleasant as with all Skip Hop products, so babies and kids are attracted at first glance. However, at 6mo, babies seemed to only be able to play with the beads, and some babies could not hold the toy in whole let alone at the two handles to play as an instrument. Even for coordinated 1yo, it takes some effort to pull on the accordion to play and seems best enjoyed with some assistance. The accordion does have a very whimsical sound, producing sounds when pulling, a different tone when pushing together. While it does seem durable for months and years of enjoyment, I suspect it is better enjoyed by older babies/toddlers. ... show more

  • Great Toy, but not for the recommended age group
We found this toy in a Barnes & Noble and ordered it on Amazon as it was cheaper. Our 2 1/2 year old toddler led us on a parade through the store with it. We love this toy because our child has poor muscle tone, and it really gets her to work out her arms in a way most toys do not compel her to. Because it's producing a musical tone, there's an immediate gratification for the physical effort, and the harder she pulls or pushes, the louder it is. But there is no way that an infant could use this thing. ... show more

  • It’s ok
My 7-month-old likes the accordion noise (which is fairly basic but funny to her) but I have to “work” the toy for her, she doesn’t have the strength yet to pull the handles out and in. And she’s normal developmentally, with good hand-eye coordination. If I put the accordion in her playpen she might bang it around but otherwise ignore it. Maybe when she’s a bit older she will be able to be hands-on with the toy more. ... show more

  • Let me say that usually I love Skip Hop products
Let me say that usually I love Skip Hop products. I usually purchase them through Amazon or my local retailer (it's always nice to support local retailers as well). I do have to say that Skip Hop makes it very easy for defective returns. My real issue is with anything with the Hedgehog. We bought both the Hedgehog accordion and the Hedgehog click clack mirror and noticed the paint was coming off the face. My baby is teething and this is an infant toy so it's only natural she would chew on the toys. Problem is the paint was scratching off as she was doing it! Please be careful with these toys and double check that your child isn't doing the same. I'll let you know that the click clack toy was something we only had for 2 weeks and the accordion for a month so it wasn't anything that was just normal wear and tear. ... show more

  • Baby loves this
I got this for my 7-month old and she loves it. She is still to small to be able to work it like an accordion but when I play it for her she immediately starts to smile and do her wiggling baby dance. Even though she can't make music with it yet she likes to hold it and chew on the small rings attached to it. I have a bunch of toys in a basket on the floor for her, and this is one of the toys she'll go rooting through the basket to find. ... show more

  • We only had it like a month
The piece inside broke off. Then, it no longer played music. This could be a chronic problem for this toy. Why should the inside be breaking? My children are not rough on toys at all! We only had it like a month.

  • Stopped making sound after just a few uses
Cute, but after just a few weeks it stopped making sound. This is not the first time I have had issues with products by this company. Another product was recalled and I never received the replacement part even after registering online for it. This toy had great potential but the quality just isn’t there. It should have lasted more than just a few weeks with very occasional use. ... show more
