I should have bought this a long time ago! My last sander was a square and this round one is SO much better! It uses way less sand paper and is much more efficient!!!! GREAT purchase! The only thing is that it does not come with a carrying bag but I just used the one from my old sander.

I have used this little sander to completely redo my truck. I have used it to sand the entire body down for painting, and then used it to scuff and buff the finished coat. It has done great!! Plenty strong enough to take the paint down to the bare metal, but controllable enough to finish sand paint. Highly recommend. ... show more

I'm updating my review now that I have found the problem, and fixed it. What was the problem? The screw that attaches the bearing assembly to the motor shaft needed to be cranked down very tight. When you think it's tight enough, crank a little harder. (Just be careful to not screw up the phillips head) The sander is working beautifully again. Combined with 3M's Xtract Cubitron sanding mesh disc, and a shop vac, dust is a non issue. The reason for only 4 stars, is the aggravating support line, and no email contact option. This was a great sander the few times I've used it, for maybe a total of 6 hours. Today, I needed to do some sanding, and it stops spinning as soon as I touch the wood. I've opened it up, but can't identify the issue. There was dust under the pad, but very little inside the housing. Everything else looks good. Called the Customer Service number. Waiting on hold is no big deal, but EVERY 10 SECONDS, I'm told that I'm on hold, and they'll get to me as soon as possible. After 15 minutes of this, I couldn't take it anymore. There's no email address for contact. ... show more

The SKIL Variable Speed 5” SR211601 Random Orbital Sander is my first orbital sander and now my favorite sander. I will confess that I don't use the "Cyclonic Dust Box". I just wear a mask and point the dust port away from me since I work outside. I find emptying little dust collectors rather annoying, but it's the thought that counts. I've been using the STUHAD 165 piece discs and find they grip the bottom of the sander securely. Disc changes on the SKIL are quick and easy. Should have bought one a long time ago. ... show more

A really like my SKIL 5" Random Orbital Sander! I had just ONE small job which I didn't think warranted buying a sander, but this one was affordable enough that I bought it. I am refinishing weathered porch benches. It has been a chore up until the sanding stage. The process included a thorough cleaning with a wood cleaner; patching a small hole with wood fill; hand sanding (only to find this did not remove varnish); applying varnish remover then scraping with a scraper. Finally the last step... sanding with my new SKIL sander! This took a few hours of patience as well, but I could easily see the difference each pass with the sander made, so it was rewarding work.
