  • Excellent clean 6.5" boomy stock upgrade in EV, even though frequency Hz-kHz specs differ.
Size: 6.5 Inch - 4 Ohm
Paired with a subwoofer these little woofers add some good boom for the buck. Have been driving for a few weeks now with no issues, no distortion and no popping. Nice clarity, not super bass heavy if run on their own, but definitely enhance bass response when added along side a subwoofer. I compared them to some 6.5" coaxial ferrite magnet woofers and the neodymium magnets are certainly louder without sounding muddy. How well your doors and air space are sealed also makes a difference. I recently purchased a new 2023 KIA Niro EV because I liked how smooth and quiet it drives, it has the same body style and shares many of the same components as the 2023 PHEV, and HEV. There is a premium edition with Harmon Kardon audio + subwoofer and a bunch of extras if you've got the money for it, I test drove one and it sounded awesome. I opted for the base model with stock audio and no subwoofer to stick within my budget. Of course the stock speakers are garbage by comparison, even in a new vehicle, same goes with most cars, it's amazing how bad stock speakers can actually be. NOTE: Box and printed manual say 172 Hz 93.6 dB, Skar website and Amazon say 100 Hz 92.6 dB. I originally bought a pair of 6.5" inch DS18 bullets with huge ferrite magnets for the front doors to go along with the Soundstream tweeters I installed in the corners and a powered Kenwood sub I installed in the boot. Unfortunately with the windows down the DS18 magnets ended up being just slightly too big without modifying or making a deeper mounting bracket. So back to scouring for a set of speakers with good specs that would fit. Didn't really need to go shallow mount utilizing a mounting bracket, more so needed a smaller magnet diameter to avoid hitting the window glass edge and other backing components in the door. Unfortunately a lot of companies don't supply those specs so I was often guessing based on pictures. Then I started looking at Neodymium magnets, which by comparison almost all are much smaller in diameter and depth. Neodymium are touted as being more responsive than most big ferrite magnets while occupying a much smaller footprint. I also didn't want to go coaxial in the front doors since I already had super nice tweeters installed and no external DSP other than the stock stereo EQ for tuning. I narrowed my choices down to neodymium Skar, CT Audio, and Timpano 6.5" ... I went with the Skar because reviews were solid and they had the lowest frequency response Hz specs at 100 Hz versus 150 Hz for the others. I knew it wasn't going to boom or rumble like a sub, but I did want to get as much bass out of them as possible to fill up the audio headroom and take some strain off my powered sub. On delivery I immediately noticed the Skar box said the frequency was 172 Hz with 93.6 dB sensitivity !! What?! The paper manual it came with said the same thing. I was about to send them back. The Skar website and Amazon say 100 Hz with 92.6 dB, big difference losing 72 Hz in the lows while gaining 1 dB of sensitivity. Also comes with a big sticker that doesn't fit in the box so it's folded. I went ahead and installed the Skar's and figured if they didn't sound good I would send them back. Thankfully I'll be keeping them and my search is over! I don't know if the specs are wrong or if something changed in manufacturing at some point, but these compact 6.5" neodymiums sound excellent. I mostly listen to a wide variety of electronic music + a bunch of more acoustic and traditional genres so there's no shortage of audible bandwidth. I immediately noticed the more hard hitting bass frequencies and midrange were much fuller and heavier, at 100 Hz - 8,000 kHz they mix well my tweeters which are rated 5,000 kHz to 25,000 kHz. Running with my powered sub definitely added some low end boom and I was able to back my subwoofer off by about 15% volume. I can run the stock EQ flat with +1 on the highs for the tweeters. OVERALL - Definitely increased the audible headroom and clarity with virtually zero listening ear fatigue, which is important so I'm less likely to get permanent hearing damage. Amazing the difference between 35-50 watts of muddy muffled or harsh audio bandwidth versus full dynamic headroom... no ear headaches or ringing. I don't know which specs are wrong, but I'm thinking the 100 Hz rating is more accurate and at 92.6 dB or 93.5 dB at 4 ohms. These little 6.5" mid bass speakers certainly add a significant amount of extra volume. Great upgrade for any stock stereo. ... show more

  • The NPX65's are a Definite Upgrade
Size: 6.5 Inch - 4 Ohm
I decided to replace my Kicker KS Series 6.5" 2-way front door speakers with a set of speakers that could handle the 125rms that my Rockford Fosgate 4-channel amp produces at 4ohm. The Kicker KS Series doesn't handle their rated power. They were also mounted low on the door, which isn't an optimal position for highs. I had to turn the gains way down and the HPF to 120 hz just to keep the Kickers from distorting and popping. I started searching for a decent priced set of components and didn't really want to deal with finding a mounting position for a bulky external crossover. It was also looking pricy for a set of components rated over 100rms. I kept seeing Skar Audio, but didn't really look at Skar due to the low prices. Several YouTube videos later I purchased the Skar TWS-01 flush mount 1" Tweeters with bass blockers and two NPX65's. They are well constructed and have a good look. I installed the speakers a month ago and they are broken-in. The NPX65's take the 125rms easily compared to the Kicker KS Series. There is really no comparison in the mid-bass response and vocals. I raised my gains to just under half and turned the HPF down to 90hz and they are loud and clean sounding. Nice mid woofer response. I have a separate amp and sub for the lows. The NPX65's fill in perfectly for the mids. The Skar TWS-01 tweeters sound absolutely great as well. They are clean, crisp, and loud. They compliment the NPX65 as a component set perfectly. Highly recommended! ... show more

  • Super loud
Size: 6.5 Inch - 4 Ohm
I'm running these speakers in 2 of my vehicles. 1 pair in the front doors of my 2000 Silverado with a pair of Focal tweeters and a crossover, and another pair in the front doors of my 17 chevy cruze with some crappy tweeters and a crossover. They made such a difference in my truck in particular. The door speakers are amped in both vehicles. Both vehicles have subs too but what I really like about these speakers is that I can turn the subs down so they aren't playing, and just hear crystal clear mids and highs. Obviously these speakers are for the mids, but man do they sound good. I can feel the snare drum hit in some songs with these things. Be sure to set your crossovers right on your stereo and amp of course, these things don't handle a lot of bass, but if you're buying these you should know that by now. I do installs on the side for extra cash, and if when I need to recommend a good set of midrange drivers, these are my first choice. ... show more

  • Invredible bang-for-buck woofer
Size: 10 Inch - 4 Ohm
I cannot get over how much of a giant step up these $55 10" woofers were over the 6x9 Rockford-Fosgate Primes that I had in my rear doors. The sound quality, clarity, and accuracy is absolutely excellent. I mounted these with some door metal modification into the lower half of my Silverado rear half-doors. The doors are thoroughly sound-deadened. They are being run through a two-way Audiopipe crossover, with my Infinity Reference 4x6 at the top of the door handling the upper frequencies. The whole combination sounds amazing. I hear details in my music that I never heard before; it's like I'm hearing the entire mix for the first time. The bass is a big step up from the 6x9s, but it is woofer, not SUBwoofer bass. It does, however, produce lower tones in the 30 HZ range. If you adjust your EQ at 30 Hz, you can hear the difference. I have faded the sound +5 dB to this rear setup, as my front setup is currently a far-inferior Infinity Reference 6.5" component 2-way setup. It cannot compete with the rear combo. I am running a sub-$200 Pioneer double din head unit with no external amp. I absolutely LOVE the way it sounds right now. I can't wait to do an upgrade to the front with 6.5 or 8" Skar audio subwoofers in place of the weak Infinity Reference woofers. On and on it goes. ... show more
