  • You get what you pay for...
I bought this bike in the middle of the pandemic, Sep 2020, when it was really hard to get bikes at a reasonable price. I knew, given the price, that I was not buying top quality. I know how to build bikes and index the gears. I did not have great expectations, just wanted a bike I could ride around the city and take on a trail from time to time. I am also 5' 8" and weight 158lb, so the size was right. Let's make this clear: this is a cheap bike and has cheap components. Do not expect this bike to behave like a $700+ Specialized, because it will not. On top of that, you really need to either know or be ready to learn how to build and maintain a bike if you buy it. Think of it more of a kit than a ready to ride bike. The "85% assembled" is true, but the leftover 15% is the more complex job: ensure everything is in order and tight, adjust the disk brakes, and index the gears. If you don't want to do that, better go to a good bike shop and pay more for a ready-to-ride bike. I was lucky and the bike came in pretty good shape. The front disk brake rotor was very slightly bent but I was able to fix it. The bike is overall light, which I like. The gears shift pretty well, but I spent quite a bit of time indexing. Remember that after indexing and adjusting the breaks with the new bike, you will have to repeat the process 3-4 weeks later, because the cables give. This is standard in any new bike. The 9 gear freewheel may be a bit more hassle than it is worth. A traditional 7 gear one is simpler. I also spent some time with the breaks because of the slightly bent front rotor. I changed the pedals, the ones with the bike were slippery when wet. The bike rides well and smooth in the city and handles dirt trails ok. In singletracks, the front fork shows how cheap it is. You can tell the cheapness because you can twist the fork by holding the front wheel between your legs and turning the handlebars. The suspension clunks every time it comes back when you are going downhill hard over typical singletrack bumps. I have adjusted the preload but even at my limited weight, the clunking noise is assured. When it breaks, I will buy a better front fork. That is a $100 extra cost right there, but it will probably take a while before I have to as I do not do that many singletracks. Summary: if you know how to build and maintain a bike, and you only want it for city/dirt trail riding, this is not a bad buy - provided you get the bike delivered in good shape. But, if you do not know or want to maintain a bike, it will be cheaper to buy one from a good bike store. You will end paying more but will be way more satisfied. ... show more

  • Front tire won't rotate once assembled - tight brake and bent caliper
*** Second Updated Review*** After communicating with Sirdar, they sent me an entirely new bike. I'm guessing this is because the new part (brake caliper) and the repair (paid here at a bike shop) would have been pretty expensive. I assembled the bike and this one did not have the problem. I've since ridden the bike (around 10 miles) and it seems to work well. The company was easy to communicate with once we could speak by email. The amazon communication system is terrible as it does not allow creating threads with previous replies embedded, making conversation difficult. ***Updated Review*** Still one star. I figured out how to adjust the brake so that I could open the calipers. When i did this, the wheel was looser, but it was still sticking in the brake. I then realized that the brake was out of alignment. The picture shows that one of the washers is squished and that the caliper is not aligned with the rest of the wheel holder assembly. When the wheel is on (next picture) the disk rubs up against the caliper assembly. I'm unable to unscrew these bolts to realign the caliper because the bold appears to be bent. This appears to have been done during manufacturing and not during shipping since it would have taken a lot of force during assembly of the caliper to twist in this way. I'll be contacting the company and will update my review accordingly if they respond favorably and help me out. *original review* After following the instructions to the letter (though the written instructions were not very clear) and watching the video a couple dozen times, I tried multiple times to get the front tire on. The video, of course, makes it look so easy. I managed to get it on only to realize that the wheel barely rotates because the disc brake is too tight. I loosened it as far at it will go (i tried every screw on the disc break assembly) and it the tire still barely moved. The video indicates that there is some sort of black insert to remove from the brake before use, but I can't see anything on mine that looks that it should be taken off. I took the tire off and tried multiple times to put it back on, and it never easily slid on without having the disc in the break being really tight. There is a lot of information about the breaks in the instructions, but nothing about loosening them because they are too tight. I did find something rather humorous in the instructions, though, indicating that the bike should be assembled by a professional (that is dropped in randomly at the top of a page) even though the bike is touted as one that can be assembled at home with the help of a 3 minute video where everything clearly slides together perfectly. I'm not what I would call "handy", but I'm not completely lost with tools either. I've assembled the rest of the bike without a problem. I've assembled other things easily at home like a snow blower and countless toys for the kids, so I was surprised that a bike that cost this much that was so professionally packed and seemingly of high quality would have something so clearly wrong with it while lacking clear instructions for assembly. I'll revise this review if I figure it out later of if it was my fault for doing something wrong, but for now, I can't ride it after 2 hours of struggling with the assembly, so it'll get one star. ... show more
