    • Not for beginners....at all
I needed a basic machine, this one was touted as being a nice simple one. Caution: This machine is not for people who are not familiar with a sewing machine, maybe a middle level user. I have only been able to get it to do what I want two or three times out of ten uses. Cons: First, no manual, I had to spend about $20.00 to buy one. Yes, it is online, but who wants to have a laptop next to a sewing machine? Tried that a couple of times, very frustrating. Second, the controls and setting are in a light gray or pastel color, so with the help of a magnifying glass and a flashlight, you can almost get what you want. Almost what you want, note the word "almost" but you end up wasting things when you have the wrong stitch and have to throw things out. Third, the foot pedal is very cheap, lightweight plastic and flops around. Plus the cord is too short. It is often upside down or on its edge due to a short cord Fourth The needle threader is quite hard to use unless you have elf fingers. It takes maybe ten times to finally get it to work. Again, a flashlight is helpful to see the thread coming out of the needle, and then you need another needle or tweezers to pull it through. Fifth, the light is one of those dim LED lights. so not all that effective. You really need a lamp behind the machine so you can see what you are doing. Sixth, the little diagrams showing you where the thread is to go requires a manual for reference... remember that you have to buy the manual before you can even thread the machine. Seventh, the bobbin is a very small little piece, again you need elf fingers to work with it. The casing cover, just like the foot pedal, is cheap plastic, which also means easy to break. Pro: Once you figure out(with a manual) how to thread a bobbin, that works fine. Getting the tiny bobbin into the tiny slot is another story.     • Easy to use for novice sewers
UPDATE: Singer was able to talk me through the process to fix it over the phone. It turns out the bobbin case had just popped out of place, which is an easy fix. I'm now a little embarrassed they told me to return the first one based on that issue alone. While I waited to hear back from Amazon (still no response, for what it's worth), I borrowed a neighbor's machine. This one is MUCH easier to use. The drop-in bobbin is a snap (but then again, the bobbin case can easily move out of place if there are any thread tangles. The kind ladies at Singer gave me pointers on verifying the thread tension to avoid this mishap.) Very easy to use, but the product broke mid-project, and now my replacement machine has broken. Since it was still under warranty, Singer suggested I just get a replacement each time. Hoping third time is a charm. ... show more

It is a light machine but haven't not so light that I've noticed it walking while in use. I don't need much in a sewing machine but like having the different stitch options available as well as the button holer. I do really like the threader, it's great to have as my eyes get older. The light is also very helpful. Easy access to the bobber. I really like the clear cover so you can see how much thread you have left on the bobber too. I would buy again and reccomend this sewing machine to others who don't require a heavy use, heavy-duty sewing machine ... show more

This is my first sewing machine and I bought it spontaneously. I have no regrets being that Singer makes this machine super easy to use even if you’ve never touched a machine in your life. They have diagrams on how to thread the top thread and bobbin right on the machine. If you need more help, the quick start guide helps you out even more. I really like the LED light above the needle so you can see what you are doing. It also comes with a light fabric cover for your machine to prevent dust and my curious cat from playing with it... My only complaint would be that the cord from the machine to the foot peddle is a little short but it’s really not a big deal at all. ... show more

Love this sewing machine! It was sooo easy to set up. As a beginner, i'm so glad I went with the drop in bobbin feature. The pink and grey guides on the top of the machine make it so easy to thread the machine and wind up a bobbin. I was so intimidated at first for learning to sew just because other machines make it look so hard to set up but this machine was great. The only downside I've noticed so far is that the automatic needle threading feature is a little hard to use and sometimes it doesn't work when I let go. I finally figured out there's a little metal hook that comes through the needle hole that you need to get the thread under and then the thread will easy go through the needle. ... show more
