A really exceptional fish finder. Easy setup, no problems with the installation, just followed the setup wizard. Operation is intuitive and makes sense. Incredible resolution and detail. This is my first experience with side scan feature, but it is a very impressive feature, and resolution was awesome. All hardware, instructions, and C-Map came in nice packaging. System was super easy to install and get up and running. Very intuitive and good instructions to follow. Screen works well and is bright enough on sunny days.

This unit is basically replacing the Simrad Go units. However, for the price, the direct competitor would be the Raymarine Axiom+ which in retrospect is what I wish I had purchased. What is in this system works great except for the chartplotting. apps change quickly, little to no lag, connectivity is good. However, with modern tech, it seems like this should be table stakes. This unit currently does not allow you to utilize any other plotting software other than C-MAP which is an inferior product in so many ways. Every other unit out there provides the basic ability to have at least a couple choices of mapping software, this is almost stupid that they lock you in. What to get the latest in fishing mapping software like CMOR? Nope, not available with this. I don't see how this can be considered a serious product until they change this. As such, it should be half the price of what I paid; how do I get my money back, so no can do. Other features that should be basic with modern tech and is included on Axiom is screen mirroring. It has hotspot and wifi tech in the device; big deal, the companion app is almost worthless and provides no screen mirroring. forcing you to purchase additional MFDs instead of allowing an easy solution. The only reason I purchased this over the Axiom is that this will conceivably be better able to connect to a trolling motor in the future; a feature lacking on the Axiom because of its inability to negotiate with trolling motor companies. However, with the Simrad NSX, even this feature is not yet available; I'm not sure that this one feature makes up for the shortcomings of the NSX; I thought it would for me but now I just regret purchasing this expensive product with glaring holes. I will revise my review if Simrad wakes up and makes other mapping available; however, I'm not holding my breath. I called their customer service and they said there are no current plans to upgrade and the current map isn't really that bad. At this price I don't want "not that bad" it should be fantastic and if its not, I should be able to try something else. Customers want choices above everything else, you would think product companies would know that by now but they never learn. At the end of the day, if you have this amount of money, purchase an Axiom instead.

Now that this unit is installed, the chart function stays stuck on "Loading". Simrad is completely clueless and blames C-Map. C-Map is internet only, there is no tech support. So until I figure out what the problem is on my own, I have no charting. SImrad recommends a factory reset and updating the card which I have done twice now. Thanks a lot Simrad. This was a lot of money for zero support. Update: after 100 factory resets with the chart card inserted, the unit finally listed it in the chart sources. Now it has a software update alert that will not clear. In the software update menu it says all devices are up to date. The unit will not recognize multiple different SD cards containing g the update from SIMRAD’s site. It’s running 1.3.xxx and the update is 1.9.216 so clearly it is not updated but won’t let me do it. And SIMRAD is closed no matter when I call them. Shameful.

The simrad unit packs a powerful punch and made for an easy upgrade. Easy to use and intuitive functions as I move through the options. Utilizing the split screen option with a great chart on one side while sonar showing me the schools of bait on the other! Touch screen is great to drop in a waypoint quickly! The radar integration was critical to have and has just enhanced my days at sea! -Ben

All the Simrad displays with the NEON software are trash. The only current Simrad products that use the far superior older software are the NSO line of displays, and those are said to be transitioning to NEON soon. The software is just plain junk. Hard to use, many former features not implemented. I am a marine installer and Simrad was doing fine up until their choice to develop a new “advanced” operating system. Common features found on their old devices as well as all the competing devices from other brands are missing with this software. The displays feel unresponsive and hard to navigate. Menus and layout are unintuitive to the max. Often you can’t find a standard option you are looking for BECAUSE IT DOESN’T EXIST! Please AVOID new Simrad gear until they get their act together.
