I was replacing a wired 3 x mirror and wanted to use the existing electrical box/switch already in place next to my vanity. I tried the rechargeable version of this mirror and was really impressed. Although my old mirror is a Brot mirror which is often considered to be the absolute best, I found the light quality of the simplehuman to be vastly superior. I ordered a new Brot in the same magnification as the simplehuman and did a side-by-side comparison when it arrived. The clarity of the simplehuman matched the Brot but the quality of the light was multiples of the Brot. After using the simplehuman for a few weeks, I felt like I needed a flashlight every time I went to the Brot to apply makeup. I was very happy to find this wired version of the simplehuman mirror and happily got rid of the wall-mount Brot. The motion sensor is thoughtfully placed on the bottom of the mirror which makes great sense for a wall-mount as everyone will be able to trigger it regardless of height. The light is perfect for applying makeup and the clarity is great. Yes, the light sometimes shuts off when I don't want it to do so but I just swivel back to the mirror and it turns back on so it is not a problem. This mirror is great! ... show more

UPDATE: I returned the first mirror thru Amazon and was sent a replacement. The second unit worked as intended. And the vendor customer service did respond after a few days and offered to repair\replace the item (which I had already done thru Amazon). So everyting worked out in the end. My wife is happy with her mirror. (It has only been up for a day, so fingers crossed nothing else goes wrong.) Its just a bit frustrating to discover the product you just hardwired and mounted on your wall is defective right out of the box. It was also considerably more expensive than other comparable mirrors. And the customer service wasn't that great. But to be fair, I'm upgrading this review to 3 stars. Original Post: I bought the wall-mount, hard-wired version of this product. So I was particularly frustrated to learn I had installed a defective product on my bathroom wall. The light does not turn on as advertised. You have to actually touch the sensor to get the light to come on. Then the light turns back off within 3 secs. I bought this for my wife for Christmas. She tried to be a good sport, but she had to physically tap the mirror every three seconds to keep the light on. Even she gave up eventually. I submitted a request for support to the simple human website. After a couple of days, I received a boilerplate "try turning it off then on" and "try cleaning the sensor" from Albert at simple human. When I responded that it stil didn't work, there was no response after that. It was very disappointing to receive such horrible customer support. At his point, I will never buy another simple human product again. I'm returning this total piece of junk and shopping for a new mirror. ... show more

Large mirror that was easy to install. Wife loves the size and bright illumination (Best she's ever had, she says). No problems with auto on/off feature. Works perfectly. I love the fact that I don't have to recharge it or change batteries. One word of caution, if you are not handy or not familiar with local code, have an electrician install it. UPDATE: Just noticed Mark Hartman's 3 star review (03/13/16) about using an "old work" junction box. He is right about the tabs peeking out slightly. However, in my case they are not obvious to the casual observer and no one has mentioned that - especially my critical wife. Suppose I should downgrade this to 4.5 stars for this design defect - still rounds up to 5. Recommendation to SimpleHuman - It occurs to me that this item was designed by someone who does not live in the US (and whose country does not require a j-box for installation. This could easily be remedied with a small design adjustment to the backing plate to hide the tabs. ... show more

    • Beautiful Product - Infuriating Install Experience

After looking at a lot of different mirrors on Amazon I opted to go "premium" and spend 3-4x more on this hard wired branded version vs many of the generic alternatives. On the one hand, the final product is very nice, eventually. On the other hand, for the money, the installation process is absolutely terrible, unforgiving, and just plain wrong in many aspects. I had seen a few reviews mentioning this before purchasing, but honestly assumed the installer just didn't know what they were doing. Wrong-O! First issue - Unlike all my other vanity lamps, the mounting plate has only a few degrees of rotation to level the mirror. This means your ROUND junction box has to be installed at a very specific orientation first. I had to remove mine and rotate it to compensate which was finicky to get "just right". Second issue - The instructions actually suggest just screwing the mounting plate directly to the wall without a junction box behind it. I suspect this is a carry over mistake from their other battery powered version as I can't imagine it would be code compliant this way when connected to AC. Third issue - Once the mounting plate is installed, there is ZERO space between the mirror itself and the bracket to make the wiring connections. Instead you have to wire it up first behind the bracket, then install that mounting plate, then the mirror. Again this is counter to the instructions. Fourth issue and most annoyingly - Despite my wall being a standard 1/2" drywall with a standard 4" round junction box, the mounting bracket left the mirror hanging ~1/4" off my wall surface with a big gap around. See photo. I ended up having to remove everything, chisel off a 1/4" of the stud to partially recess the junction box, and redo everything. Again, because each step leaves no margin for error, it took me about 4-5 tries before getting everything nice and flush. I reached out to Customer Service who didn't say much beyond "From the images provided, it appears that the wiring has been installed correctly." Honestly for $200 I expected a better experience, not just in end use, but in the install and support process as well. ... show more

Replaced a hardwired makeup mirror that had a bad elbow that was constantly coming apart and was literally falling off the wall. I tried one other mirror before I found this one but the lighting wasn't great and the mirror seemed really. This one is perfect! Made well, moves smoothly, lights beautifully and automatically when you walk up to it! The mirror is nice and big too. The arm extension has a seamless in and out motion so I won't have to worry about the swiveling elbow breaking. I really do love this mirror. ... show more

I purchased the hardwired version of this mirror as a gift for my wife just over 5 years ago. She loved this mirror until a few months after the 5-year warranty expired. At that point, the head swivel joint broke and will no longer hold the mirror tilted up - it just flops down. Several other reviewers have had this same experience. I took apart the joint and found the entire assembly is essentially plastic, which had cracked in three different locations, rendering it inoperable. If you think amortizing a $200 mirror over 5 years is a good investment, this is the mirror for you! I, however, expected more for my money. I contacted the company and they responded there was nothing they could do beyond offering me a 20% discount on a replacement. I have really liked my various SimpleHuman products, but this is the last one I will ever be buying! ... show more

The quality and appearance of this fixture are excellent. The auto-lighting feature is very useful. The installation was very difficult (Hard-wired) and took two people to accomplish. Now that it is installed, it works fine.
