  • Woks well, advanced Engineering, may have short life, weird warranty
Color: Polished Size: 9 oz. Rechargeable
I purchased this item for a new bathroom decor. It worked well and was reliable. It lasted ten months of being used once a day, so after about 300 uses and a few battery charges it completely failed. A forensic failure analysis suggested that the internally protected battery or its electronic controller( inside the battery) failed. The rest of the unit seems to be fully functional but cannot be repaired and assembled with a new battery. Just more hardware to go into a landfill after a very short life. I requested warranty coverage and had to jump through hoops, take a photo of the dispenser with handwritten note, and upload to their website. Many people cannot do that! After the ridiculous part, where no human interaction is possible without the runaround, they immediately approved a replacement. They sent a series of very professional email messages and quickly shipped a better unit with several improvements. It works great, but the messages mentioned that the replacement unit does NOT have a warranty. My internal examination of the failed unit revealed interesting facts. The unit is not repairable in any way. It cannot be disassembled without breaking adhesive bonds and destruction of the enclosure. It has an impressive level of sophisticated Engineering inside, for both electrical and mechanical design. Many features are clearly intended to solve the design mistakes of previous versions, which explains the vast number of failures reported in the reviews. The features I admired were the pump mechansim, the feed tube, and the many intricate seals and gaskets at points of entry to prevent water intrusion and corrosion. In particular, even areas of the circuit board were protected by conformal coating, an advanced method to protect high reliability equipment. It did the job, but these efforts are doomed to fail if the Engineers don't protect all the things that corrode. Just miss one tiny part, and you have sold tens of thousands of soap dispensers that won't last long enough to celebrate a first birthday. Summary: This is not a Naval MILITARY hermetically sealed product designed to survive for years in a humid environment. It is the best that can be done at low cost. Humidity will penetrate eventually, and cause corrosion. I found some minor corrosion in the failed unit but it was scattered about, rather than at a point of entry. That suggests that not only is it vulnerable to moist air from a hot shower in the bathroom, it may also be exposed to humidity from the soap it contains and the water used to wash the outside surface. Don't expect a long life from this product. It is sold at costco with a lifetime warranty. The next time I buy this it will be from costco for that reason. Consider keeping your bathroom ventilated and dry and don't submerge this device under a stream of water to wash it. Update February 2021 - As I was admiring the advanced Engineering of the internal pieces of the failed soap pump, I decided to carefully inspect every part to see if I could find the root cause of the failure. I'm good at that. As I tested each part separately, I verified that the entire system was working in pieces, but was not able to accept charge into the battery. I set up a separate laboratory measurement system to monitor Voltage and Current while charging the battery from a programmable battery charger. This allowed me to eliminate the on board USB powered charger from the system, just in case that was the cause of the problems. I discovered that the battery exhibited high internal resistance and would not accept charge and would not deliver current to a load. That was the problem. Battery failure. Of course, I don't give up that easily. The job is not complete until the actual ROOT cause is found. I noticed that the overwrap shrink seal had a long object underneath it, which was certainly a single cell on board Battery Management System (BMS). That is an advanced electronic circuit board that protects the battery from failures in the USB charging system and protects the rest of the system in case of short circuit that could melt parts of the system, start a fire, or damage the battery. As I said before, this humble soap dispenser has a lot of advanced technology! Most products don't use a BMS separate from the main circuit board. I carefully sliced off the plastic wrap and found another layer of Kapton tape sealing the BMS board against the battery body. I carefully removed the tape and the BMS circuit board fell off one of the two flat metal terminals that are welded to the battery. At last! The failure was obvious. One terminal under the BMS board was completely corroded to leave just tiny fragments of metal for carrying current. THAT is the ROOT CAUSE! In the initial analysis, signs of corrosion were found, along with many individual design changes and sealing parts that were intended to prevent all the failure modes that caused this product to be so unreliable in the past. The unit that I purchased had no failures in those areas, but the presence of long term warm air and high humidity destroyed a metal terminal that was protected under a sealed Kapton tape layer and another blue plastic heat shrink layer. It appears that hasty installation of the Kapton tape left many gaps around the BMS board, allowing moisture to penetrate to the vulnerable metal connection and destroy the unit. It may be fun to salvage the good battery and the good motor/pump for some other project. This detective story has been fun, leaving us with a lesson that most consumer electronic products designed for use in high humidity have many failure modes and short lifespan. ... show more

  • A nice touch.
Color: Brushed Size: 9 oz. Rechargeable
So, the first one of these I purchased was in polished stainless for the powder room. I thought it would be a nice touch, which it was. After using it a few times, I bought another one in brushed stainless for the kitchen. A month later, I bought one (polished) for the master bedroom. Finally, I got one (polished) for the guest bathroom. It was surprising how convenient it became to just poke my hand under a little spout and get soap. They look a lot nicer on the sink and counter than a pump bottle does, that's for sure. Besides, in the "Age of Covid", the less things are touched the better. The dispenser is well made and holds a decent amount of soap. Conveniently rechargable via USB. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • Best replacement
Color: Brushed Size: 9 oz. Rechargeable
I bought this as a replacement for another sensored soap dispenser on here, that one was blocky and it was hard to adjust the settings and temperature display and had to water down the soap. I love this and it’s so easy! Don’t even have to water down the soap. It detects how much to dispense by how close or far you place your hand below the dispenser. It’s also really easy to clean. Not sure why I didn’t buy this first. I already have a few simple human stuff. I saw that they have a matte black version on their website and wish i had saw that first but I guess this goes better with my sink lol ... show more

  • Rock Solid
Color: Brushed Size: 9 oz. Rechargeable
Saw one of these in an appliance store and ordered it immediately. It’s beautiful, rock solid and works every time. I’m amazed at how well it consistently delivers soap and yet never drips. Surprisingly, I also love the lavender hand soap. It’s not strong but has a nice smell.

  • Sensor not consistent. I prefer the battery operated model.
Color: White Size: 9 oz. Rechargeable
Pros: Rechargeable (Too soon to know how long each charge lasts) Power Button (Item can be turned off when cleaning or refilling) Smooth top, easier to clean (No volume control buttons to get dust embedded around them) Smaller foot print Cons: Smaller refill opening. I actually have to sit down and fill this up. It takes much longer. Auto sensor is erratic. I've yet to get the same amount twice, regardless of hand position. Dispenses much more than I would normally use each time, resulting in more refills, more irritation due to the small refill opening. Unable to see soap level Please note: This comes with a USB cord, but not a power brick, so you need to use an adapter or connect to a PC. Important to know if you are purchasing this for someone who does not use electronics. I've used simple human soap dispensers for years. I believe an automatic soap dispenser is essential to keeping down illness in the home. It doesn't have to be an expensive model like simple human, but get one where the sensor is at the top. The models/brands with the sensors at the bottom eventually burn out from getting wet. Originally we used bar soap, but we had to take in family members with 4 small children for a while, and they kept passing colds to each other, and eventually to the adults. After the kids washed their hands, the bar soap had swirls of dirt from not rinsing properly or rinsing the bar after using. I changed to liquid soap hand pumps, which helped reduce colds by 50+ percent, but once I went to an automatic dispenser, it almost completely eliminated them. No one had to touch the soap or the soap pump. Towels were cleaner also as the kids washed their hands better. This is my third simple human soap pump. Originally I had a large battery operated. When that stopped functioning I changed to the 8oz battery operated, as the larger model was no longer available. Lately it was getting to the point where we were having to change the batteries too often, which is a pain as there is no on off switch, and you have to invert the dispenser to change the batteries. So we went with the rechargeable. If I had to do it again, I'd get another battery operated dispenser. I could control the amount of soap dispensed, the refill opening was larger, I could see the amount of soap left, and one refill lasted about 2 weeks. It was a five star item. The new rechargeable dispenser has a smaller foot print, and is supposed to be 9 oz instead of 8 oz, but one refill lasted less than one week. The dispenser dispenses whatever it wants, regardless of how close or far your hand is to the dispenser sensor. The refill opening is deeper, and more narrow, so you have to pour the soap in slowly. It has a air hole to help let out displaced air, but what took 30 seconds to fill before, is now a 3-5 minute job. To save time I'd rather have the batteries. I knew going in that the contents wouldn't be visible, and didn't think it would be much of a liability, but basically you don't know you need soap until you run out. The soap comes out at an angle. and operation doesn't seem to be as smooth as the battery operated model I had. The soap dispenses with much more force than my previous model, so I'm hoping it means it can handle thicker soaps than the previous model. Anything other than clear hand soap would bog the older model down. I think the white finish will stand up against water spots better than the brushed stainless. The unfinished/uncovered charging port isn't as distracting on the white model as it is on the pictures of the other colors. To make this 5 stars it would need a volume control for the soap dispenser, preferably under the lid to keep the smooth easy clean top. Also a larger refill opening and a clear lower body to be able to determine the amount of soap left. I'd also like to see a taller dispenser that can hold at least 12-16 oz of soap. I'm not going to bother to return it but, IMO, it's not an improvement over the battery operated model and should probably be priced about $15-20 less than its retail price. ... show more
