These Sage curtains are not totally "black out", a small amount of light bleeds through. Other than that, the material is decent, and relatively thick, but not heavy.

The window in my dining area has a beautiful view, and I haven’t wanted to obstruct it. It also gets early-morning sun, which is nice in the winter but can be very bright and scorching in the summer. In fact, it heats up that section of the house, and I have to be careful what I leave on the dining room table—for instance, I don’t want electronics to get baked in the morning if I leave them out overnight. I’ve considered different solutions but my initial preferences—nice blinds or museum-style window shades—were pricey and not easy to install… I’m not a master at that. Also, the size of the window is large. These curtains looked so nice, neutral, and reasonably priced (I ordered the natural color, 40 x 63—you get two panels, a total of 80" width) that I figured even if they didn’t work out, I’d only be out of pocket fourteen dollars. I also had to order and install a curtain rod, and that’s a separate review and also a very minor expense. The manufacturer’s listing notes that the darker the curtain color, the more light that’s filtered. I didn’t want dark curtains in that space so I decided to go with minimal light blocking. I am pleasantly surprised by these curtains. I am not a big fan of polyester, but the look and feel of these is very nice, and they are washable (which I have not tried and probably won’t for years! ). I didn’t notice until putting them up that both tops and bottoms have the hemmed pockets, so I guess you could hang them either way—or swap ends if the light starts to fade the outside. They are lightweight but they absolutely shield heat and most of the light from the direct sun—that table is now in the cool shade when the curtains are closed. And because they are not thick, they pull to the side well. I think they even improve the look of the window and the dining area whether open or closed. I had been hesitant to put anything in front of that window… and it took me, believe it or not, 23 years to decide on something, but I am very happy with these curtains.

Why is there white thread sewed into the the front hem of the curtain? It's a dark blue curtain, with a dark blue hem. Obviously an irregular, or just shoddy work, poor quality of fabric. Etc. And it's see they! It's advertised as 3 layers. 3 layers of toilet paper would block out more light than these. Pro: They're affordable Con: They're not worth the value

I ordered these curtains for inside our RV bedroom. We have a large window, complete with shades, that always seem to let ALL the daylight in, and the heat. I have been looking for something to remedy this problem and look homey while doing so. These drapes are the perfect solution. They block out all the light and allow for a good night's sleep while camping. It keeps it a lot cooler too! They are made of quality material and hang beautifully. Mission accomplished. I will be ordering more for the rest of the windows.
