***My original review is at the bottom, but since my blanket has been replaced with a new and updated version of the product and I have been given a full refund I would consider it no longer applicable*** My sweet husband has autism and with that comes a nightly struggle to sleep and a struggle with anxiety. I have anxiety as well, and find that for me weighted blankets are not comforting. But for my husband the blanket helps him through the night (and that means I get more sleep too) and gives him security. He is not quite in the weight range for the 20lb blanket but that is what I got him. My husband also sleepwalks, and it's the scary disrupting kind! The blanket is so heavy though that he can't easily get up or move around and it's extra safety for me. I've noticed he sleepwalks/talks much less and almost no sleepwalking where he gets out of bed. I would highly recommend this if you need to contain a sleepwalker without locking them up (because if you've been through it you know the struggle!). He loves this blanket and always wants to share it because he loves it so much! We keep this blanket as the bottom layer, so that if he overheats he can have everything off him but his weighted blanket. Since this blanket is polyester it is not as heat-reducing as cotton and we consider it a warm layer rather than a cooling one. He did not know his last blanket was defective until it was time to donate it, which he was very disappointed about. I'm hard to get a hold of but Simple Being customer service was very persistent and sent me a new blanket right when I needed it (which was an awesome surprise!), without me having to ask. My husband didn't have to go without his beloved blanket after all! They are obviously very passionate about their product(s) and customers. I find those qualities the most attractive thing about this company. They are obviously making a lot of improvements and working on getting out a really reliable blanket. My husband is happy, and that's the most important thing. Despite what the product page says, on the tag of my blanket (shown in one of the pictures) it says it is made of all new materials consisting of glass beads and polyester. I searched for the word cotton but couldn't find it on the blanket. It looks likes polyester, it feels like polyester. I'm going to consider this a polyester weighted blanket rather than a cotton one. The glass beads are not very even throughout the entire blanket, and since there has been some leaking of the beads into certain pouches, it does not give the blanket an overall smooth look and is uncomfortable to feel a hard, heavy, overstuffed pouch. I feel that this blanket is worth a try for those that can afford it. The colors are amazing and what drew me to this in the first place! The small pouches are a really unique design and feel. Unfortunately my husband has indeed noticed in the few months we've used this one that a few of the pouches are indeed leaking and compacting, but he still loves it! For the quality of the blanket I have now, I would pay around thirty dollars (and add a few for the brand) for it and feel like I didn't waste a purchase. I would not pay the current asking price for this brand and blanket and feel completely happy with my purchase. While I really want to love this blanket it is evident the stitching is already weakening and I don't prefer a warm polyester blanket. We are going to enjoy it while it lasts and then continue our search for a long-lasting, sustainable, and quality cotton weighted blanket. ***ORIGINAL REVIEW-Before product changes and is no longer applicable for the current product*** This was a surprise purchase for my husband for Christmas. Immediately upon use we found the weight to be calming and the color is gorgeous! His sleep has drastically improved. However, after a few nights of use I found that several of the quilt pouches had leaked into three specific spots and are heavy and hard bunches of little glass beads while other pouches are left empty. It's going to soon become unusable for the purpose it was bought for; an evenly distributed weighted blanket. Had the quality and durability been up to the price, it would have been worth it. *UPDATE* We haven't touched this blanket all Summer, we found that in our air-condition-less apartment the weighted blanket feels unsettlingly like a warm body. The cotton is breathable, the beads are not. The rating has been changed to one star due to our first chilly night using this I woke up to feel little glass beads all over my feet. The very weak stitching that caused the pockets to leak into each other in the first place is now starting to let out some of the overstuffed beads. Now it is deemed unusable unless I want to vacuum glass beads up. On another note, the beads are tiny and clear and not dangerous at all. Upon personal use I've found that the blanket is completely ineffective since all the beads are on one side, you have to fold it over to get any weighted feel. ... show more

My wife and I are both retired from the same profession - law enforcement. We are both very active socially and involved in family advocacy. Over the years our stress levels have risen as our schedules became crammed with shifting priorities, 24 hour on-call situations combined with our personal goals and family tragedies. Needless to say, our sleep habits have greatly changed as a result; I'm not the worrier, but I constantly roll and turn during the night. My wife simply gets exhausted before going to bed, then lies there restless because she can't keep her concerns and worries in check. Rough nights for us both. I discovered an article about "weighted" blankets and their benefits; was I interested? You betcha! After much research and reviews of more weighted blankets than I would have ever thought could be available, I settled on the Simple Being Weighted Blanket. It just seemed to be just that - simple yet effective. Even then, I still did not know what results we could actually expect. I placed our new blanket over our bedspread and surprised my wife with it when she came home after a really trying day. She was curious why I got it and I simply told her I thought we might like it. She had no idea of my research. The first time she got under the blanket she felt the weight and commented on how it made her feel like I was in bed with her than instead of waiting for me to join her some time later, which is usual. I, myself noticed it was a "different" feeling, but very welcome. I thought this blanket is a "keeper". After the first night, virtually uninterrupted by being kept awake, my wife also stated she really liked the feel and sense of comfort she enjoyed. Nice. Finally something I can do for her to ease her busy lifestyle. The second night she critiqued it again, suggesting the blanket should be placed over the cover sheet and between the bedspread. We did, and it was SO much more comfortable. Nicer. Our last few nights have actually allowed us to get a better quality of much needed sleep and my wife has realized she has left-over energy to do even more work before going to bed, even after her regular(?) days' work! Bottom line...she relaxes immediately, falls asleep much quicker and feels more relaxed when she gets up! Me, I enjoy the comfort and better "control" of our weighted blanket now with just the cover sheet (with or withought the bedspread) and apparently don't toss and turn nearly as much, according to the condition of the covers in the morning! Another concern I had turned out to be a welcome surprise - I sweat very easily and was concerned about what I would do being under a heavier blanket (usually just partially under the cover sheet). As yet I have not sweated or got too uncomfortable to do more than put a leg and/or arm out from the covers, so I can enjoy the comfort all night long! After a decent trial time my wife has started making a list of people she thinks would also enjoy the Simple Being Weighted Blanket as a gift. I totally agree. The only down side from our new blanket and cover is that, as someone else mentioned in the reviews, it doesn't "fit" our queen size bed. My response is..it really doesn't have to fit like a traditional blanket as it stays where you place it, so there's no creeping to one side or another like our regular blankets do. Another suggestion for the fitting concern; do as we did and place it over your cover sheet and UNDER the bedspread. Issue solved, at least for us. Great surprise, great product and great results. I can't express how much I LOVE this blanket! I have to admit I was a little skeptical about a weighted blanket being a stress reliever, but when I covered up with this blanket after a VERY stressful day at work I immediately began to relax. The fabric is soft and the blanket is great quality. The color - I purchased gray - is beautiful! The only negative I have about this blanket is that now my husband, son, and I fight over it! Update: I have to say that the customer service for this company is amazing. After recieving a new blanket I am gladly updating this review. The new blanket is exactly what i wanted it to be. I've had this blanket 2 days and the stitching is coming out. For the price you pay for it I expected much better. I doubt it will last me a year with the way its already coming undone. This blanket is high quality and well made but a little too heavy for me. I gave it five stars because the weight was not their issue, it was mine. The minute I lifted this blanket I knew it was way too heavy for me to sleep under. I need more like 12 pounds, but that doesn't diminish the quality of this blanket. This blanket is incredible. It is so soft and the weight is evenly distributed. It most definitely gives you a calming feeling. The quality is top notch. It could easily serve as a comforter too. Overall, this blanket is a must buy in my opinion!
