This was a gift for my 15 year old son who is teaching himself metal working skills. He had no trouble getting it assembled. He’s already made a sword as a gift for a friend with this forge. Just be careful where you place it during use. It’s gets extremely hot and my sons first attempt at running the forge to cure it ended up on the ground in flames. It’s very durable too. We had a mishap with a goat getting loose in our barn and he knocked it over and it landed on the ground with no damage except a broken fire brick which was easily replaced. My son purchased this and was able to assemble and use in one day. He LOVES it and is forging every day. He was coal forging with his homemade forges and this is definitely an upgrade it gets the metal super hot and easy to hammer.

I am a beginner knife maker and needed something for annealing and learning about metal properties and hardening. This unit is a perfect star and there are some things I like about it. The valve between the burners allows you to shut one off and just use one burner. I also like that it has a door on one side. The thing I don't like about it is the 20psi rated regulator. It completely failed after the first use and would not go above 15 PSI and regularly fluctuated between 10 and 14 PSI during use. My second time I used it the regulator would turn but not adjust the pressure. The gauge would only read zero and has not responded even with light tapping from my finger. Overall I think it is good for a starting point. One other area I would like to upgrade is the rubber hose above that supplies the gas. A option to thread black pipe would have made me feel better. ... show more

Overall we’re satisfied. This is not the forge we wanted originally, but that brand was sold out and this was the next up in price. This is our first forge, so nothing to compare to, however the fit and finish is rough. The welds are sloppy and it looks hastily made but it’s functional. It’s definitely not pro quality but it works for our hobby needs. It came with refractory cement which we applied as directed and so far after 5 hours use it’s still holding up. Dropped a star for the price vs quality. It’s overpriced for the qty of material and poor build quality. The door handle did not fit the welded nut on the door due to poor weld, but we came up with a better placement. ... show more
