Description

Starring Luci Christian. Review It's a fun and comfortably-paced program that presents small groups of words through computer animation, songs, and graphics. They sing original songs with lyrics built around 60 common sight words. Accompanying animation illustrates the context in which the sight word are used. It all comes together to teach a comprehensive lesson about sight words. --Parents' Choice I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this DVD. My toddler will tell you that she loves it just as much. --Sara @ Mommy Headquarters My four year old son LOVES this video, as does my two year old. They are learning the words and singing right along with the DVD. I love that the words are taught in context for better comprehension! As a teacher (now stay at home mom), this is highly recommended as your child nears school age! Even if your child is still learning, this is great reinforcement! --Ann @ My Milwaukee Mommy

  • Learning to read
This helped my 1st grader learn sight words.

  • My 5 year old loves this video.
I purchased this video as another tool to help my son with his reading. He reads pretty well for his age but I like to keep him sharp and try to use different tools for him so that he will not get bored with learning. He asks to watch the video from time to time so that he can exercise his brain lol. I hear him singing some of the songs from the video which is a good way for him to remember his words. Music and singing is an excellent way my son learns and retains what he has learned. I taught him how to spell his first and last name when he was young by making a song out of it and it worked. I also taught him how to spell words through songs. That is why this dvd is a hit for us. This is a video that you have to use repeatedly for your child to learn just like other tools as well. We both have fun looking at this video and seeing who can remember the most words. Worth the purchase. ... show more

  • Great
This was a surprisingly good little video for teaching sight words. MUCH more interesting and engaging than the "Meet the Sight Words" series. The words are presented repeatedly, and in context, and it's done mostly using catchy little songs that the kids really enjoyed. The "Look-See-Find" one was particularly memorable and giggle-worthy. The video presents a LOT of words, and in some places it goes very fast, so I wouldn't expect kids to pick up much from one or two viewings. After watching it several times, though (and it's entertaining enough that they WANT to), there are a number of words my daughter has nailed now. This is NOT the only thing we're using to teach sight words, but it's a good reinforcement, and some of the cute little sayings in the songs have been useful. "T-h-e is "the" is a prompt I was able to use more than once in a reading lesson by saying "T-h-e is..." until she had that one down. Definitely recommend this one, even if just for fun. ... show more

  • Excellent Resources that Build on One Another
We were gifted this and several other Rock & Learn DVDs about 7 years ago and our first child watched them over and over, and quickly built up the skills they go over (in this case reading). For those who are saying the voices are annoying or it’s too fast or______- remember this isn’t for you, it’s for your kids. The techniques they use are successful and memorable! Consider this a cartoon where your kids are learning valuable information rather than how to be whiny or complaining like most cartoons. Our second child is now starting to learn to read and loves these just as much as our first did! ... show more

  • Love it
This is a great starter DVD set for sight words. My 21 month old son has broadened his vocabulary after watching this just a few times. I also interact a lot with him while this is playing as this may bring better results. It's perfect for my boy because he's active and enjoys the music and dancing. I also see that he is repeating more of the words that he sees after multiple viewings. I believe that this will be an important part of him learning sight words. Would recommend to any parent who enjoys having top notch quality products for their child's learning. I've already purchased volume 2 Sight Words. Rock 'N Learn DVDs/CDs are very useful as my son has learned his entire alphabet, most colors, most shapes, and numbers 1-10 due to the Rock 'N Learn series. Rock 'N Learn is great in addition to the teaching that parents are already doing with their child! ... show more

  • My son loves it- even if he isn't learning his sight words...
I really want to give this a better review. It is one of the more captivating educational videos out there, but it's definitely more "captivating" than "educational." The songs are so catchy and the characters are so lively that the words sort of fade into the background. Often there are two or three words on the screen, making it confusing to tell which word is which. The words my son learned the easiest were actually spelled out in songs. Some of the visuals seem more appropriate for infants who need to learn the MEANING of common words, as opposed to the spelling (Look, See, Find is a song where the characters actively look for a cat, acting out looking, seeing, and finding. errrm... sight words, people. That's what we're supposed to be doing here.) Overall, making the words visible for beginning readers seems to come second to goofy cartoon characters. ... show more

  • Great Learning Video
My 3 & 6 year olds love this video. We play it in the car when we are having a busy day and getting the required 15 minutes of reading done for my daughter's homework might be difiicult. They want to watch it over and over again. The video uses simple story lines with lots of music and repition to help kids remember sight words. The words are introduced, put into a musical phrase or song and then repeated. Later on the words are reviewed again. My daughter will sing the words or phrases for the next few days after watching this video. When it is my turn to drive my daughter & her friend to dance class, she asks to watch the Rock and Learn videos. I will be purchasing other titles of this series. ... show more
