I had to replace several broken door latch assembly on a 2005 e350. Apparently this is not uncommon, but I was a little intimidated, so I put it off longer than I should have. I ordered this and prayed it would work. Opening the box, it seemed to be the right part, so I started taking out the old one, crossing my fingers the whole time that it would be a 1:1 match. Replacing the right hand barn door latch assembly isn’t “hard”, but it’s also not easy. I mean just look at the part. I heard someone call it an octopus and that felt appropriate. It does feel a bit like you’re Poseidon of the mechanics, wrangling a spindly, metallic dragon. I actually didn’t watch a single video or look at any instructions before I replaced the part. It felt like the kind of thing that would make sense if I just took my time and paid attention, and for the most part, it was. But here’s some notes: I think the user of operations for me was: 1. remove screws holding the interior door handle in place. 2. Remove the three bolts holding the latch to the door 3. Remove the little wire ball catch that’s under the latch 4. Remove the little door lock post from its hole 5. Remove the metal hook from the top of the rubber trigger thing 6. ***remove the shim holding the door lock in place by pulling it towards you*** (this is the step that I had to go online for, it’s pretty critical) 7. Remove the rod from the plastic door lock clip thing 8. Take that puppy out and put this new baddie in by following the steps mostly in reverse. You’ll have to make sure you position the lock post thing in its spot early or you won’t be able to get it in once you start securing stuff down. And that’s that! I was super nervous to try it out once I thought I was done, but it worked perfectly! Such a relief!! I now have functional barn doors again! Hope this helps, and good luck!
