Description

"Side by Side: Poem and Prose" by Garry Glidden ventures into uncharted literary territory by presenting poems and prose in tandem. This innovative approach allows readers to witness the dynamic interplay between these distinct forms of expression, inviting a unique reading experience where the juxtaposition of poetic brevity and prosaic depth unfolds on adjacent pages. The novelty of this book lies in its deliberate effort to break down the traditional boundaries between poetry and prose. By placing two forms side by side, Glidden not only allows but encourages readers to discern the subtle differences and surprising similarities in language, rhythm, and meaning. The visual alignment of poem and prose prompts comparative exploration, inviting readers to consider how each form enhances or challenges the other. As readers navigate through the pages, the simultaneous presence of poem and prose creates a conversation between concise emotion and narrative expansiveness. This innovative format allows for a nuanced examination of language's capacity to evoke feelings and convey complex ideas, presenting a rich tapestry of expression transcending conventional literary distinctions. "Side By Side: Poem and Prose" is not merely a collection; it is a literary experiment that invites readers to actively engage with the text, prompting reflection on how language shapes our understanding of the world. Garry Glidden's exploration of this novel format opens new avenues for approaching the nuances of poetry and prose, challenging readers to embrace the beauty of the spaces between these traditionally separate forms of writing. In this groundbreaking work, the convergence of poem and prose becomes a celebration of language's multifaceted nature, offering a fresh perspective on the symbiotic relationship between brevity and expansiveness in storytelling. • Insightful and beautiful!

Love it! Personally I love the poems more than prose, just more my style. I really found a lot of insight and found myself smiling multiple times reading the poems. • awesome concept for a poetry book!
Format: Paperback
i loved the idea of a verse and prose version of the same poem ... side by side! Garry has a talent for imagery and alliteration, just lovely. I didn't connect fully with the writing, i think it was the meter of some lines that threw me off. but the ideas and images used were beautiful. clearly made with love and deep feeling! ... show more

  • A different way to teach how to write poetry
Format: Paperback
If you wish to be inspired by a book of poetry that can be used as a teaching tool, this book fits the bill. It demonstrates how a short-story narrative can be transformed into poetic verse. As a writer, I've considered doing the same thing, but never did. Garry Glidden has done an excellent job of showing the beginner writer how an idea can be approached from different perspectives, but offer the same message. If you write poetry, this book is a good addition to your library. ... show more

  • Charming!
Format: Paperback
What a lovely book! The concept of the layout is delightful, with a reflective contemplation alongside a lyrical and rhythmic musing. The author brings thought and word into comfortable and familiar visuals of the emotions we carry, as humans. This is a book that reads like heartbeats and sighs. Enjoy lingering inside. ... show more

  • Poems Simplified
Format: Paperback
I’ve only begun to explore this book and I’m already loving it. The same topic is written about in both the poetry and prose form by the author. This erases doubts that I sometimes have when reading a poem and it’s explanation/translation by someone other than the author . It builds my confidence to appreciate poetry. I particularly loved “The Absent But Present” which talks about memories or loved ones we’ve lost in life and how the presence of these memories make that person present in their absence ... show more
