Alli Briden’s Bright Winter Night is a true gem of a find. Ashling Lindsay’s art is playful, vibrant, and relatable for children. Amazon First Reads is a Prime member program. In November, get early access to a new Kindle book, FREE for Prime members and only $1.99 for everyone else. What I also discovered is a point system when buying Kindle and Hardcover that gets rebates. What I wouldn’t do to get back dated perks 😁 What I like most about the book besides the art is how the flow vibes poetry. The segments of info are short leaving room to explore the visuals. For an activity, this would be a fun book to add pages. Meaning pick animals that aren’t mentioned. Add poetic details for each like how to book embraces each animal’s unique qualities through creative writing and art. Great read for this time of year with children. The plot is simple, but it’s a good, non-religious, winter story with great art. Good to read to kids during the winter months.

Alli Brydon’s beautiful, engaging poetry and Ashling Lindsay’s gorgeous illustrations blend so well together to create this story of a group of forest animals whose goal is to build a sleigh to transport them to share a magical experience. You can feel the warmth of their friendship as they work together and enjoy their adventure on a cold winter night where they are rewarded in this “Bright Winter Night”. This children's book was okay but to me personally just not all that appealing. It focuses on winter, animals, and teamwork, but none of these things nor the rhyming really moved me in any way. Like the writing the illustrations themselves were okay but simply not my preferred style. It is a children's book however so there was nothing truly terrible about it, although nothing truly great either. I doubt if I'll even read it to the little ones in my family and have to admit I was slightly disappointed with this month's first reads selection. Please Note: This book is meant to be read horizontally so that the images fill up the entire screen. Most of the words are on the smaller side however and many of the pictures are single images instead of the side by side images that are found in the majority of children's books. ... show more

The Art: Gorgeous! I love the flow of the color scheme throughout the entire book. It makes you want to curl up in front of a fire with your furry family members. The Story: So sweet and rhythmic with its rhymes. While some words maybe too large or hard to sound out for kids learning to read, the relationship of words in each sentence may help them to recognize them in the future.
