While there are more expensive and higher-spec live show microphones out there, this microphone certainly sets a high bar of what standard live show microphone quality is. Suitable for a wide range of vocals, excluding very high or low-pitched singers. I did have to turn up my amp a bit higher for the vocals to really be heard through other instruments. I'm using a Orange 25watt guitar amp, but I don't have a pre-amp yet so that's negligible for jam sessions, busking, home-recording, a small show of a few dozen people, or for whatever other reason you've acquired this microphone. For a great mic that has had great reviews, I'm happy that I purchased it. I have 3 others Shure wireless mics but this one is for those moments that you have to go with a corded set. Don't get the wind cover, is a piece of garbage; broke on the first try.

Not my first SM58, but had to give it some praise here anyway. I currently play in a lounge rock duo playing piano/keys and singing. I had become comfortable with a headset microphone the past couple of years until I wanted to make some PA system changes. Picked up a new SM58 and after one song I was ready to make it my default once again. If you've been playing live music longer than one day, you've already heard of this iconic mic. You honestly can’t go wrong with this mic. I ended up getting 3 because I know the quality is dependable. Every church and live show I’ve helped with uses these. Dropped them a bunch of times with no issues. If the grill gets too bent, just get a replacement. 😆 Only one consideration, it may not be the best for certain voices when it comes to its coloration. ... show more

While I liked this microphone, I did end up replacing it with an AKG D5, which simply has higher output levels. The build quality of this thing is fantastic and it's built like a tank. The sound quality was great. My main beef with this microphone is that the output signal is VERY LOW, and is very gain hungry. Depending on how long your microphone cable is, and where you do your pre-amp, you can end up with a noisy setup to get proper useful levels. You'll need to use an SE Dynamite(what I use), a Cloudlifter, or Triton Fethead as in-line microphone preamp. They are approximately $75 to $150, but add gain directly out of the microphone. You use +48v phantom power into the preamp, and the preamp plugs directly (no cable, or short cable) into the microphone. This solution works wonders. My main application is audio for high-quality-needed video conferencing. ... show more
