This movie is a forgotten classic and bears rewatching, in my case at least once a year. All of the characters are so believable and funny. I love how Johnny 5 takes their situation and shakes it up in the most hilarious way. The movie depends on a very familiar sequel trope — "just like the first one except this time in New York" — zany, I know. However, every character is so unique and believable and you really want to root for them. It doesn't feel formulaic, and a lot of the situations are memorable and funny. There's even an philosophical undertone about what it really means to exist, even if you're a machine. Pretty sure Star Trek took notes. What really made this movie a classic for me is the end. Won't spoil it but the stakes feel real, and I always worry the bad guys might actually win. Then suddenly "I Need a Hero" comes on and you know those jewel thieves are screwed. Admittedly by today's standards a white actor in "brown face" playing an Indian character is bad. I never even realized that until I rewatched it as an adult and think today it would be done differently. However, I still love that character, think he played it respectfully, and I hope it didn't offend too many people because I think he did his best with the material. The movie may have been panned when it came out but those critics don't know anything. Yeah it's silly but it's so much fun, not every movie needs to be Oscar worthy. This is way better than the original and I will watch it again and again. ... show more
