Adding this Short Circuit 2 Deluxe Limited Edition from 88 Films to my collection has brought me immense joy and nostalgia, and it's a must have for fans of the classic 80s comedy. Exceeding my expectations in every possible way, this set is a true treasure trove of memorabilia and collectibles that any enthusiast would cherish. While the included Blu-ray disc is region-locked, the stunning packaging and wealth of bonus materials make this set an essential purchase. First and foremost, the packaging of this deluxe edition is a visual delight. The outer case is beautifully designed with vibrant artwork that captures the essence of the film. The attention to detail in the artwork is impeccable, and it immediately takes me back to the joy and excitement I felt when I first watched Johnny 5 come to life. Its rigid slipcase features gorgeous new artwork of Johnny 5 that immediately grabs your attention. Inside is a digipack with reversible artwork, allowing you to display the original theatrical poster art if desired. The digipack itself has a nice heft and premium feel. Storyboard sequences with the director's commentary provide great insight into the creative process, and the extensive set of high quality art cards features iconic scenes and characters from the movie. Unfortunately, being region locked, I cannot watch with the new feature length commentary by director Kenneth Johnson or the two new interviews featured in the bonus section.     • One of my all time favorite comedies, I don't care what anyone says
This movie is a forgotten classic and bears rewatching, in my case at least once a year. All of the characters are so believable and funny. I love how Johnny 5 takes their situation and shakes it up in the most hilarious way. The movie depends on a very familiar sequel trope — "just like the first one except this time in New York" — zany, I know. However, every character is so unique and believable and you really want to root for them. It doesn't feel formulaic, and a lot of the situations are memorable and funny. There's even an philosophical undertone about what it really means to exist, even if you're a machine. Pretty sure Star Trek took notes. What really made this movie a classic for me is the end. Won't spoil it but the stakes feel real, and I always worry the bad guys might actually win. Then suddenly "I Need a Hero" comes on and you know those jewel thieves are screwed. Admittedly by today's standards a white actor in "brown face" playing an Indian character is bad. I never even realized that until I rewatched it as an adult and think today it would be done differently. However, I still love that character, think he played it respectfully, and I hope it didn't offend too many people because I think he did his best with the material. The movie may have been panned when it came out but those critics don't know anything. Yeah it's silly but it's so much fun, not every movie needs to be Oscar worthy. This is way better than the original and I will watch it again and again. ... show more

    • What a great sequel
If you love campy 80s fun, you can't go wrong with the two Short Circuit movies. And in my opinion, this sequel is even better than the first! Some people complain that Ally Sheedy and Steve Guttenberg are not in this sequel, but they're missing the point-- the true star of both movies is the robot Johnny 5. Sure, losing Sheedy and Guttenberg takes away from some of its camp value, but in their place you get a SNL alum in Michael McKean, who also starred in some other 80s camp classics (like Clue). For this sequel, the film's creators sidestepped the "more of the same" pitfall that most sequels fall into. This time, Johnny 5 is in the big city, living with his former nemesis, Ben Jahrvi, who has since taken to small-time toy electronics after losing his job in the first film. Initially he is there to help Ben build his toy robots, but a more sinister plot emerges concerning some jewel thieves who want to take advantage of Johnny's naivety. All the best parts of the original are here, but are even more fun. Johnny explores the city and learns how humans behave, and along the way he must learn that people do not easily accept what he is (a living robot). There is actually a metaphor here for acceptance, and what it's like to live as a second-class citizen in a society that rejects you. Because of this, it's a deeper and more emotional film than the first, but it never forgets that it's a campy 80s movie that is just fun to watch. Hats off to the writers who decided to go the unpredictable route with this sequel, and managed to make it fresh and entertaining. Picture & sound quality has improved w Blu-Ray. The price was a bit high for an older movie though.
