  • Serious amount of “get away from it all” reading material!!
What a value this whole set of books are. I own and read the Ixan trilogies separately some time ago and left separate reviews as those books were amazing and enjoyable. I had not read the Mech trilogy parts until now. Couldn’t wait to re-read the Ixan parts again (which are very much re-readable). I devoured the Mech part of this and was not disappointed. Fits right in and gives more history and answered some questions. Held my interest as I devoured the pages. Overall I found this whole set hard to put down. Quality writing and interesting stories. Will probably read it all again in the future. I own more books from this author than any other writer and he has never left me hanging or disappointed. I did receive an ARC copy of this but still purchased the final set as it was very much worth. I anxiously await what Mr Bartlett will release next! Grab this for pennies. Worth much more than it costs. Hours and hours of escape and entertainment. Highly recommend! ... show more

  • Even Better the Second Time!
I rarely read books a second time with fewer than a couple of years in between. This was an exception, moreso because it's a 10-book collecrion. CaptIain Husher and his XO Fesky make an incredibly realistic pair of military phenoms, augmented by a major staff of experts. Throw in the MIMAS and Price's alien Mech on the good side, versus the incredibly evil Progenitors of IXA, GOK and various others working withTeth, a master ov Evil, and you've got a masterpiece of conflict. Not to forget Ochrim, a mad scintist of the highest order. This seies was spellbinding and I enjoyed it even more the second time around. ... show more

  • Perhaps a decent 3-book story, crammed into 10, with aliens and improbability throughout
The first story-line pits good-guys vs bad guys; the second, exceptionally naïve bad guys that sort of become good vs really naïve bad guys; the third, can’t really sort them out. This is an interesting take on Space-Military. It starts with an amazing amount of rebellion, plus quite a bit of insubordination. The level of greed and corruption tends to exceed most of what I’ve seen in other Space Opera, even more than the majority of today’s corporate world. In doing so, it probably serves as a good example as how not to grow forward. At the start, most of the characters are pretty narrow. Their actions and reactions are pretty well expected. By the third book, it becomes pretty clear that the story is pretty shallow. Also, the grammar is weak. Personally, I believe those writing professionally should use proper grammar. Simple things, like using ‘him’ instead of ‘he’, should never be overlooked. The second story (4th book) pretty much leaves the previous story behind and picks up an offshoot. Like the first part of this series, the writing is pretty shallow and quite redundant. All the so-called action is so predictable, you sort of want to flip back in the books and try to match sentences. If it weren’t for blood-lust, there might not be much in this. Story 3 (starts with 8th book) After getting mid-way into this section of the series, I find it exceptionally difficult to keep reading. The story-line has digressed to a patently absurd set of circumstances and has exaggerated behaviors to a point that they are unbelievable. It is a struggle, but I went through to the (bitter) end. Overall, an OK story. Way too long for the meat of the story; even more clueless characters than normal for Space Opera; a lot of just extra stuff. Not really ‘bad’, but a bit tiring to work through. ... show more

  • Awesome READ!
I am only about half way thru book 3 but have been blown away by the number of plot twists and turns I've encountered so far. I have found the book collection hard to put down since starting it. Every time I think I've found a decent place to stop for a while, it never fails to fall onto a plot twist or a cliff-hanger or some such writers ploy to keep you from doing just that! The story line has been growing more complex and far reaching as I have been reading (mid book 3 so far). I can't imagine what Scott has in store for us in the later stories but I am certainly looking forward to reading the remainder of this collection. Buying this collection - all ten books - for 99 cents was a crazy good deal. I send a huge thanks out to Scott for thinking of us readers!!! If it's still on sell for 99 cents, buy it for your home library. if not, consider buying it for your home library anyway. From what I've read so for, this collection qualifies as one you can come back to reread over and over again. ... show more
