  • Good port of a decent JRPG.
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch
If you've playing SMT III on PS2 at some point and are wondering if this port lives up to the original release, you can stop reading: it does. Though you get Raidou instead of Dante as the guest boss by default unless you pay for a $10 dlc (the fights are mechanically identical). Otherwise: it's a decent JRPG. Story isn't up to Persona standards but its not bad either, especially if you like post-apocalyptic settings, and the demon fusion provides you with plenty of tactical options, which you'll need even on the normal difficulty setting. My advice: use buffs and debuffs. They're particularly strong in SMT games and the spinoff titles. It's a turn-based JRPG with a moderate grind, relatively high difficulty, lots of text with occasional voice acting, and a presentation that's a little dated but standard for the genre. If that's what you want on your Switch, you can do a lot worse. ... show more

  • As great as it once was +1
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch
It’s importance to understand the difference between remake and remaster, and I think even sometimes the industry gets it wrong. I’ve seen some negative press regarding SMT 3 as an “underwhelming remaster” as if people booted it up expecting a different game from the 2003 ps2 release, which in its time I saw as overwhelmingly underrated. And while the remaster has some new and improved features some from the later international release, such as voice acting a better camera and a few extra scenes and characters, it is largely the same game with improved graphical fidelity, which is a wonderful thing, if you’ve never played a SMT game this is a great place to start, it’s basically mature Pokémon. If you have only played SMT 4 or haven’t played SMT 3 since it’s ps2 iteration this a good place to get back into it. Persona kind of ran with this series of demon games and became the bread winner, but with the advent of SMT 5 on the horizon this is a good place to get your feet wet. ... show more

  • Want A Better, More Mature Pokemon-Like Game? Look No Further!
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch
A classic, some even say a masterpiece, from Atlus' SMT series. If you ever wanted a Pokemon game that was more mature, with better graphics, story, and battling system, this is it. Once you play it, you'll never be able to look at Pokemon games again the same way without comparing it to the SMT series. If you're an older Pokemon fan that's been wanting the game to mature along with the audience, or are a fan of the Persona series (Persona being a spinoff of the Shin Megami Tensei series), you'll want to pick this up, and maybe even checkout the DS releases of the other games in the series. An amazing game, experience, and a wonderful time overall, I'm eagerly awaiting SMT V coming out later this year! 5 Stars! Get it, you won't regret! Also available on Steam! ... show more

  • A decent port, but it's a little better on PS4 and PC
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch
One of the best RPG's I've played, but it certainly has a few nags that come with games from this era like overly long times from losing a battle to getting back into the game, and inconsistent placement of save points. As far as the Switch port goes, it will run smoothly in handheld mode, but tends to stutter when playing docked. Nothing that you can't get used to but worth pointing out if you have other options. ... show more

  • Childhood Dream come True
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch
I played this back when I was 13 years old before I knew what the Persona series. I loved it. In my friend groups nobody even knew what this game was, this is back before the internet so nobody had access to reviews besdies magazines or G4 TV. This is the blockbuster era. I was SO surprised to hear that there was a remaster on the Switch 5 days before my birthday. I instantly purchased it. The remaster is really good. It still has the charm of a PS2 game, I would not say it's a COMPLETE remaster like the Final Fantasy 7 is on the PS4, but it's still really well done. I'm loving beating it again. Persona fans this is a must. ... show more
