  • Practice Makes Perfect
I bought this as a recommended alternative to the $200 crimpers that American Autowire sells for doing double-crimps. At first, I was strapped in on the short struggle bus. My crimps looked like a blind drunk man had done them and the jaws kept getting stuck and popping out of the tool. Then, I learned the secret and my crimps looked professional almost immediately. I marked the jaws on the side the wire enters, and gently pre-formed some of the AAW Delphi terminals. Basically, I pinched the wings ever so slightly over the wire sheath and the stripped end, placed the terminal in the correct die and saddle, aligned it to the proper position and whamo, picture perfect crimps. I'm going to this detail because MANY people are looking for alternatives to the AAW crimpers, and these WILL WORK. Here's trick #2. On some of the smaller terminals in AAW kits, there is an annoying wing at the bottom. That wing WILL catch in the jaws and it will ruin your crimp, jam the jaws, and you will swear. Cut those little gremlins off with wire cutters and the terminal will clear the jaws properly. Make sure before you crimp that there are no features on the terminals that will interfere with the width of the jaws. As for the tool itself, it is sturdy, ratchets nicely, returns easily, and makes some good looking crimps once you get the hang of it. If you are considering this for an AAW kit, BUY IT and also one extra practice set from AAW. Thank me later. ... show more

  • Seems decent, but not real sturdy
Bought this to do some repairs on my car's engine harness among other things. It contains all the dies needed to almost anything you'd need to do on a car and around the house. Changing out the dies is very fast and easy because of the quick change design of the jaws, but this was also where I encountered my problem. In this case, I needed to crimp some non-insulated terminals on 12AWG wire for the battery solenoid. I inserted the die set for non-insulated terminals (18924). While the ratcheting mechanism worked well and made squeezing the crimp easy the quick release design caused some problems. About half-way through the crimp I noticed that the sides of the upper jaw were spreading apart and the die was sliding out of position. This resulted in a partial crimp. The same thing happened on four more attempts after reseating the die set each time. The quick change design allows the sides to flex apart. Another user noted this in their review and I now understand why he said he welded a piece in to keep the sides from flexing. This flaw would either not happen at all, or be greatly minimized, in a non quick change design as you have to attached the die sets with a screw or bolt. The screw itself will keep the sides from flexing. I'm going to be sending this back for the 18920 since it uses the old standard screw to attache the dies and should be a little stronger design overall. Maybe I just got a defective part, but I think the quick change design just may not be beefy enough for the larger terminal sizes. It would probably work just fine on the smaller gauge wires and terminals though. ... show more

  • Must have for waterproof terminal connections
I have had one of these for 5+ years and just bought another for my father. You have to have a crimper like this in order to crimp waterproof terminal connectors without damaging the heat shrink tubing and therefore defeating the whole purpose of buying a waterproof connector. Im sure there maybe better ones on the market for professional use but i highly recommend this one as I use mine at least every month. ... show more

  • Excellent Crimping Tool
If you crimp alot or find yourself crimping alot, buy the tool. You won't regret it. Makes crimping jobs alot easier. Crimps better than the manual hand crimpers. Crimps are clean and look professional. The exchangeable crimping heads are super easy to change out. Plus if you find yourself in the future crimping a different type of crimp, all you have to do is buy the crimping head rather than buying a new tool. Tool is super durable. I have beat the crap out of mines and still crimping strong. ... show more

  • Good value
Stretch and thickness? The tool seems to be built pretty well. The storage case handle seems pretty cheap. Good value for the money.

  • but the set looks good and feels solid
Purchased in anticipation of an automotive rewiring project. Have not started the project yet, but the set looks good and feels solid. I have played with them a little and they move easily with a nice ratcheting action. Each click is solid and holds well. A couple of test crimps looked great and there was no give between a wire and a terminal after a pull test. ... show more

  • Great tool
I bought this to specifically do Molex crimping. (You need to use the non-insulated barrel insert.) It is a well made tool and the dies included provide a great deal of flexibility. What this product could use is a sort of manual explaining how to change and use each of the dies. I wasted a couple of connectors trying to figure out exactly how to insert the wire get a good crimp. Simple instructions would greatly enhance the use of this product. ... show more
