  • Nice roughing endmill with some pretty respectable build tolerances
Size: 6mm SHK 6mm DIA Number of Items: 1
The media could not be loaded. Just recently I wore out my bread and butter aluminum cutting endmill an Amana ¼” single flute. It still works but gives me quite a bit of tearout on the leading tip edge. I decided it was time to look at a new endmill and given that I’ve had pretty good luck with other non-premium brands in the past year I decided to give this Sharpro 6mm 2 flute endmill a shot. I almost didn’t because the image in the listing gives the impression it’s not a flat bottom endmill. Spoiler it is, see my images. When this arrived I have to say the packaging was nicer than any other endmill I’ve ever gotten, even my Amana which was 4 x times the cost of this one. As has become a habit of mine recently after opening I immediately put the bit in my micrometer to see how accurate the bit was compared to advertised. This bit was surprisingly close, coming in at 5.997mm shaft and 5.972 on the cutting head (understanding it’s rather difficult to get exactly here because the flutes would need to be exactly perpendicular to the micrometer and this is hard to do by hand). But 0.025mm deviation is much better than average I’ve seen with other bits. I’ve got some that are tenths of mm off advertised, always undersized of course. This leads to holes smaller than designed and perimeters larger. Seeing how close this was I was eager to test it in my “accuracy gauge”. I have a 3 stage pocket cut in aluminum designed to fit a F688ZZ flanged bearing. I’ve very much dialed in my settings for several other bits using this method and it can tell me reasonably quick how undersized a bit is and cut quality. The pockets have 3 different diameters and 3 different depths so this shows me hole diameter accuracy and depth accuracy (how well the end of the mill is cutting in Z). My Fusion file has 0.02mm of extra space in it to allow for diameter differences bearing to bearing. The first thing I noticed is this bit is more of one of my ‘roughing’ bits. It’s an upcut and does gives some tearout (the zoomed picture does make it look worse than it is) so if you want superclean I’d follow this with a finishing pass on a downcut bit. With the tearout I was honestly not hopeful it would pass my tolerance test but to my surprise the bearing fit great first time with no deburring or cleanup. There was zero radial play and the bearing sits very flush with the surface. All in all it worked quite well and I look forward to trying this on some larger adaptive pocket cuts and see how it performs. ... show more

  • Most excellent Bit!
Size: 4mm SHK 3mm DIA Number of Items: 1
I used this bit last weekend on a very expensive piece of acrylic, and Mama Mia! it cut like a hot knife through butter! I usually default to a single "o" flute, but My buddy promised me that I'd be more pleased with the 2 flute, so I tried it. The edge was amazing, and there was almost no chatter. I decided to give it a try on some 3/4" on My mini CNC mill, and I made 2 perfect partsm before I think I got a little greedy, and snapped it. That's My fault... I was just so impressed, that I kept pushing it harder. I should have known that would happen! These are extremely sharp! Much sharper than some of the usual suspects. I'm pleased as punch with the price / performance ratio! ... show more

  • Carbide Takes the Heat at High RPMs
Size: 4mm SHK 3mm DIA Number of Items: 1
I've burned out too many small HSS endmills with the necessary rpm for a good surface finish, and so I don't break the tiny things by feeding faster than they can cut, so I finally made the jump to carbide tooling. I'm not doing CNC stuff, just manual milling on a 70 year old knee mill without integral cooling fluid, so I'm not pushing this endmill to its limit. I mostly work with aluminum and mild steel, so the move to carbide is more about the speed and maintaning sharpness than cutting difficult materials. For my purposes, which is essentially heat tolerance for this item, it has worked exactly as I had hoped. ... show more

  • Nice Looking Grind on this Carbide Cutter
Size: 4mm SHK 3mm DIA Number of Items: 1
Product Reviewed: Carbide Square End Mill 2 Flute 4mm Shank 3mm Cutting Dia. AlCrN Coated Upcut Spiral CNC Milling – for $11 TL;DR; Fine quality surface grind; I break out the macro lens to have a close look at these cutters. This one looks very good but I have not tried a cut with it. Generally I can tell by close ups if a cutter is decent enough for hobby work or not. 5 Stars – this seems like quite a good value also. How I review: Reviews start with 5 stars and I subtract points. - 0 for value but I try to provide guidance -0.5 to -3 for product not matching description e.g. stainless steel is actually plated steel -0.5 to -3 for product missing badly on execution I select products carefully so low (1-3 scores) are rare but detailed comments and critiques almost always are in the review. Most of my reviews come out 4-5 range. If possible I dismantle or destroy items to examine inner workings. ... show more

  • Don't Flush It
Size: 6mm SHK 6mm DIA Number of Items: 1
Did some test slot cuts in mild steel and aluminum at standard rpms. About .030 in steel, 'bout .053 in aluminum. This end mill performed well - did what it was supposed to. Used in softer materials at proper rpm I think this girl will last a while. I'm knocking 1 star off because in the banner Sharpro states, "Ideal for Alloy Steel." If you're in the mood to flush the 13 bucks you'll spend on this end mill - I think you'll get there pretty quick if you start trying to cut alloy steel with this. Down below they tell you – you can use it for hardened steel HRC 40 – 45. Alloy steels start in that neighborhood and get a lot harder. “Ideal for Alloy Steel?” I think I'll call that deceptive marketting. 4 Stars ... show more

  • So good so far.
Size: 4mm SHK 3mm DIA Number of Items: 1
So I've been going through a number of these various end mills for testing and review and so far this little guy has been doing well. I mill copper and aluminum, and it seems to handle both well. I've noticed that the aluminum can be sticky, but the copper seems to do fine. I usually use milling bits that are "bright" (uncoated) for aluminum, but I was curious, and that choice has been verified. That said, this coating is pretty wear resistant. I want to try milling a bunch of wood and see how it does there. ... show more

  • Nice carbide cutter
Size: 6mm SHK 6mm DIA Number of Items: 1
The end mill came nicely packaged and visibly has a very nice finish and sharpness. I tried it out on some 6061 aluminum and 304 stainless steel and it made nice clean cuts. I'm just using a hobby "drill mill" so I can't really do a fair evaluation of the finish quality. This is a nice tool that will let me work with some tougher materials. ... show more
