  • Great customer support after a defect in the first batch
Update after one year: After originally purchasing these, I had found I had an issue with the bits. HQMaster immediately replaced them, and I’ve now run them almost a year and have only had one break, and that was due to a programming fault that rammed the bit into the deck of the CnC machine. Really impressive considered I use the primarily for cutting billet aluminum Update after 2 weeks of purchase HQMaster sent me a new batch of bits, and there is improvement. I added pictures, and one shows 2 of the new batch at different rotations compared to 2 of the original batch. There seems to be a difference in thickness where the flute ends into the shaft. I don't have a micrometer to confirm this, but with the new batch I was able to load up a bit and run a cut of a 30mm circle into 3/8" aluminum. With the original set I could get one of the bits to break after going maybe only 2-4mm deep into the material. The new bit had no issues. Inspecting it afterwards compared to another of the new batch, you can see a little smoothing at the end of the 'ball'-ish area, but nothing snapped or broke. 2nd update: I've now run more than two weeks with this new set of bits and have yet to have one break. HQMaster did me right on this one. Review updated to 5 stars Original Review: The flute on these bits comes up and leaves a large flat area on the shaft, that is narrower than the cutting portion of the bit even. This leaves this area weak and makes the bit very prone to breaking. I broke 4 in my first week. After the first I thought I must have the feed rate wrong on my carve, so I slowed it down - and then proceeded to have 3 more break with no more than an hour’s carve time on any of them. I kept those pieces and saw they all broke in the exact same spot. This manufacturer needs to redesign the geometry of the end of the flute, or this product should just be avoided. ... show more

  • Worked well on Aluminum
The end looks more like a V-bit than a ball-nose, and I measured the cutting diameter (CED) at 2.2 mm. Making through cuts, I was able to achieve accuracy of 0.1 mm with these measurements. Ran the first bit for more than 5 hours on aluminum 6061 alloy, and it still looked usable (but I switched to another bit from the set as I started a new longer job). Also worked well on birch plywood and ABS. So far so good and I will report back with any new observations. ... show more

  • Cutting Cleanly
You get what pay for. They are not as accurate as I would like to make a good-looking cut. For roughing they were OK, but not great. They are a total steel bit and not carbide. Again, you get what you pay for. I expected them to be a little better bit than they are. If you are just starting out then they are a good bit to start with. ... show more

  • Good Value
For the money these hold up pretty good. I have been using them since last spring on hardwood of various types and they seem to do fine. I change them out after a few carvings. On my second box. I ordered some expensive UK bits this past summer and blew though all three of them in three weeks - very fragile. ... show more

  • Works well. But has pointy tip.
I should have looked at the picture more carefully. Went by just description mostly. It is pointy tip. Not sure why they call it ball nose. I used it for some relief carving. Had to get the cuts really close to each other (10% step over) which took forever to finish my project.

  • Short but mighty
Drywaller by trade, so i was looking for a bit that was more oriented for Demo since I was dealing with Mudded and painted walls and this thing did the Job just fine. I was using Roto zip bits and they literally went from cutting the board to melting so these didn’t have that issue. Only quarrel is they are shorties. ... show more

  • Junk! Do not buy!
Absolute Junk! Not even close to a ball mill. Looks more like a drill, with the corners slightly rounded.

  • Great for CNC with Wood
I used these bits for the finish pass on the eagle head I carved (pictured). I was taking off .045 inches on the final pass and it worked great. This was done on pine. I haven't experimented with harder wood yet. These are fantastic little bits!
