  • Fast & Fun, Difficult To Control
While I have flown many drones and a couple RC helicopters before, this RC airplane still gave me some trouble. Admittedly, this was my first experience flying one. Whether it was from a flat surface or a throw, getting it into the air wasn't too difficult. However, when it came to actually keeping it there, it was very tricky and I crashed many times. Thankfully, this airplane held up quite well. Hopefully, I'll be able to develop my skills with it over time. If you've never flown an RC airplane before, this Sharper Image Airbolt Racer is a great way to try it out. ... show more

  • Really tough to fly
Our daughter and I have been using R/C cars and having a lot of fun with them. I picked up this R/C airplane to see if we could expand our activities. To be fair, piloting a flying product is significantly more challenging than a car. We both use a drone comfortably for reference. This is hard to fly. Not just difficult but it rarely maintains flight. You can usually get it off the ground but because it is so light and the control mechanisms are so primitive, it almost always goes into some sort of angled dive within seconds. If you are looking for something to get off the ground and have even a sustained flight of 10 seconds or more, this is probably not going to work for you. Even in a light breeze it is almost impossible to control. It was a fun idea but not a practical product for us. ... show more

  • Easy Takeoff, High Performance, Only 5 minutes Flight time
The media could not be loaded. I picked this for my son because I knew that he would have a blast with it on our property. Since we have land he will be able to fly it around on non-windy days and have fun with it. I really like how durable the plane is as we have crashed it tons of times into various things and it still works 100%. Most of the plane is foam or soft plastic so it doesn't really break. The plane flies fast and can be a bit tough to control but not so tough that a kid can't do it. After about 10 tries my 7 year old got it down pat. The only real downside that I see to this plane is that it only actually flies for 5 minutes. However because we cannot keep it in the air that long just due to how fast it flies; we can usually get about 20-30 minutes of fun out of it before it has to be charged for around 45-50 minutes. Overall we really like it, will report back if we break it because we have had tons of fun with it thus far and haven't broken it. I attached a couple videos from today of us flying it real quickly because I realized we had never taken any videos or pictures of it up until now. ... show more

  • Not good for windy days
The media could not be loaded. Getting this setup to fly is very simple, but I would wait to even try this until you have a zero wind day. We only had 7mph winds, and it was causing too much resistance and making it crash shortly after taking off the first time we tried this. The second time, 5mph winds, and got a better take off, and a bit more flight. So I know when we get a day without wind, this will definitely get some flight time. The material this is definitely in ways makes it more durable, it just limits the flight days to perfect weather. It just really cannot withstand any wind resistance without crashing. Other than that, it is very fun to play with, and pretty durable considering it's been crashed too many times to count and nothing has broken. I will update my review if we get to summer, and with more flight time, it either fails to meet 4 star quality, or it surpasses it and deserves a 5. ... show more

  • Kamikaze
I was couldn't get it to fly. The way you turn is by easing off one side of the propeller and you go up either by giving it gas and so it doesn't just make a flip you let off. I was unable to get the hang on it. I just kept crashing. However the rc seemed to take very little damage and I crashed it hard and many times. Impressive so if your more skilled with flying rc then you'll enjoy it ... show more

  • Decent Entry Level Airplane - A Bit Overpriced Though
There's a lot to like about this entry-level RC airplane. First, it looks awesome. It's got a great cosmetic and the size is perfect for starting out. Generally, the smaller they are, the more they'll be able to endure *minor crashes (because there's just less mass and weight involved). Once you get into medium and large sized RC aircraft, the cost and damage of crashes starts to increase considerably. If you're concerned about crashes and are committed to learning to fly RC planes, I'd suggest supplementing your experience with some decent simulator software. There's several options around where you can connect an RC transmitter to a PC and virtually fly all manner of RC aircraft (quadcopters, helis, and planes). You can crash as much as you like while getting the feel for takeoffs and landings especially. As far as this airplane goes, it's pretty average for the entry level, but I'd probably recommend purchasing a hobby store brand instead since you absolutely WILL need more replacement parts than they include in the package. Also, the lack of extra batteries means that your flight times are going to be very short. Hence, you won't really get to practice much before having to come inside. It is fun, but maybe wait until it goes on sale or until they include more spare parts and batteries. ... show more
