We put our old refrigerator in the basement and wanted to be able to make extra ice when needed. I had a 1/2" water line right above that was capped and was able to cut the end and pop on the sharkbite fitting. NO problems, but I was careful... A straight cut, not angled... no burrs on the end of the pipe, I smoothed them off... and made sure the fitting had fully bottomed out. Definitely recommend but proper installation is critical. ... show more

It never fails, you need to turn off the water to a sink but the water valve under the sink doesn’t completely close because of hard water deposits. So you end up having to go downstairs to shut off water at the main valve. While most homes will have the standard water valves with compression fittings, I find that I always have a bit of water leaking from them until I really tighten them down. Then have issues trying to remove the old compression ring from the copper line. SharkBite valves are super easy to use, just make sure you clean the end of your copper pipe with a bit of sandpaper and then wipe it off with a rag to ensure a good fitting. They just push on and then are easily removed with the supplied “C” shaped piece that you put around the pipe and push up against the SharkBite fitting. Found it was a better deal to purchase them here on Amazon vs my local box store and have spares for the next time I need them. ... show more

    • Shark bite water supply valves

These fitting work great! Luckily my house was plumbed with copper pipe. Unfortunately compression fittings were all the plumbers had to use. Compression fittings don’t slide off, I used a dremel tool to carefully cut through the compression ring. In order to do that I had to cut off the rear or back threaded fitting. Took a while, but once the old stuff was removed, I sanded and debarred the pipe. Sliding the Shark fitting on was so easy. I ordered extra Shark fittings because my local hardware store ran out and I plan on replacing more water supply valves as I remodel. ... show more
