  • Good replacement solution
The bypass valve was easy to install. Seems like it is a good fix and fit to solve to original part defect.

  • Fixed my leak💦
My North Star softener developed a leak at the exit side by-pass coupling. Figured I’d replace the O-ring and all would be good. Nope. Not sure how or what whatever happens to the rigid plastic that causes the valve to loose its seal, but replacing stopped the leak. Next time I’ll go straight to replacing the by-pass as it comes with the o-rings (but not the little black retaining clips). This valve is an exact replacement. It shipped quickly and was well packaged. It’s an easy DIY install. Like most everything today, it seems a bit pricy for what you get but it’s obviously much less expensive than contracting a plumber for repair. If you purchase/replace, do yourself a favor and check the little impeller gizmo tucked inside the exit tube, chances are it has become brittle/is falling apart. Mine was six years old and though it was apparently working, I’m glad I checked while I was in there. It absolutely needed to be replaced. I’d not do one and not the other…https://a.co/d/0izRBwna ... show more

  • Perfect for Kenmore Model 625.383500
Sears parts wanted to send me the OEM water bypass assembly for my Kenmore model, but it didn’t have threads and would not work with my unit. Even threaded adaptors for the OEM would not match up to what I had and my current plumbing. This was a perfect fit. Don’t forget to order some 1” C-clamps to connect to your unit; mine broke when removing the old clips, but I had ordered the clips with my assembly, so all was good. I saved lots of money and bought more time with my water softener. ... show more

  • 20th Century Engineering in the 21st Century World
I ordered this for a replacement for the bypass valve on a new Whirlpool 44,000 grain water softener that I installed. My inlet/outlet plumbing was 3/4". The inlet and outlets on the plactic bypass valve body are 1" threaded plastic and it's not thick. I needed to install two 1" to 3/4" inch reducers. Picked them up at the local plumbing supply store and they were heavy brass metal. Thread were the same but deeper. I slightly stripped one side of the valve. Readjusted and got it on. Next morning a drip. I couldn't let that go so I ordored this one and braided lines to fit it, installed and no more leaks. The threads on the bypass valve are not exactly deep. I should have used heavier PVC plastic reducers with matching threads the first time. Better yet get braided hoses but they are are hard to find anymore. 1" x 3/4" Flex stainless steel was the choice but could put pressure on the o-rings in the head. But got them on with much twisting to keep the valve body level and no leaks. This bypass valve setup setup has been around since at least 1987. It is quite dated back when plumbing was an exact science. This includes Rheem, Kenmore, Whirpool, etc. The plumbing world is now make it fit compression fittings, shark connectors, etc. So lines may not be exactly stress free going into this style valve. The bypass valve body sorely needs to be re-engineered from the 20th Century to the 21st Century. ... show more
