  • Awesome Microphone
Style: E 835-S
Best microphone I have ever owned. It picks up my soft voice perfectly while I record my vocals. I recommend this microphone 100%.

  • The mic is great, the box it comes in is the problem
Style: E 835-S
The microphone sounds great, and for a reasonable price. I got the version with the on/off switch which is nice to have. The problem is when they shipped it, they just put the mailing sticker on the microphone box. This is a common practice and I have no problem with it, the problem comes in that there was no sticker/tape over the tab where you open the box up. It's just one pull tab and its fully open, and it wasnt even that tight. So anywhere along the shipping route someone could have so easily opened the box, pulled out the stuff, and closed it without it looking any different. Luckily mine was perfectly fine, but it is probably not a good idea to keep shipping it like that, or someone is going to be out 100 bucks because amazon didn't put a piece of tape over the open tab. ... show more

  • Must have for screaming
Style: E 835-S
I've been doing screamed vocals in bands for a long time. If you're like me, you hate the muffled sound of an SM58. I get a lot more mid and high frequency out of this mic and it makes my vocals sound way more aggressive without sounding cheap. Don't leave home without it!

  • Really like it
Style: E 835-S
I was wanting to love this, but after a month or so with it, I think I'm going to have to fall solidly in the 4 star (like) category (I'd even go 4.5 stars if that was an option). It is a huge upgrade from the cheap Samson mics it replaced, but for live performance, I think I still prefer a SM58 (possibly just because it's a more familiar sound to my ears). However, if you are recording your live performances, I think this is definitely a better mic than a SM58 - it is crisper and more articulate than, and has more high end responsiveness and colors the midrange less than a 58, all of which make for cleaner/clearer vocals on recordings (though for serious recording with a dynamic mic, I suggest you look at mic's up around $200 instead of anything in the $100 mic class, but if your choices are Sm58 and 835 - the 835 is better in my opinion). So there you have it, I like the SM58 better for live performance, and I like this 835 better for recording purposes (and to be fair, I still really like the 835 live, I just happen to like the 58 a touch better). ... show more

  • Surprisingly good
Style: E 835-S
I've always been a Shure SM-58 user - never thought I had any reason to change. My younger brother, the professional musician in the family, uses this mic and was always trying to get me to use one. Two months ago I finally caved to the pressure and purchased one. I took it to my next gig and A-B'ed during the evening. I asked the folks in the audience which one they preferred to hear me through and this one won hands down. Let me make this clear: I'm the amateur in the family, I have what I call a "barroom baritone" of a voice, and I play for fun at the local coffee houses and open mics. No one would ever mistake me for a pro. This is a hot mic - I had to turn my preamp down and readjust the EQ slightly but everyone agreed, I sounded clearer and "better." So there you have it, folks, straight from the ten or twelve people in the audience. How can they be wrong? Bonus - same prices as a 58. ... show more
