Description

The MKE 600 is the ideal video camera/camcorder microphone able to handle even demanding filmic challenges. Due to its high directivity, the MKE 600 picks up sounds coming from the direction in which the camera is pointing and effectively attenuates noise coming from the sides and rear. The switchable “Low Cut” filter additionally minimizes wind noise. Because some video cameras/camcorders do not provide phantom power, the MKE 600 can also be battery powered. A battery on/off switch prevents the battery from discharging prematurely; “Low Batt” is displayed.

  • Stellar audio with some caveats.
Style: MKE 200
I really wanted to get the MKE 400, but I didn't have the budget for it but still wanted to get a Sennheiser mic so I went with the MKE 200. The build and design is awesome, I get clear and detailed audio on my Lumix S1, which is my main camera, but for some reason, it doesn't work with my Olympus E-M1 mkIII. No audio at all, with either cables. My camera's mic input works as I tried connecting it with a TRS cable to my desktop and record audio from that. I'm not sure if they have a list of cameras that are not supported, but wish I have known. I still want the MKE 400 but don't know if that will work either... ... show more

  • Great sounding microphone... except for the buzzing!
Style: MKE 600
I'm a voice actor who works out of a home studio, and unfortunately I have a neighbor who's obsessed with her leaf blower, blowing her front yard multiple days a week for several hours at a time, and I can still hear it even in my sound treated studio. I bought the Sennheiser MKE 600 shotgun microphone after doing a lot of research about microphones with noise cancelling qualities versus affordability. It seemed to be the best of both worlds. It arrived well packaged, and everything seemed to be in order when I plugged it in for a sound check, but I noticed there was an absolutely awful buzzing sound when I put my cans on. I checked the connections, I checked the interface, I even switched interfaces, and still the buzzing sound persisted. I knew it wasn't the cable itself, because my other microphone, an Audio Technica condenser mic, works perfectly fine on it. I searched YouTube for a solution to the buzzing, and I found a video that explained it might be a tiny screw in the chassis that supports the grounding of the mic, and it might need to be tightened to get rid of the buzzing sound. Alright, that's fine, I don't mind doing that. I unscrewed the chassis... and the screw was missing. Not even rattling around or popped out or anything... just plain gone. I expect a much, much higher quality control out of Sennheiser than this. I will be fair though, through the buzzing sound I did a sound check anyway, and the microphone sounds absolutely amazing, and is exactly what I've been looking for as a female voice actor, since most mic review videos are done by male voice actors and don't really apply to me. Essentially, this mic is fantastic for the price, but I will be returning this one and buying another of the same model, and this time there better be a screw in there! ... show more

  • Awesome microphone, too bad camera preamps kind of suck
Style: MKE 600
This is a great sounding microphone when used outdoors or in a sound treated room that doesn't have reverb, these types of microphones can cause some phasing issues when recording in a room with reverb as the interference tubes on the side if they're getting the same thing going into the front and your reverb is echoing the same voice back into the sides things can get a little wonky sometimes but that's with all shotgun microphones, a lot of people will use the small diaphragm condensers which are basically a shotgun without the interference tubes for indoors I would say the sound quality is top-notch, and you compare it to the Sennheiser 416 it is almost on par and this one is able to be hooked to a camera and powered with a battery or you can hook it to your audio interface or your digital recorder but unfortunately cameras tend to have really crappy preammps, hooked to a little zoom or tascam digital recorder or to an audio interface in the studio setting or something similar this thing sounds great but hooked to a camera it just sounds kind of so so because unfortunately I think cameras just have lousy preamps but you know it's cool that this microphone has the option to hook it directly to a camera if you need to, it doesn't sound horrible hook to a camera but I would say it sounds about 75% better when hooked something with good preamps but overall the microphone itself is top-notch ... show more

  • Impractical for vertical shots
Style: MKE 200 + Mobile Kit
Sound quality is decent; marginally better than the built-in mic in my iPhone 11. Tripod mount will not allow you to connect the microphone to the bottom of your phone without it being jammed into the extremely poor design of the tripod mount. I do not like using this for vertical video shots because wedging the connecting cable into the phone that way makes me concerned about warping the jack and rendering it useless on the phone. Terrible design flaw. What were you thinking??? ... show more

  • A very handy item!
Style: MKE 200 + Mobile Kit
First of all, it’s a well made piece of equipment. The microphone is very good, and the cover that comes with it helps to reduce ambient noise. The stand can be set up on a table, but the legs can be folded into a handle so it can be handheld. The camera holder can be swiveled so your phone can be put in portrait or landscape orientation. It folds up and will fit into a bag or briefcase so you can take it wherever you go. ... show more
