  • The best motorcycle helmet I have ever owned. The best motorcycle helmet I have ever owned.
Color: Matte Black Size: Large
This is my fifth Sena product. I also own a Sena Phantom XB helmet and two Sena 60S communication systems, so I've learned that when you see the Sena name on a product, you can expect top-tier quality. This helmet absolutely lives up to that expectation. The first thing you'll notice is how good it looks. Once you get it paired through the Sena app, you'll discover features like the programmable rear lighting, which adds another level of visibility and customization. Then you put it on, and that's when the quality really stands out. If you choose the correct size, the fit is fantastic. There is no excessive cheek pressure or claustrophobic feeling. It's simply one of the most comfortable helmets I've ever worn. The Harman Kardon speakers are equally impressive. The sound quality is outstanding and makes listening to music an immersive experience instead of just background noise. What surprised me the most, though, was the road noise. I ride nearly every day and this is the quietest helmet I have ever owned. Sena has done something special with the design around the ear area because wind and road noise are dramatically reduced compared to other helmets I've used. I've had this helmet for over a month now, and every single ride reminds me why I ordered it. The modular design is incredibly convenient, the ratcheting chin strap is easy to use, and being able to quickly flip up the front for a drink at a stop or while riding is a feature I use all the time. I simply love this helmet. If you're looking for a high-quality modular helmet with built-in communications, excellent sound, outstanding comfort, and impressively low road noise, this one deserves a serious look. Five stars doesn't feel like enough. If there were ten stars available, I'd happily give it eleven. ... show more

  • The most feature-laden helmet that I've ever had - and good quality! The most feature-laden helmet that I've ever had - and good quality!
This is the most feature-laden helmet that I've ever had, period! Light weight, Kevlar shall, comfortable padding, modular, flipping tinted internal visor, LED rear lights (on/off selectable) and, of course, Bluetooth phone connection and mesh intercom. The sound clarity for the rider and the listener is amazing, with full spectrum built-in speakers and an excellent microphone (with a windsock, if you want). The joystick and two small buttons on the side take some time to get used to, so I have been using it primarily to receive calls and not for podcast browsing while riding (I want to be around to write the next review...) I have a wide head and a thick neck (XL) and my only complaint is that the lower part is a bit too tight for me, but I've been wearing it only a week and it may spread a bit. When not using the audio, the wind noise is reasonably low, but a bit more than a Shoei (for a comparison in a similar price range). So far, I have tested only the phone function, not the mesh communications (don't have a talk partner), but certainly expect the sound quality to be just as good. Overall, a comfortable feature-laden helmet that will take some practice to get used to operating all those features. ... show more

  • EXPENSIVE helmet. Great build and audio quality, but where is the ECE rating? EXPENSIVE helmet. Great build and audio quality, but where is the ECE rating?
This is going to be a long review so let me sum up the main points first and foremost. Pros: -Great material quality for a modular helmet. -5 year warranty, and in my experience Sena support is awesome. -Pretty impressive audio quality for a helmet. Has a fairly neutral tune. -Nice controls with an up/down joystick for volume. -Sizing is very consistent with other helmets I've worn, fit exactly how I expected. -Good airflow. -Convenient placement for sun visor lever, better than the Phantom anyways. -Lighter than I expected for a modular with a bluetooth system and integrated sun visor. -Modular design and foam placement makes it very easy to wear glasses, even large ones. Neutral: -Toggleable accelerometer-activated brake light. -Button for lifting face plate is central and very easy to release, which is convenient but concerns me slightly. Cons: -Ratcheting pull-release chin strap instead of double D-rings. Fancy, but IMO it's a safety issue. -ECE R22.06 claimed on website but not printed on helmet? Why? -Quality product but still pretty expensive. --Solid helmet material but still has blatant weaknesses that come with modulars: -Shell is flexible around latch pins, very apparent even when closed. -Padding fitment around you head doesn't feel quite as secure as full-faced. -Noisier ride overall. If you want to know more and are ready for a wall of text, the rest of this review is for you. This is my second helmet from Sena, and I am, just like with the other helmet, mildly but pleasantly surprised. Before I talk about this particular helmet, there's a common sentiment you see when looking at reviews and discussion regarding Sena's selection of lids which I'd like to talk about briefly, and that is something along the lines of "Don't buy a helmet from a comms manufacturer". There are multiple reasons for this thinking and I only mostly disagree. Your selection of different visors, colors, maybe even replacement parts isn't as large as with more common helmets, and you're at the mercy of Sena for those things. You might also worry that they wouldn't have adequate pedigree to place your faith in them for a safety device that you need to trust to keep your brain box in tact, but at this point they have a pretty decent selection of different helmets to choose from with apparently pretty happy customers. Which is why the bottom line of my review is this: If this helmet has the features you want, if you're willing to buy a more specialized helmet, and if you were planning on getting a comms system anyways, I think this is absolutely worth a shot. You just have to be aware that, compared to common "dumb" helmets, you're probably not going to have as much access to aftermarket parts or visors if you do so. And I feel like I have to mention that Sena's support isn't bad, quite the opposite in fact. My previous helmet from them had one of the buttons fail after a few months of daily use. After reaching out for a replacement part or a way to fix it, they replaced the entire lid in advance, even providing a return shipping label for the old one. They were quick, helpful, and willing to make it right. So all that being said, what do you get when a comm's manufacturer makes a flip-up modular helmet with a built in bluetooth audio and comms system? Well, for the price, a pretty decent experience. And I use the word "decent" because I have reservations about the safety level of these particular kinds of helmets, but that's just my personal feeling. I have to admit that the cost of this helmet is steep, but if you look at the cost of decent lids on their own and pair it with the cost of a standalone Sena comms system, you arrive somewhere in the same neighborhood. I would personally argue that it should be cheaper since they're coming from the same place so the design and manufacturing should have some cost saving overlaps, but that's just me. If you're looking for harsh criticisms, my biggest complaint out of everything is the printing on the back. More specifically, a lack of a presented ECE rating, at least on mine. This was also a problem with their Phantom XB helmet, and maybe even the others, where you may find that the Sena store page says it passes certain ECE ratings and that it's actually super safe, but other pages like on Amazon or other retailers that you would trust specifically for motorcycle gear only lists DOT or nothing at all. In my opinion, this is a spec that should be CLEARLY AND CONFIDENTLY labeled on all their store page, and with as much reputation as Sena has and as much as those things may be out of their hands, I straight up can not fully trust it since it may be on their website but I can't tell if it's a blanket, copy+pasted spec from their other helmets or just their own baseless claim when other retails don't have this information and there isn't any definitive, concrete documentation that can be easily found. If you go through the process of getting your helmet certified, OWN it and stand by it. It's the most important part of the helmet, and if it takes waiting for that cert to make sure you can PHYSICALLY put it on your helmet, wait, because it's hard to endorse it when it seems like the only thing you can confidently display is the bare-minimum DOT certification on the back. This NEEDS to be a more clearly stated specification for everyone, not just those in the EU market, not just on your website, but on the helmet. I've had great experiences with Sena so far, but I would have this complaint about any helmet or manufacturer that didn't do this. That out of the way, aside from the basic helmet features, the audio system is pretty impressive. The speakers have a refreshingly neutral tune with pretty good definition so there's plenty of room for tuning it to your tastes if you're someone who prefers heavy bass. The noise floor is a noticeably high if you're sat in a dead-quiet room, but when your bike is running and especially when you're on the road, you won't notice it. These speakers can go up very loud, so if you're like me and you want to be able to hear other people talking to you at a normal volume 5 years from now, you can wear ear plugs to save your hearing from the wind buffering off and around your dome (which is especially loud given the modular design) and still hear your music and comms. Speaking of, I don't have much to say about the comms since I don't really use them, but coming from Sena I would hope they would be good. Overall, the helmet looks great, feels quality, and having an audio system built in really saves you the trouble of having to add one later and possibly having to deal with the extra bulk required to make it fit. Again, it's an expensive helmet in my opinion, but if you're intended to spend the money on comms+audio anyways, it might just be the perfect choice for you. ... show more

  • This is my second SENA helmet.
Color: Matte Black Size: Large
Just for perspective, I have 15 years of experience in the powersports industry as a motorcycle mechanic and parts wholesale distributor. What that means is not only have I worn a lot of helmets, but I have also sold a lot of helmets. That was a long time ago, though, between 1990 and 2005. Now I’m retired and don’t ride as much as I used to or on what I used to. I tend to ride a lot of small and mini bikes now locally. I’ve been looking for a new helmet for a few years now, and aside from the ones I’ve purchased, I’ve had the opportunity to try several for review via this program. Including another model, the Sena Phantom XB, with which I have much more actual riding experience. As safety gear, which is what these are meant to be, I would say they are better than most I’ve tried recently, but still not what I hoped for at this price point. That’s my main concern when shopping for a helmet: protection. All of that expensive audio and coms is nice, but it doesn’t do anybody any good if you’re not conscious to call for help. Being older, some of this new technology eludes me, so I did some research, and as near as I can tell, these helmets have about 300 dollars in communications and audio equipment, so I look at the helmet for what it is and ask myself, is this a 300 helmet? And do I trust my head in it? Because that’s what really matters. To me, this is not a 300 dollar helmet, and I’m not a fan of the magnetic latch. And to be fair, I’m comparing it to my other Sena helmet, the Phantom model. And it’s worth mentioning, I’ve never been a fan of modular helmets, and I’ve worn the best, BMW. For a modular, it is passable. There are things about modular helmets that are just inherent, like the noise. If you’re used to the Phantom, you will hear the difference. You will probably also feel the difference, especially at significant speeds. The interior isn’t as nice either, and this model uses a magnetic closure instead of the double D ring. I'm not a fan of those magnetic latches at all. I can’t tell for sure, but the shell feels different, cheaper. So does the interior. In my opinion, it’s not as good a helmet as their Phantom model ... show more

  • Premium Modular Smart Motorcycle Helmet with Advanced Communication & Audio
Color: Matte Black Size: XX-Large
The Sena Specter Modular Smart Communication Helmet is an excellent high-end option for riders who want safety, comfort, and advanced tech all in one. The modular flip-up design adds convenience, making it easy to switch between full-face protection and open-face practicality when stopped or communicating. One of the standout features is the built-in Mesh Intercom system, which allows seamless communication with other riders. It’s especially useful for group rides, offering stable, long-range connectivity compared to traditional Bluetooth systems. The 2nd Gen sound by Harman Kardon delivers impressive audio quality, with clear mids, strong bass, and reduced distortion even at highway speeds. This makes music, GPS directions, and calls much easier to hear on the road. Safety is also a strong point, with a DuPont Kevlar shell construction that provides excellent durability and impact resistance while keeping the helmet relatively lightweight for its class. Ventilation and comfort are well-designed, making it suitable for long rides. The interior padding feels premium and is comfortable even during extended use, which is important for touring and daily riding. Overall, this helmet delivers outstanding safety, top-tier audio quality, and advanced communication features. The Specter is an impressive helmet that combines comfort, safety, and technology in one package. The modular design is convenient for everyday riding, and the helmet feels solid and well-built thanks to the Kevlar shell construction. The integrated Mesh intercom seems easy to use but I have yet to really ride with other riders where I got the opportunity to use it. The Harman Kardon audio delivers clear sound quality for music, navigation, and calls. The fit is comfortable for long rides, ventilation is effective, and the gloss white finish looks great. Overall, this is a premium helmet with excellent features that make every ride more enjoyable. ... show more
